Chapter 382: Avoiding War

EMMA

~

I listened to everything Tiger had to say and it was everything I expected, but I wasn’t so sure how long Grayson would keep his cool. Luther on the other hand was acting in the right mind as a leader, but Grayson let his impulse get to him and he might just fall into this trap and mess created by Dace.

They both might.

And I don’t want that... we can’t risk war with Dace, it’s like a death sentence, Dace has too much power and the vampires are foolish not to swallow their pride. That was why the meeting was needed in the first place, a meeting I had no idea how it went, not until Tiger told me just now, and just as expected the Lords were too stubborn to bury their egos and live.

The Lords were a Council created by the first Count and they held just as much power but ruled over the Count, but even I doubt that control sometimes ever since the first time I stayed a room with them during my introduction to the vampire society.

"Mistress?"

I darted my eyes to my cat’s hazel eyes. I forced a smile. "You did good finding me Tiger, your portal jumps are getting better" I praise him rubbing him just at the back of his ears where he loves it and he purrs.

Tiger gained the knowledge of speech as my powers grew over the years, I didn’t know much about having a Familiar but I knew Tiger was special in every way, even when his voice sounded like teenage boy but with deeper volume, a complete contrast to his age and his cute personality.

"That wound" he eased from my rub and settled his gaze on my shoulder where the awful bite was.

"It’s stopping me from using my powers... as long as it remains I can’t do anything"

At least the very one that will help me hold my ground.

"I have to go back and tell gingerhead and blondehead about your condition"

Did I mention Tiger refers to everyone else by their hair color instead of their names? I was the only exception in the sense that he calls me mistress, and I have pressured him to call me by my name but he ignores me.

"I don’t know," I admit. My mind is swirling with many things.

"What do you mean you don’t know?"

"Going back will give them more reason to come and we can’t let that happen"

"What do you have in mind?" he asked as his tail swayed behind him, an action he does whenever he is curious or tense.

I opened my mouth to reply but a harsh knock came at the door.

"I heard noises"

Fuck! It’s Singe, he must have heard my yelp.

"Get under the bed and erase your aura" I instructed and Tiger simply nodded and rushed under it.

I had checked this room for cameras on the first day here with a simple sensory magic I could conjure in this state so I was certain I wasn’t being watched. Even now there is a miniature sound barrier that will rid any werelion’s hearing.

I rushed to the door and yanked it open. "What noise?" I asked too sharply and he narrowed his eyes.

Okay, that was a mistake on my part.

He stepped in intruding as he scanned the room. "I heard a noise and then voices"

"Voices?"

He kept scanning and if he focused too much he might find Tiger.

"I tripped"

He faces me.

"It’s embarrassing enough to admit,"

He cleared his throat.

"So that was the noise you heard earlier"

He nods and I resist taking a breath of relief but I am cautious he might get suspicious again so I ride on.

"So tell me Singe will I be thrown out of the guest room?"

"Depend on how Ms. Emilia’s attitude gets"

Her attitude will be wild alright, I know her that much but I don’t say it.

"Too bad... already getting to love this room," I said polling on the bed. "It’s better than staying close to your Alpha"

"Everyone has that impression of him" It wasn’t a warm talk from Singe, just a stated fact even if I didn’t realize it.

"The cold, distant, calculating Alpha"

He narrowed his eyes at my words almost like he was studying me. I forced a smile.

"What? Don’t I describe your Alpha as best as I can?"

He said nothing, looking to the side. "I have met vampires, their bloodthirsty nature is like a second skin, but you seem more human than them"

I gulped. His words caught me off guard but I remained composed as the devious Countess.

"If it wasn’t for the bite on my shoulder I would have made you eat those words, Singe" I tried to threaten but he didn’t look fazed.

"You took down three of our own, you’re that much’’ Others might think it was an acknowledgment but it wasn’t, I killed three of them, his brethren, so he definitely wasn’t pleased by that fact.

I didn’t mean to kill them... but my icy blood is like a disease. I only meant to sedate them but I took their lives. My very nature is just bloodthirsty... so Singe should rephrase his words about me being human.

Sometimes I want to drown myself in what I have become but why do that when that part has always laid dominant within me? It took years to come to that realization.

"Now can you please get out I need privacy" My glamor changed instantly.

He said nothing else, just a curt nod allowing his eyes to scan the room before leaving. I gave a sigh of relief before locking the door behind him.

I faced Tiger who just bounced back on the bed. "Seems like you’re more of a guest here than a prisoner, mistress"

"Not sure how long it will last," I admitted. "I have a plan Tiger, a plan that will not lead to war"

"A plan?"

"I know my way and I will get myself out of this mess," I said sitting beside him. "In the meantime I need you to count how many guards and the less place that has security"

He nods.

I already have my ticket out of here and I will take it. I just need to be cautious. I need to get out of the jaws of Dace Devereaux, it was better for the both of us.

Avoid war.

Leave this tormenting nightmare.
