BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 381: The Meeting
Chapter 381: The Meeting
GRAYSON
~
Three Days Earlier
I mindlessly rotate the small dagger between my fingers, keeping my eyes on the night view of the city. It’s beautiful. With the highlight of each building alit and the skies decorated with stars, the night is beautiful and it was something I don’t bother to look at times.
I could already feel Emma was having a look too just like I am, and that thought made a smile stretch my lips briefly.
"You understand what you’re saying?"
"Of course... isn’t it a fair deal? Mr. Roman?"
Still rotating the small dagger between my fingers I lazily dragged my eyes to the meeting happening just in the middle of the room, like a conference, and I was the only oddball deciding not to wear a damn suit and look like rich English dudes. Not that I cared.
"Vampires are going extinct, because of the mindless dark Alpha bent on wiping us" One of them snarled and his fangs were already visible, the others showed the same angry expression, purely focused on Luther like they could burn a hole in his body.
That’s the only thing they are able to do... Look... no one dared to approach him.
And as usual, Luther remained calm and collected at the head of the table with a smile on his lips, unfazed. Sometimes I wonder when he will ever wipe that twisted smirk from his lips, it unnerves me, five years going and it still ticks me off.
He leaned away from his chair and rested his elbows on the table. "What do you expect us to do? Wage a war with no chance of winning?" he mused.
"And you suggest we hide?" Another said looking irritated by Luther’s words.
The others’ looks were that of disbelief.
"Yes hide but that doesn’t mean we’re cowards"
"Cowards run!" Another barked.
"We focus on our population that has always been our main priority and will be," Luther said. "Hide now and win the battle for another day"
Another huffed. "Each and every single day his force grows beyond reckoning, he has the entire Rogues at his command!"
He wasn’t lying though, in the span of five years Dace’s forces had grown like a tyrant, he controls the Rogues and that was a bigger problem for all vampires.
Everyone knew just how much the Werelions despise Vampires and vice versa.
But risking an out war will not be something they will win and everyone was smart enough to know that... The Lords are just angry that most of their sires were killed during Dace’s rampage.
Risking a war involves Emma and that is a big NO for me.
"If it wasn’t for the previous Count who struck a bargain with Elias Devereaux we wouldn’t be in this mess... his son wouldn’t be insane to wipe us all out for interfering with them!"
"Yes yes, I blame Daddy for his mistakes, but blaming the dead will not get us anywhere would it?" Luther interjected, shooting them a glare.
Finally, he was getting worked up, let’s see if he can keep these damn Lords planted to their seats.
"You just want the vampires at your every command, you want us out of the spotlight!"
For their safety but they are too foolish to realize a war will only extinct the vampires faster than they could blink. Dace is always ready for anything he’s not a force to be reckoned with.
"And that will keep all you grumpy old men safe!"
One slammed his hand on the table, brooding silence everywhere. "We know exactly why you won’t wage war, you won’t risk the numbers and you won’t risk your whore of a Countess pulled in-"
I didn’t let him finish. My dagger was already close to his throat and he froze, every eye on me. I leaned to him and he remained still, vampire or not, one hit from my blade will destroy him. I was that confident.
"If you ever call my sister a whore I won’t hesitate to kill every single one of you Lords in this room"
"Am I an exception, Grayson?"
I ignored Luther’s words of jest, he thinks everything is an amusement, sometimes even his own life. But I can’t miss he was already on the verge of doing the honors by going for the kill, I just acted faster, not as faster than them... just smarter.
"You’re not one of us you don’t get the right you filthy hybrid-"
I slit his throat and blood sprayed onto the table stunning every other Lord. The once white surface was now painted in red. I already hated Lord Roman, especially when Emma was introduced to them as Countess. His lustful gaze didn’t go unnoticed, I had been meaning to kill him and I just needed the right time to do so.
"Anyone else have something else to say about my sister?" I asked, wiping the bloody dagger on his suit. Roman still remained choking on his own blood but he won’t heal, I didn’t just come to a room full of vampires wielding normal blades.
"Anyone who speaks ill of the Countess will feel my wrath," Luther said and the room got chilly cold. "It will be fun to rid of all of you and replace the Lords with someone who at least has respect for their superiors"
No one dared to utter a single word. Good. That means we’re at least getting somewhere with this meeting and we can finally be done.
I want Emma out of this country as soon as possible.
I heard a distorted noise and it didn’t go unnoticed by the others, that familiar sound.
Instantly there was a warp in space right at the center of the table and an orange cat came into view with a look of panic.
"Tiger?"
What the fuck is he doing here?
"The mansion was attacked!"
Luther shot out from his seat at the news and Tiger rushed to me and held my arm with his paws.
"Mistress is in danger!"
I froze like a block of ice.
"The Werelions have made their move!" One said and I was still trying to gather my thoughts.
"They are after the Countess"
"Luther!" I boomed. "You said the mansion was safe!" I made sure too, I didn’t leave for this meeting until I was certain Emma was okay, she just came back from the country and now this?!
"It’s safe!" Luther snapped and his eyes were beaming as anger took over his features. He looked confused too, trying to ponder how this happened and I was too.
"Tiger, why did you leave when you should have stayed with her!"
"She told me to leave, Blonde idiot!"
I ran my hands through my hair in frustration as a mantra of curses left me.
"Gentlemen, this meeting is over!" Luther announced.
But he didn’t even need to say it... I was already storming out of the room.
~
I didn’t let the car stop and I was already out, my heart sank when I saw the building a complete mess.
"Mistress!" Tiger called, rushing inside on his paws and I followed.
The bodies, the upside-down mess, it got my blood boiling, everything passed me like a blur as I rushed to the top floor through the stairs.
"Emma!"
She cannot be dead, because if she is, I would have sensed it I would have known, she has to still be alive.
My eyes scanned the shattered windows and then on the blood on the floor, judging from how it looked, bodies were once here but were taken away.
"I smell her blood," Luther said suddenly beside me and he walked to a spot and squatted to it, and his finger dipped on the blood against the floor.
"It’s Emma’s," he said with clenched teeth.
And I already feel like killing something.
"She was taken and..." he rose to his feet facing me with a stoic expression. "I smell the Dark Alpha too... he was here"
"He took her?" I said in disbelief.
No no no! Anything but that... hasn’t he done enough?
"He knows... he knows I have a Countess"
Fuck!
"This wouldn’t have happened if she stayed out of the country!"
But Emma insisted she wanted to come with us because she knew how important the meeting was... it would determine the future of the vampires. Emma is the most dedicated person I have ever known and she wanted to play her role.
Even when she insisted she was coming with us tonight to the meeting I told her to stay and that Luther and I would handle it, if only I had taken her with me, none of this would have happened.
"Tiger," Luther said to the cat beside me.
"You go to Emma and make it discreet"
"I will take some time to trace her, gingerhead!"
"Just do it!" he snapped. "Grayson"
I darted my eyes to him still trying to calm my anger and self regret.
"This is his plan"
I know that.
"A way to get to me"
"Then we take the invitation!"
"We can’t act reckless Grayson, but first we need to know if she’s okay"
I hate to be a pessimist bastard right now but how could she be? He doesn’t remember her and he sees her as nothing but a vampire.
