Chapter 611: Chapter 129 - A Few Drops of Blood and Tears of a Fallen Nation, A Loyal Minister’s Heart Split by the Bright Moon_5
Liu Zhenhan was fond of this Tauren elder’s name. As a child, he enjoyed drinking saccharine water, but it was a luxury. Thus, he always held a sentimental attachment towards saccharine. This name made him feel a long-lost warmth.
A dozen Antelope Men moved several stone stools and accommodated all distinguished guests. The sound of women and children could be heard from behind the tent, along with the aroma of food wafting through the air.
"May I inquire, sir, the reason behind your visit to the underground this time?" Elder Tang Jin exchanged a few polite words with Liu Zhenhan before getting straight to the point.
"This time, I am here to lead all of the Taurens and Harpies out of the underground and back to our homeland," Liu Zhenhan said, pulling out a homemade cigar and popping it into his mouth.
Upon hearing this, Tauren Elder Tang Jin merely smiled faintly and nodded slightly.
"Don’t you want this?" Liu Zhenhan, originally intent on lighting the cigar, stopped mid-action with the match held in his hand, noticing Tang Jin’s reaction.
"It’s not that we don’t want to. Would you mind if I explained to you how our ancestors came to live here ten generations ago?" The Tauren elder sighed softly.
"Go ahead." Liu Zhenhan took a puff of his cigar, his mind full of doubt.
"A thousand years ago, our Beamon suffered a devastating defeat in the Battle of Heigar. Only a small portion of the tribe retreated to the Donau Wasteland under the protection of the King. Most of our tribe was left without military protection and fell victim to a planned racial massacre perpetrated by the human army. We were sure we would not escape. The Kalimdo plains are vast, but we had nowhere to hide. All of our young and vigorous warriors had died in the final battle. We were forced into the underground tunnel, as we had no other choice left," Tauren Elder sagely wiped a tear from the corner of his eye.
Liu Zhenhan sighed, feeling a blockage in his chest. The little nun beside him was so upset her face turned red, unable to utter a single word.
"Weren’t you a Black Rhino tribe? How did you become Antelope Men?" Daisy interjected.
"Our chieftain at the time was a Rhino shaman. But our tribe was not composed mainly of Rhinos, but rather of Antelope Men and Sky Bull Men." The Tauren elder proudly replied, "Our chieftain then was the famous Rhino shaman, the ’Black Legend’ Sir Michael Tyson. Hence, our tribe was named the Black Rhino Tribe."
"I’ve heard of him," Liu Zhenhan nodded. The story of Sir Tyson’s legendary battles was depicted on the temple floor tiles. He had squatted on the ground to read his tale during his first rank promotion. The Black Legend, with his Komodo War Behemoth, died honorably during the Battle of Heigar.
However, there was a rumor that Sir Tyson was guilty of the heinous crime of the rape of a common woman. Of course, Liu Zhenhan wouldn’t foolishly ask the elder to confirm this.
"In those days, our entire tribe was composed of the elderly, women and children. We had no choice but to risk our lives and rush into the underground entrance out of desperation. A Goliath Harpy tribe joined us, along with others, in our escape underground. We really didn’t have a choice, we would have faced the massacre of human armies if we had not gone inside the cave. The racial cleansing that the older generation talks about sounds terrifying. We were the ones who charged headlong into the underground entrance of Azeroth." The Tauren elder said, "Actually, not just us, but a dozen tribes in total reached the underground entrance of Azeroth. However, only our Black Rhino Tribe and the Harpy Tribe dared to enter the underground entrance. The rest launched a suicidal counterattack towards the human armies... In the end, they all chose to die in the most glorious way, rather than entrust their lives to the unknown."
"And then what happened?"
"We were fortunate, the God of War had not abandoned us, the people he cast aside. That day, the underground Gang wind just happened to be in its annual cooldown period." The Tauren elder chuckled bitterly, "Even so, the intense vortex above the stone trench and the giant wolf spiders in the caves of Ladder Mountain still claimed half of our tribes’ populations on the way. If it weren’t for the fact that our antelope women and elderly were quite strong, perhaps we might not have even seen what volcanic ash under those mountains looks like."
"How large was your population at that time?" Liu Zhenhan asked. "Including the Harpies?"
"Our Black Rhino had a total of 5,788 Tauren, of which 2,136 were Antelope women and children. There were 3,512 Sky Bull Men, 140 Rhinos. You should know, the Buer tribe among us were either Sky Bulls or Snail people. They did not participate in the battle, so the Sky Bulls were unscathed. The Snow cotton flower Harpy tribe had 4,215 Harpies. Like our antelope magics, the tribe was only composed of the old, the weak, the women, and the children." The Tauren elder’s voice trembled, "Just after crossing a stone bridge and the Ladder Mountain, of the nearly ten thousand people in the two tribes, by the time we reached the underground, less than six thousand remained. There were less than one thousand of us Antelope men left, most of whom were children."
"Fate is really cruel," Liu Zhenhan was speechless. Even if they could only fly short distances, the Bull men were also forced by humans into a situation where there was no way out. The human army from the Heigar era was really fierce.
