Chapter 365: Chapter 79: The Battle is as a Chess Game_1
The mercenaries who escaped death had retreated to the Heavy Scythe-wielders, their savage expressions returning. Who would have thought that, by accident, they would make it ashore.
Most of the mercenaries had lost their primary weapons and were now brandishing the daggers hidden in their boots.
The Heavy Scythe-wielders had also lost their three-layer iron tower shields, but the scythes were tethered to their iron armor by chains. Now, every large scythe was tightly clutched in the hands of these Pompeians.
"Three hundred men! We still have three hundred men!" cried a mercenary bearing the insignia of a squadron leader, his joy uncontainable.
Looking at their tiny opponents, which consisted only of goblins, hedgehogs, and skunks, and realizing that not a single beauty had escaped, the mercenaries felt that they had a reason to celebrate.
Under the leadership of the few surviving team and squad leaders, the mercenaries formed an intact "V" attack formation with the Heavy Scythe-wielders at the core, breaking into a rousing rendition of Dorott’s Song once again.
The singing stopped halfway as the mercenaries’ pride dissipated in an instant.
Ning Yu lifted the illusionary barrier and the amateur formation that the mercenaries mocked as testicles suddenly transformed into a deadly trap.
Interspersed within the formations of shields were twelve mammoth long-haired elephants, three giant earth badgers, and a giant cave bear that extended over a hundred yards. The terrifying giant beasts were all clad in golden battle armor. Sixteen Orephin warriors, stern and indifferent, sat atop these beasts, each holding a deadly giant machete that sparkled threateningly.
A banner fluttered in the wind. It depicted a pig’s skull encircled by a halo, with a dragon’s head at the bottom, two bloody crossed swords protruding from its mouth. Above it, two large characters were embroidered in the Mongolian language — "Fragrant Army".
Orephin Knights again! And heavily armored ones at that! Some of the mercenaries immediately twisted around and jumped back into the icy rushing Sanggan River.
A brilliant glow flashed by and a stunning woman, her mouth adorned by a charming beauty mark, magically appeared on the back of an iron cross beast, the beast’s flaming tail whipping around wildly as a dazzling silver Dou Qi erupted.
Some mercenaries fainted on the spot.
A hulking bear-man sprang from amidst the goblins clutching his nose. His towering frame overshadowed everything else, like a majestic mountain suddenly rising on flat ground. Following his appearance was a giant tree marmot clad in heavy armor, its terrifying tusks and twelve-inch claws made it even more formidable than the cave bear. It was as if it embodied brutality and savagery.
The bear-man mounted the giant tree marmot and immediately unsheathed a huge axe and a twin-shaped shield. A fiery red glow enveloped his muscular body, causing it to suddenly swell.
The Heavy Scythe-wielders felt their entire bodies break out in a cold sweat.
The insignia of Misha on the helmets of those two knights had already given away their identities. The only opponents for these Beamon warriors were the legendary human Holy Knights and the Death Knights of the Demon Clan.
If two Iron Knights or Thorn Knights appeared now, it would be enough to cause these largely unarmed mercenaries to collapse. However, here were two Silver Knights and a Bronze Knight! In Bimon Temple, across the Pan Continent, the Holy Temple Knights were renowned, with the lowest rank Thorn Knights numbering twenty, Iron Knights ten, Bronze Knights five, and at this top tier rank, Gold Knights and Silver Knights had only two times!
Was there a prince or princess of Beamon here? Or was it the Great Shaman Wei An? The formation of the mercenaries broke instantly, and like someone waking from a dream, the mercenaries were left with one thought - run.
The cavalry quickly divided their formation, began outflanking and charging from the flanks, swinging their long swords, their giant hooves stomping. The nightmare... was repeating itself.
The only way the dagger-wielding mercenaries could resist was to use their necks to fend off the cold long swords and horrendous heavy hooves. As for their daggers, they were probably not even adequate enough to shave the hairs off the mammoth long-haired elephants’ feet.
The hippopotamuses had also come ashore. They joined the siege of stray soldiers and warriors. Whether or not they had weapons, it hardly made a difference to their robust bodies.
Korina made a skillful swing of his blade, and along with the rest of the giant earth badgers and the cave bear formed a cavalry unit, coldly staring at the Heavy Scythe-wielders who hadn’t fled. He was expressing his admiration and respect to these courageous warriors who hadn’t run away following the old customs of the Beamon warriors.
In truth, Korina was overestimating the Heavy Scythe-wielders. It was not that they didn’t want to run. Facing a heavy cavalry unit surrounding them and two Holy Knights glaring at them from the side, what good would it do to run? It is better to stand firm. If they turned their backs, it would be as if they were handing themselves over to be trampled.
The Heavy Scythe-wielders’ eyes started to moisten.
The Earl on the riverbank was initially pleased to see a small troop make it ashore and the presence of the Heavy Scythe-wielders, but this joy was quickly crushed by a series of blows, leaving him incapacitated.
"Fire... fire... fire!" The Earl dismounted his warhorse, grabbed Master Otigha’s collar and started pushing him, shouting nonsensically: "Elephants are afraid of fire! Use magical flames against them! And the Holy Knights... oh... no need to be scared, the Holy Knights won’t attack first, you must strike before they do, quickly, hurriedly deal with them!"
