Chapter 612: Chapter 129 - A Few Drops of Blood and Tears of a Fallen Nation, A Loyal Minister’s Heart Split by the Bright Moon_6

"When we arrived in the Underground World, we had no food, no drink. The only thing we Tauren hadn’t given up were the clothes on our back, and the infants in our swaddling clothes. The only thing the Harpy hadn’t given up were their eggs." The Tauren elder said passionately, pointing at the Subterranean Natives not too far away. "It was them, these kind-hearted "Stonejaw" Cave Dwellers who helped us, supported us through our trials and hard times, saw us through the worst of hunger and suffering, raised our children, and rejuvenated us."

"What’s this about the Eagle-Bull people? As soon as I arrived, I saw them viciously attacking these Cave Dwellers." Liu Zhenhan asked sternly, "You, as an elder, couldn’t you restrain their actions? Did you completely forget the history of gratitude?"

The Tauren elder suddenly fell down to Liu Zhenhan’s feet, weeping pathetically.

"What’s the matter?" Liu Zhenhan helped the Tauren elder up.

"It’s shameful!" The Tauren elder sobbed. "A thousand years ago, humans already occupied the Kalimdo Plains. Being forgotten, we Beamon abandoners dared not leave the Underground World anymore. We constantly fought with Magical Beasts, volcanoes, molten streams, and bandits, struggling to preserve our civilization and population. We planned to do the same in the future, but terrible things happened among the Harpy."

"What happened?" Gortani asked, gasping for breath.

"In the Harpy eggs that were protected through so much hardship and suffering, the majority hatched into the offspring of a different Bird Clan," the Tauren elder said painfully.

"How could this happen?" Liu Zhenhan’s scalp tingled.

"Only one race among the Beamon Birdman of the Bode Clan could do this!" Gortani said, trembling violently: "Was it the Cuckoos of the Buer Tribe?"

The Tauren elder nodded.

"The Cuckoos of the Buer Tribe are infamous scoundrels among us Beamon of the Bode Clan. Their behavior is as wild and unrestrained as the sea. Cuckoos are born thieves and bandits. They like to steal other’s eggs, and secretly replace them with their own in the nests of other Bird Clans’ Beamon. There was a nasty incident in history where Medusa incubated her own egg, only for a Cuckoo to hatch out." Helen quietly explained this secret to Ning Yu and a nun who was full of curiosity.

"What about the vigilance of the Harpy? They didn’t realize their eggs were switched?" Liu Zhenhan asked the Tauren elder.

"All the Harpy eggs were concentrated on a large cart at that time. Before entering the underground entrance, dozens of Beamon tribes were mixed up together. It was too chaotic, resulting in this oversight. There was indeed a Buer Tribe close to the Harpy tribe at that time," the Tauren elder said bitterly. "But what’s done is done, regret is of no use. The Harpy could only do their best to raise these Cuckoo descendants. They couldn’t kill all these children, right? That was what they thought at the time, but they didn’t realize it was a huge mistake. Once a mistake is made, it goes downhill from there."

The Beamon let out a wave of long sighs. Encountering this kind of thing was beyond just being unfortunate.

"It was no better for us Tauren. The Beetle-Bull people are notoriously narrow-minded. Because of their small stature and not having to go to the battlefield, their young and strong were intact. They might have been afraid that we would drag them down, so they moved to the second layer of the Underground World first," the Tauren elder explained. "Actually, the Underground World is not just this layer we are currently in. There is another underground world about the same size as this one more than two thousand meters below through the subterranean stairwell."

"You mentioned the stairwell, were you referring to the underground staircase that would occasionally spew fire that I saw? I saw many on my way here. It also seemed like your homes were also located down one of these stairwells. Am I right?" Liu Zhenhan asked.

"Yes, but even though there are many stairwells in our world, they’re not all passages to the second layer of the Underground World. Some of the stairwells lead to underground lava rivers, others to Magical Beast lairs, and others into labyrinth-like underground caves. Like our current tribe’s location on this small underground plain, even though there are quite a few stairwells, not many have a water source. And the stairwell that leads to the second layer of the Underground World, there are only twenty-seven of them in the whole Furious Flame Continent. Actually, there aren’t just two layers of the Underground World, the stairwells on the second-layer plain go down another two or three thousand meters. There’s an underground plain down there that’s about the same size as the first and second layer, roughly around thirty to forty thousand square kilometers."

"Is there a fourth layer?" Helen asked curiously.

"Only three layers are known. Whether there is a fourth, nobody knows, maybe it hasn’t been discovered, maybe it doesn’t exist," the Tauren elder patiently explained. "We commonly refer to the underground world in which we reside as the ’Furious Flame Continent’, the second layer is referred to as the ’Black Domain Continent’, and the third layer as the ’Poso Continent’. The rulers of the Black Domain Continent on the second layer are the Dark Elves and the Blood Elves. These two elf races are mortal enemies, each constantly aiming to gobble up the other. Under the command of the Dark Elves are the River Immortals, and under the Blood Elves are the Gray Dwarves. The Dark Elves can summon the Hell Black Dragon from the third layer of the Underground World, the Poso Continent, for assistance in battle. The Blood Elves have allied with the super class powerhouse, the Evil-eye Tyrant, on the second layer. Both sides are evenly matched. The Beetle-Bull people moved to the second layer, and shortly after they allied with the Blood Elves. Then, the gradually growing Cuckoo descendants also moved to the Black Domain Continent and allied with the Dark Elves."
