Chapter 184: Big Brother 2
Chapter 184: Big Brother 2
"So, speak. How did you cause this mess? Why didn’t you use protection? Are condoms that hard to come by? Ha ha ha. Cum. Buy. Ha ha..." Oliver joked, laughing out loud.
His shift in expression eased the atmosphere.
They didn’t feel as nervous as before.
But Arin was sweating bullets. [A/N: Autocorrect is f ing up a lot these days. And I seem to blind while I edit. Sorry. Fixed I. Or so I thought.]
"I thought you were a goody two-shoes with nothing going for you. It was shocking when I heard you impregnated some girl." Oliver muttered, scrutinising Arin’s expression.
Arin bit his lips.
"So, give me an explanation, big brother," Oliver asked again.
In that manner, Arin began to explain his side of the story.
Supposedly, Arin had a crush on a girl. She was kidnapped by a bad guy and was almost sold into prostitution.
Like usual, Arin took on the role of hero and, with the help of his newfound friends, Victor and Stephen, tried to rescue the girl.
In the middle of the fiasco, the girl and Arin were drugged and spent a night together.
It didn’t make much sense. But supposedly it happened.
’It’s a classic CEO sweetheart novel trope. But my brother is neither a CEO nor a rich man.’
It was an exciting story with action, romance, and thrilling details.
Oliver let them continue the story without interrupting them.
It has been only a month since Oliver went to train in Titanfall.
A lot seemed to have happened in this short time span.
Oliver looked at his brother, wondering how this kid ended up in this situation.
Oliver’s act of changing the future, saving Arin from death, seemed to have altered the course of history.
"In short, you are saying that the girl’s family is influential and wants to beat you up to vent anger." Oliver summarised.
"Who is this girl? From which family does she come? Why do they want you to die, even though they knew you saved her? Does the girl even like you?"
Oliver rapidly fired a cluster of questions.
Arin took a deep breath and continued to explain.
"Her name is Kim Jiah. I met her during the summer vacation. She was in the same entrance exam batch as me. We talked a few times. We kind of like each other. But because of our family difference, we didn’t date or anything..." As he spoke, Arin’s head drooped down further and further.
"...Her family is related to Nova Rift. From what I know, her father is a high-ranking member of Nova Rift. Recently, I heard they have a blood relation to the guild leader of Nova Rift."
"We are not even from the same world. How could I date her?"
Arin’s voice was filled with despair.
"Although I know she was pregnant, I couldn’t meet her. Her family doesn’t allow it."
"The people outside are her older brothers. They are venting their frustration on me."
Arin sighed.
"They know you saved her, right?" Oliver asked.
Arin nodded.
"I can understand their frustration," Oliver said. "You destroyed the life of their sister. Unintentionally or not, it doesn’t matter. The fact that she is pregnant doesn’t change. Getting whooped because of that is not a big deal."
He paused for a while.
"You deserve part of the blame. Why the hell did you think you could play the hero? If you had informed the police and her family at the right time, they could have saved her."
Just as Oliver said that, Victor raised his hand.
"We informed the police." He said quickly. "The police were late. We didn’t have a way to contact her family, so we couldn’t do that." He added.
"Yes, if he hadn’t stepped up, the girl would have been trafficked to some unknown place," Stephen added, his voice becoming louder.
The animosity they held because of the bullying incident seemed to have disappeared completely. Both Victor and Stephen stepped in to protect Arin.
"Boss, if you were here, we would have absolutely called you for help," Stephen said, hiding his panic.
Stephen didn’t have the balls to shout at Oliver. The previous outburst was a mistake.
He quickly calmed down and lowered his voice.
Oliver didn’t pay much attention to it.
He closely observed his brother.
"Does the girl like you?" Oliver asked again.
"I..." Arin was about to answer, but he silently shook his head.
Truth be told, they had a good relationship. But he was not sure.
He didn’t want to lie and make their ambiguous relationship into something more.
"Ah! This will cause a headache." Oliver muttered, seeing his unresponsive brother.
Somehow, He touched Nova Rift again.
Arin died last time because of the traitor Indra.
Indra was the executive of Nova Rift.
This time, it’s someone else, but still related to Nova Rift.
Is he going to die again?
Oliver was concerned.
"Anyways, what happened to the human traffickers. Did the police catch them?"
"I heard Nova Rift hunted them down," Stephen interjected.
"Hm...I see." Oliver took out his phone. "Let me make a call and see if I can do something about it," Oliver said while quickly checking his contacts to find a number.
Once the name ’Kim Yuna’ appeared on the screen, he pressed the dial and waited.
*Ring*
*Ring*
The dialer tone came from the phone.
Meanwhile, Arin and the rest looked at Oliver in confusion.
They didn’t know what Oliver was up to. But they trusted him to know that their boss was not joking.
He certainly was trying to fix the situation.
Meanwhile, Oliver patiently waited for the other side to pick up the phone.
However, they didn’t.
’Does she know? Is she avoiding me?’
Kim Yuna, the ace recruiter and empath, had once tried to recruit Oliver when he went to pay the hospital bills for Leon’s sister.
At that time, Oliver had left a lasting impression on her when she tried to peer into his mind.
There’s no way she could have forgotten him.
If she isn’t taking the call, it must be deliberate.
Oliver thought the worst and still dialled again.
This time, the call connected after a few seconds.
"Hello." The sweet, melodic voice of a female came from the other side.
"Hello, this is Oliver. Oliver Thorne. We met once in the Unity Hospital."
He introduced himself without skipping a beat.
"Oliver?"
Kim Yuna gasped. She came running out of the shower, draping a towel around her, hearing her phone ring.
As someone who was on the list to be promoted to an executive position in the guild, she couldn’t miss any call.
That’s why she hurriedly answered the unknown number.
But never in her wildest dreams or nightmares did she imagine the caller to be Oliver.
She gulped down her saliva nervously.
The image of the giant bloody hands slamming against her was still fresh in her mind.
When she remembered it, her legs became weak.
Holding the phone to her ear, she sat down on the sofa nearby.
Her eyes lost focus as the memories of the traumatic event unfolded.
"Hello, can you hear me?" Oliver asked again.
His question broke her out of her trance.
"Yes." She quickly replied.
Just his voice was sending chills down her back.
"Can we talk? There seems to be a situation going on between our families."
"Families!" Yuna frowned, her beautiful brows twisting together.
"What is it?" She asked.
