Chapter 333: The Secret Entrance

"Emma we have been here all day, you don’t think we will cover the entire library today do you?" Grayson said staring at the pile of books on the table we were yet to finish and search for another one.

I yawned rubbing my eyes with the back of my hand.

"That’s it, we’re going home right now" he interjected.

I placed my hand on his chest to stop the close distance between us when he drew closer. "Just 5 more minutes"

"You said that an hour ago, look at the time it’s 2 am, and don’t forget there’s high school to attend"

"We could take a sick day," I shrugged.

"Really? And mess up your grades more?"

I rolled my eyes mumbling something under my breath and leafed through the pages of the book I held. "I just feel that we can find something here, I mean look at this library"

"I believe you but we can’t find it all in one day," he said with a frown, his eyes scanning my features. "You haven’t eaten much too"

I groaned. "Not now"

He grabbed the book away from me and placed it on the table before taking my arm and dragging me out of the library.

"Grayson!"

I sat in class with a pale expression, the teacher going through the subjects but everything flew out of my brain, I just sat like a corpse staring blankly at the board, I just couldn’t wait for night school, I couldn’t wait to continue my search, with each passing second it just seemed like I was itching to get out.

I made a mistake by darting my eyes to the empty seat beside me and I found my heart tugging again, a spot that was meant for Dace. The memories didn’t help either, of Dace sitting beside me and murmuring something to my ear making me giggle, or when he frowns and tells me to concentrate instead of ogling him all through class, or when he puts me through subjects I don’t understand.

I miss his touch

I miss his voice

I miss his smiles

I miss his warmth

It’s just so cold without him. I looked away as my eyes turned glassy and forced my entire focus on what the teacher was blahing about, sniffing.

Break period wasn’t easy either, although I sat with the gang, I was uninteresting in engaging in a conversation with them.

"You okay?" Grayson asked with a worried look.

I forced a smile nodding, he gestured for me to eat my food, and I did not ready to deal with his nagging, he have been doing that ever since and it wasn’t helping whenever I say no, so I complied, at least I don’t feel weak how I usually do.

"How do you do it?" I asked, watching as Grayson set his bike right and placed the helmets in position.

"Do what?"

"Handle not being close to Emilia, I mean you guys are connected, the whole bond thingy"

He sighed walking ahead and I followed beside him, heading to the covenstead building.

"It’s hard, I try not to dwell on it but it still hurts"

"You’re strong" I mumbled facing ahead.

He nudges me with his shoulder. "You’re strong too, what you and Dace share is something special. Me? I’m just a dick who doesn’t know what he wants"

"Did you just call yourself a dick?"

He smirked. "A possible explanation of what I should call myself," he shrugged.

"Why don’t you just accept her?"

He raised an eyebrow at my words. "Is not just about that you know"

I nodded in understanding. "I wonder how their parents will react when they find out, Dace and I had it coming, even Oliver will snap"

It was either one thing or the other. I had a feeling Grayson wants to be with Emilia so badly even though he acts indifferently like he won’t accept it. I had a feeling he was more concerned about her parents. Being a warlock was one thing but being a Venatores was another.

We got to the library and once again began with our search, books scattered on the table we sat on. I flicked through the book I held, done with it, and still nothing or even a glimpse of what I was searching for.

"Shouldn’t we ask for help?" Grayson said, sensing my frustration.

I gave him a look. "What? Tell them I’m searching for a way to rewrite my werelion boyfriend’s DNA because he’s gradually transmitting into a rogue?"

He opened his mouth to speak but nothing came up, he buried his eyes back into the book he went through and mumbled "Good point"

I sighed, rising to my feet, grabbed the pile of books I was done with, and walked back to the shelf in a corner enclosed by other shelves right against the hall. It was odd because it looked weirdly familiar.

Is it just me or do these books suddenly feel heavy? Everything just felt heavy, even holding onto it was a sorry excuse, my arms gave out and the books were falling but a fast hand caught three of them.

"Oh thank god"

"You good?"

I raised my gaze to Owen before me.

"I have been asked that question for so long and it’s getting annoying" I mumbled and he chuckled helping me arrange the books.

"It’s not funny"

"I know, my bad, but why are you here? You and Grayson have been reading an awful lot"

"Nothing, just learning as best as we can," I said, tip-toeing to place the last book in a space that was clearly taller than me.

I felt a warm body pressed onto my back and Owen’s hand coming behind to help.

"You know, I can tell when you lie now" he whispered to my ear and I shuddered.

I bit my bottom lip "I’m not-" while turning to face him I gripped the shelf and heard an unlocking sound.

"What was that?" I asked with wide eyes and Owen mirrored my expression.

"Emma, did you get more books?" I heard Grayson from behind and approaching footsteps. That was when the shelf mysteriously gave off the sound of something unlocking again and before we knew it right before our eyes the shelf parted like a cave opening and pushed to the side.

"Okay, what the hell?" Grayson said dumbstruck.

"A secret door?" I said staring into the dark space it opened to and spotting the stairs.

"I don’t believe this"

I turned to Owen who had his eyes fixated on the path like it was a dream come true.

"D-Do you know something about this?" I asked softly and he darted his eyes back to me.

"I’m just as surprised as you Emma," he shrugged. "What do you say, wanna explore?"
