Chapter 184: Undivided Attention

Chapter 184: Undivided Attention

What was wrong with me? Why do I feel like I’m being hauled by something, being tugged towards something that was hard to explain? Why was my attention focused on this guy? Why do I feel like if I look away my heart would fall off my chest?

So I didn’t look away... my gaze remained on him, assertive but also trembling. Observing his every move like a hawk even as he took his seat and relaxed on it. Watching him dropping his bag, taking out a book, and spreading his legs to get comfortable. It was like watching a thriller movie and the suspense killing you because you don’t know what might happen next.

In the back of my head I heard our teacher getting ready to lecture, she already began but her words were like an echo at the back of my head. My puzzled calculative features on this guy, Grayson Yaeger. I shivered... even thinking about his name gave me an odd feeling to my body, making my senses tide and my body on several splitting nerves.

"Emma Adams"

It felt bizarre.

"Emma"

So inviting.

"Emma!"

And...

"Emma Adams!"

I jumped facing our teacher now in front of my seat, how did she get here? She was frowning now, her hands on her waist watching me closely with her heated gaze.

"I know the new boy is hot but I will not tolerate your dividing attention in my class"

I blushed and the rest of the class erupted in a chuckle.

"S-Sorry" I stammered so badly attempting to cover my face from this shame. Being caught gaping at a guy by a teacher was really embarrassing, I wasn’t ogling to be exact I was just trying to figure him out. Those were two different things, but I wasn’t sure she got that... maybe my look was mistaken by me being lured to his looks when it was the exact opposite.

"Of course," she said, walking back to her table and resuming.

I didn’t dare look again, I just forced myself to concentrate on the board but my body still tugged at me, yanked me to look in his direction but I forced myself not to, I barely.

~

The bells rang and everyone was already rushing out with the teacher saying something in the loud background. I hurried packing my textbook and books and then I trailed, I just had to... but he was gone, where did he go?

"Emma"

I jumped looking over to Owen. "You okay? You look jumpy" he said with worried features.

I blinked and snapped out of it, packing my books into my bag and rising to my feet. "I’m fine"

"Sure?"

"Y-Yeah"

"You don’t seem fine," he said, pushing on. "Do you feel something?"

I stopped facing him with puzzling features.

"Did you feel something coming from that new guy?"

I don’t know what he meant and how he knew I felt something, but what did I exactly feel?

"I don’t know," I shrugged. "What? Did you feel something?"

He shook his head.

"Then why are you under the assumption that I feel something?"

"Well..." he trailed almost like he was searching for something to say. "Being a half-witch and all you attract things" he shrugged. "...unwanted"

I nodded. "The truth is I don’t know what I feel..." I sighed. "It’s... I don’t"

"Maybe it’s because he’s good looking"

I punched him on the arm.

"Ow!"

"Why are you assuming that?" not him too! That was the least of my concern.

"Well all girls in class couldn’t keep their eyes off him, even you weren’t an exception"

"Christ!" I rolled my eyes walking away. I mean he is good-looking, perfectly drop gorgeous but...

"Emma"

I raised my head seeing Dace coming downstairs. But nothing could make me hold my breath and smell something as tasty as Dace before me or feel like all cells in my body are being awakened at the same time whenever I look into his eyes, only Dace has that effect on me.

This guy Grayson was making me feel something unpredictable and it sort of shocked my bones. Fear? I don’t know! That’s the problem... I don’t know what I feel.

~

I chewed on my apple before biting down on it hard, almost like I could chew my teeth too. I did it several times as my eyes darted to the very newbie of our class, who I was fortunate to find during lunch hours, the guy looked like he was invisible, almost like a damn ghost, just there in the center of the crowded table, seated alone, eating, his ears covered with his headset ears and he seemed to be in his own world. I got nostalgic watching him because that was how my life was until I came to this town, the ghost girl.

I could almost see myself in him, it was so nostalgic that I was suddenly reminded of the times I was always alone and never sought attention, I would pass a crowd with my small frame unnoticed to the world.

"Are you eating or ogling?"

"Hmm?" I answered my eyes still on him before I forced them back to Dace who didn’t look pleased at all. His iris was dark too, Shit! I stared too long, didn’t I?

"Is there something I should know? Or is that guy more of a better view"

Now he sounds jealous and I almost giggle at his words but that would not be such a good idea. He believes I’m drooling over him which is the total opposite.

I leaned on the table, placing my elbow on the table. "He’s the new guy in our class"

Dace took a brief look at him before jamming my eyes back. "I can see that... so?"

"Don’t you like... I don’t know smell something off about him?"

He narrowed his eyes. "Except for the fact, my baby girl is checking out another guy when I’m clearly in front of her. Yeah... that’s definitely something off"

I couldn’t resist an eye roll at this point. ’"It’s not that Dace... there’s just something off about him, you think you could sniff him out and find out what? I promise I’m not ogling at him..."

He didn’t look convinced.

"The guy I wanna look at is you," I said faintly with a blush, hoping he gets it, and maybe he did, maybe.

"Even if I wanted to, I can’t distinguish the guy’s scent with you here, remember? Your scent is too intoxicating to me"

Shit! I forgot about that, how was I gonna find out about this mystery guy?

"You’re not gonna let this go are you?" Dace said. He could read me, he always gets me and I was glad he did.

So I gave him an answer with a smile. "I could meet with him, and talk with him"

He narrowed his eyes. "You?"

I nodded. "Just a friendly talk... if you aren’t gonna sniff him out for me" this was how desperate I was about this newbie I can’t shake the feeling off.

"You? Walk out in this crowd and talk with a guy you don’t even know?"

I bit my bottom lip adjusting my glasses. "You know I can’t do that" I mumbled.

"Are you that curious?"

I nodded eagerly.

"Fine" he growled and my face brightened.

~

I peeked at Grayson in the hall, watching as he opened his locker and I faced Dace behind me.

"Okay... go on"

Dace wasn’t smiling at all, he was in a foul mood, and now it looked like I was pushing him.

"Under one condition"

"W-What? Right now? I thought you were doing this for me"

"I am... but clearly you can see I’m not happy about this at all" he gripped my waist and yanked me to his body and I gasped. "Watching you set your attention on that guy, is making me split," he said through clenched teeth.

"I-Its harmless, I’m just unsettled and I wanna know why, I feel like my skin crawls and..."

His eyes softened. "Is he bothering you?" his grip was now possessive and I groaned hoping he got the message that he was holding me too hard. He notices and quickly lets me go.

I pulled some strands of my hair behind my ear, my gaze leveled before looking back at him. "He’s not bothering me, Dace, I just met him today and just know his name, I think he’s new in town too" I sighed. "I just wanna figure out this dreadful feeling within me, I can’t explain... maybe it’s magic or..."

"Supernaturals can’t cross the barrier without us knowing," he said with certain eyes.

"I know that..." I nodded but that feeling can’t be real. "B-But what if he is?"

"Okay," he said softly. "I understand"

"Thank you" I blushed.

"I will sniff him out, anything out of the ordinary we will bring it to the family hearing"

"Okay"

"Keep your distance"

I nodded rushing to the stairs, I have to be a bit far away so that Dace can concentrate. Dace’s abilities were unique... he could sniff out what a person was and distinguish it. This was the best chance of finding out if this Grayson guy is a supernatural or not, whichever it is I was dying to find out...
