Chapter 182: Back Home

Chapter 182: Back Home

"Sigh... We can either bury today’s event or do a proper investigation. What do you want to do?"

"Bury it and increase the security of my family," Oliver suggested.

"I understand." The thunder emperor gazed at Achara. He thought for a while and said, "Sorry to say this to you, but please babysit him for me."

Achara widened her eyes.

"Me?"

"Babysitter?" Oliver raised a brow. "A babysitter? Why would I need a babysitter. For your information, I am adult capable of legally being a father." Oliver protested. "I don’t need anyone to protect me."

Thunder Emperor ignored his protest and said,

"Oliver, I will send more shadow guards to protect your family. But in exchange, you should agree to bring Achara with you from now on."

"Why? I don’t need any protection. I can take care of myself just fine. And what can she do to protect me? Aren’t you trying to make me babysit her?"

Oliver pushed back.

"Think what you may, but I need you to bring her with you for safety," Thunder Emperor said and walked back to the flying car.

"Hey, Thunder Gramps, are you insane? I saved her ass twice. Once on the Research Outpost, and the other time when the gate broke, she is practically useless."

As she heard his words, a dark shadow covered Achara’s face. She was both mortified and slightly angry.

Angry at herself because everything Oliver said was true. And mortified be cause she had no way to refute his claim.

Hence, she avoided looking at him.

"She doesn’t need to do anything. Just her presence would help you." Thunder Emperor coolly commented, climbing onto the flying car.

"Ah!" Oliver let out a frustrated sigh. "Let me think about it," Oliver said and walked to the edge of the building. "I am going home, bye." He said and jumped down the building, leaving Achara standing near the green blaze awkwardly.

’Could have put it nicely to save me some face.’ She complained to herself and returned to the flying car.

"Sir, do I really have to..."

"Yes," before she could complete her sentence, the Thunder Emperor said. "Take care of him for me. His growth far exceeds my expectations. We can’t let him slip away."

"Sir, if I may ask, what is your plan with him?"

Achara was curious.

She didn’t believe it was just to use him as a demon sensor.

"Hm...He is my disciple. And possibly my greatest asset now, what do you think?"

"..." Achara didn’t reply.

Everything happened too fast. She still couldn’t believe how fast Oliver was growing. It was just yesterday that he barely passed the SMB examination with a D-rank. And now, he was killing an A-rank demon and escaping from an S-rank one.

Was this a dream? She wondered.

"Anyway, I will let you handle the cleanup here. I have to go meet the son of a bitch again." Thunder Emperor said and pressed a button on the flying car. "See you later."

"Sigh."

Achara sighed as the flying car disappeared from her view.

"Oliver’s bad personality is rubbing off on him. I never saw him curse before." She commented and took out her phone, calling her subordinates for assistance.

After a while, Oliver walked home, taking a few detours along the way.

The road home was empty and cold. The rain clouds covering the moon have thickened.

Any second now, rain would bless the land.

Oliver quickened his pace.

After a while, he reached home.

Finally, walking through the residential area, he reached his small house at the end of the road.

A dim porch light greeted Oliver as he walked up to the door. He was about to ring the bell, but stopped.

’They must be asleep.’

It was already late into the night. He didn’t want to wake them up.

Using his blood control ability, he unlocked the door from the inside after letting a tendril of blood force its way under the door.

Oliver could sense multiple gazes overlapping on his body the moment he made that move.

It was the security guards posted near the family.

Once they confirmed he was the real Oliver, they stayed back and let him walk into the house.

Oliver smiled.

Walking in, he looked through the house with a gentle smile.

"I am home."

His voice was barely audible.

However, Oliver was very pleased when he said that.

In the past, only he knew how desperately he wished to say those three words.

"It’s nice to be home." He muttered again.

Only by losing everything did he realise how important his family was to him.

’It’s nice that I can live again.’

He walked up into the living room and sat on the sofa.

Immediately, a bout of exhaustion washed over him.

For a day, he accomplished a great deal. He was mentally exhausted.

Once the soft cushion of the sofa touched him, he melted into deep sleep.

"AAAH!!" A scream woke Oliver from his sleep.

Blinking his eyes, he squinted to focus.

A few meters away, he saw his mother holding a broom, startled.

"Mom? What happened?" He rubbed his eyes and asked.

"Oliver Thorne, when did you reach home? And why are you sleeping like that? Do you want to send your mother to the afterlife?" Oliver’s mother rubbed her chest, scared and asked.

Oliver was sleeping upside down, his head touching the ground while his leg was flung over the sofa, suspended in the air.

From afar, Oliver looked like the generic horror-flick zombie, with dishevelled hair and an unnatural pose.

She was terrified.

Hence the scream.

Before Oliver could reply, his brother and father came running into the living room.

"What happened?"

They asked simultaneously, jumping in front of Maya, to protect her.

Maya shook her head and pointed at the sofa with the broom in her hand.

Oliver fixed his posture and climbed out of the sofa, saying.

"Hi."

Immediately, they simultaneously let out a relieved sigh.

"Brother?"

"Son?"

"You are back?"

"Yes, I reached home yesterday. It was late into the night, so I didn’t want to disturb your sleep." Oliver rubbed his eyes and yawned.

"Good morning, everyone." He smiled brightly.

"Mom, what’s for breakfast?" He asked, rubbing his growling stomach.

"Ah...my sleep," Arin muttered and ignored his brother, walking back to his room.

Oliver’s father did the same.

Maya smiled and walked up to Oliver. "Son, come with me. Help me make breakfast."

"Ah! Mom, let me sleep a few more minutes. Breakfast can wait." Oliver immediately jumped to his feet and dashed into his room.

Maya chuckled and walked to the kitchen.
