Chapter 606: Chapter 128: Mysterious Love in the Blood Case_4

The conclusion made Liu Zhenhan dizzy. As for the glowing crows, the fairy dragon couldn’t provide any definitive answers. The young nun insisted that they were the Golden Crows that resided on Emperor Polo’s sun, as documented in the Vatican’s Bible. However, she could not find any explanation in the Bible as to how these Golden Crows ended up in the underworld.

This serious academic discussion was quickly put to an end.

As everyone gradually came closer to the short mountain, the air, saturated with the smell of sulfur, was tinged with a heavy scent of blood from afar. This familiar smell immediately put the seasoned Fei Lengcui warriors on alert. Over the past few days, they had encountered no formidable magical beasts, but they regularly saw vague shadows leaping into the sky in the distance. These shadows would then descend slowly, a sight that was utterly eerie.

Upon getting closer, they found out that this land, which was illuminated by the "underground sun", had just witnessed a brutal massacre.

Around the short mountain was a fertile subterranean plain. In the distance, there were several mountains about ten meters high, riddled with caves. The plain contained more than a hundred acres of farmland, clearly manually cultivated. The farmland was evenly divided with clear boundaries marked by ridges. There were irrigation channels between farm rows leading to the river where a crude and ancient-looking water wheel stood. The crops in the field had suffered a severe plundering. About a dozen corpses lay in the fields, their blood tinging the babbling water in the irrigation channels into a bright red color.

Liu Zhenhan examined the bodies and there was no denying that these were members of some unknown underground wisdom race. They were very short, not more than a meter high. Their faces heavily lined, and a thick layer of hair covered their skin. They wore clothes made of small pieces of animal skin which embodied their intelligence and civilization.

Liu Zhenhan carefully inspected the wounds on their bodies. They appeared to have been caused by weapons such as spears. However, strangely, most of the wounds seemed to have been inflicted at a downward angle.

"These wounds appear to have been caused by thrown spears. A skilled spear thrower’s lance falls at an arc-shaped trajectory when it hits the ground. The spears or lances would have to be used in this way to penetrate their bodies and cause such wounds," remarked General Pan, who was skilled at throwing spears and thus knew about these types of wounds.

Liu Zhenhan flipped over the palm of a body, revealing thick calluses and cuts. He also pulled away the long hair on the jaw of the corpse, only to find that no signs of decomposition had begun yet.

O’Neal and the Hippo-chant poets returned after making a round in the caves of the small mountain. They were too bulky to fit into the caves. Eventually, Guoguo and the Musketeers entered and came out with a few ragged clothes, uncovering nothing else.

Daisy and Ruona picked up a piece of leftover crops from the field. Daisy held a thick moss, and Ruona had a small shrub bearing clusters of red fruit. These crops seemed robust but had also suffered harsh trampling.

"The footprints head in that direction." Rodman stood up from the ground and pointed towards the left of the winding river. "It seems someone else got to these poor folks before us, and not only robbed them but also abducted the remaining population. What’s strange is that all the footprints are small, with only a few slightly larger before vanishing."

"Let’s go after them." Helen immediately got on the carriage, "The sacrificial rites will not tolerate such atrocities occurring before our eyes."

"We cannot tolerate such bloody and evil acts! Let’s go after them and eliminate these terrible robbers!" The two Pier priests immediately agreed with Helen’s opinion.

"Killing such weak creatures and looting their crops, even for robbers, this is far too despicable." Liu Zhenhan stood up and cracked his knuckles, "You rob wealth, not lives. Even robbers should adhere to an ethical code! Let us show them the embodiment of righteousness, the nemesis of evil — the strength of the Beamon priests!"

"I don’t know if I should say it... physical eradication and conquest are not always the best methods to eliminate evil; bloodlust is a characteristic of demons." Nun Joan of Arc, in a persuasive manner, addressed Liu.

"I’ll take your advice." Liu Zhenhan stroked his silver arm, spat, wiped his sleeves vigorously, and looked up at the young nun, "If they indeed are robbers who kill and loot, I will choose to annihilate their souls."
