BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 100: Magic
Chapter 100: Magic
I felt a sting in my chest, the dread feeling swallowing me like a wave, and my breath on snag but I forced myself to breathe again, like cold water was spattered on my body, my fingers mingled jointly.
I heard a sigh beside me. "Look I’m sorry for putting it that way, but I just thought I should let you know"
"I-Its okay," I said in a serene tone, leisurely lifting my gaze to meet his eyes. "B-Besides they aren’t coming to school anymore, you don’t have to worry"
He was about to speak but the words hung and I used that as an opportunity to set my eyes on the book and sighed deeply.
"You know..." he began breaking the small second of silence that was suddenly discomfiting. "The barrier is nearest here"
I snapped my eyes back to him "R-Really?"
He nods with a small smile. "Look" he points in the direction of the iron gates around the garden covered in plants, I observed.
"Watch closely" I scarcely quaked because his words seemed like they were close to my ears. But I did as he told me, watching closely, making sure I focused on that and not his breath brushing against me.
"I-I don’t s-see anything,"
"Keep looking"
I sighed while adjusting my glasses. I didn’t know what I was concentrating on exactly. He just pointed towards the gate so I focused on it, narrowly capping my eyes.
The gust of wind came through making the plants wiggle and just for a split second I saw a glossary air like a bubble and my eyes widened.
"I-Is that?"
Owen chuckled beside me. "Yes"
I rose to my feet still astounded as I took gradual measures towards the gate. "It’s like a bubble" one minute I could see the glossary gust and the next it was gone. "And air"
"Yes"
I faced Owen who had a smile on his lips. "Wanna see something cooler?" he grips the book.
And I nodded like a child, he tapped the space beside him and I walked towards it. Watching as he opened the book, I scowled.
"It’s blank"
"Well that is what you see, for me I can see spells, only those with witch blood are capable of seeing it"
"Oh," I hung my mouth with a nod.
"You know I have been working on something for months now" he nudged his head at the soil before us.
"Planting"
"Nope, as I said before my element is earth and anything belonging to it"
"So it’s about the plant then" I shrugged.
"Yes and it’s very hard for me to master, I’m hoping I will be able to, so I can show you"
I seemed interested, it’s not a daily lifestyle when you get to experience the magic, this was a golden opportunity.
"S-Show me"
"Can’t lose my cool now"
"Are you using me as motivation, Sherman?" I mused.
He gave a smug grin. "Observe" he stretched his hand forward and I did only heed him, this was cringe to watch but I just allowed myself to be stoic, many weird things have happened before, and this will be just like it, the thought of actually seeing magic happen before me, thrilled me.
My body tensed when he started chanting some language foreign to me, I narrowed my eyes, I have come across some languages before but I never heard this one, I merely focused on his voice testing to make sense of it but it was a dead end, his voice was clear and whatever language he used was quite expansive.
His eyes were centered on the soil, focused, even with all the birds chirping he could still do that. I felt I wasn’t even beside him, this is cool and sort of scary. I trained my eyes to the soil he was focused on and I gulped, waiting in anticipation. I was overly excited to see what he would do, my heart like a slamming drum, waiting for something, anything. The thrill was killing me and I was unable to stop my eager breaths.
"Fuck!" the moment he cursed I felt like a rope was snapped. "It’s not working"
"K-Keep trying I have a feeling it will work" I encouraged, but I DID feel it, which was a strange feeling, it could be because I was overly focused on Owen.
"Been trying for months Emma, I really hoped it would work this time, this is so so hard, if I don’t master this then I’m not capable"
I placed my hand on his and he seemed to tense when I did that as he faced me with reading eyes, I blushed before clearing my throat.
"D-Don’t say that... that you aren’t capable"
He was about to speak.
"T-Try again"
A smile found his lips and he gave me a nod, he faced the soil back and stretched out his hand, he took a deep breath closing his eyes before flicking them open and chanting the foreign language again with more focus.
I turned to the soil before facing him back, I noticed some beads of sweat broke free, he hadn’t done anything so why the sweat?
I subconsciously tightened my hand on his and then he gasped.
"What?"
"Look!"
I faced the soil and I saw a growing plant, my eyes widened as I watched something that should take weeks or months to happen, a plant was growing before my very eyes like a beanstalk.
"You did it, Owen!" I said elatedly.
"No no no it should stop"
"What?" I faced him.
"I-Its growing too fast"
And he was right, our heads tilted backward as we watched the trail of the plant go all the way up to the ceiling, intertwined with it, and spread on the white surface in roots.
"Seems like you chanted for a beanstalk or something," I said, still in awe of what was unfolding, this looks so unreal.
"No, the spell was for a 2 weeks plant"
I focused my eyes on him, his ardent gaze was focused on me, and I felt my nerves bobble.
"W-W-Why are you looking at me like that?"
