Blind Spot -
Chapter 382 - 349 application one
Chapter 382: 349 application one
The cold, dry wind blew from the distance.
It whipped up the white dust scattered on the ground.
Li Chengyi looked at the door, walked up to it, and only reached out when he was right in front of it.
His fingers entered the door but seemingly passed through an illusion, and nothing happened.
He then walked through it and emerged on the other side.
"So I really can’t get in?" Li Chengyi turned to look at the towering building behind him.
That was where he had fallen before, and also the location of the Balance Angel and the Silent Angel.
’What I need to find now is the Whispering Ring. This is a good chance to test the limits and consumption of the Power of Language.’
This was his third entrance into the Blind Spot, which meant that if he couldn’t find a way out this time, he would have to resort to forced methods to escape.
Such as killing or destroying the Blind Spot.
But these were not what he intended to do, because it would undoubtedly make entering the next time even more difficult.
Considering that the Silent Angel could already thrash him now, he truly didn’t know what it could be enhanced to next time.
Moreover, he always had a question.
In a Blind Spot, multiple Blind Spot Individuals were bound to come and go.
If he could cause the Blind Spot to become stronger, then others definitely could too—how exactly did this mechanism work?
Why had he not encountered this situation up until now?
It was always him causing the Blind Spot to strengthen again, and seldom did he meet others who strengthened the Blind Spot.
’No... perhaps, the Blind Spots I am encountering now have already been enhanced by others?’
After all, the flow of time in the Blind Spot was different from the outside world. It might be very brief for others who entered, or perhaps everything had been refreshed.
A fixed cycle refresh wasn’t something new.
With such doubts in mind,
Li Chengyi once again headed towards the building with angels.
In this district, the most conspicuous structure was that building.
The building was a kind of composite structure, resembling a cone with its tip cut off, surrounded by four ash-white towers at the center.
Ash-colored clouds faintly swirled around its apex.
From where Li Chengyi stood, he could see many terraces on the surface of the building, like a hollowed-out cheese full of black holes.
He thought for a moment and quickly realized that in some places in the distance, there were skeletons that seemed different from the common ones.
These skeletons wore rusty metal equipment: helmets, armor, shields, longswords, iron boots, you name it.
A thought struck Li Chengyi, and with a surge of power in his feet, he flashed instantaneously, appearing twenty meters away in the blink of an eye thanks to Shadow Flash.
Since his bloodline enhanced, his Shadow Flash distance had also increased to twenty meters.
And it seemed his body was still being strengthened continuously, as if brewing some special ability.
With another Shadow Flash, he accurately appeared above the equipped skeletons.
"I’m moving."
He said aloud.
The group of skeletons couldn’t object, and the Flower Language Ability was activated.
Boom.
All the skeletons in a twenty-meter radius around him planted their feet into the ground and laid down their weapons, silently forming a human wall.
And the first batch of skeletons that Li Chengyi had immobilized were still pinned in place in the distance, motionless.
"Give me a clue to the Whispering Ring, a ring with an angel figurine on it, which grants the right to pass through the mysterious door,"
Li Chengyi said gravely.
"If you don’t, I will hit you."
"....."
The group of skeletons had no words to respond—they couldn’t talk back.
Though his words sounded like the petulant threat of a child, under the effect of Flower Language, they soon became restless.
After a short time, a large skeleton adorned with partial silver ornaments raised its hand and pointed towards the angelic structure in the center.
Li Chengyi was not sure why they could understand his words, but this Flower Language was indeed very powerful.
Clearly, these skeletons could not understand his Yi Country language nor were likely to retain any organs like the cochlea to pick up sound.
Yet, they seemed to understand his spoken words.
Standing there, Li Chengyi pondered for a moment. He did not head towards the angelic structure but instead turned and charged towards the outskirts of the city district.
Using Shadow Flash repeatedly, combined with sprinting,
In less than half a minute, he reached the edge of this Blind Spot city district.
Outside the city was a vast grey-white desert.
At first glance, there was nothing at all.
The grey-white sand merged with the grey-white sky, almost indistinguishable at the boundary.
’It seems that the Whispering Ring is most likely in this city district...’ Based on the direction indicated by that skeleton earlier, it’s most probable that it is inside the angelic structure.
In any case, there was no way around that building.
Li Chengyi sighed, turned around, and headed back.
Before long, he was back in front of the angelic structure, and he circled the building once more.
There were four white towers surrounding the building.
The towers were cylindrical, with openings that served as windows.
Not inclined to use the main entrance, Li Chengyi chose one of the white towers and used Shadow Flash in succession to scale the wall, quickly reaching a dark hole of a window over a hundred meters high.
Amidst the howling of the wind, he entered through the arched window.
Inside was a small room.
There was a grey wooden desk, two spread-out black wooden chairs, a cupboard with a mirror for dressing, and a grey cloak with a hood hanging on the wall.
Beyond that, there was a framed painting hanging by the window.
The frame contained a peculiar painting against a black background.
On the dark canvas, there stood a large ash-white tree, each of its branches ending in a snake’s head, tongues flickering out.
’A tree covered with snakes?’
Li Chengyi looked around; the room was so bare it didn’t even have a bed, clearly just a temporary duty room.
He walked over to the desk and started checking the drawers one by one.
Clatter.
The main drawer in the middle was pulled open, revealing some rusty metal components inside, as if something had been disassembled and stored here.
He then opened the right-hand drawer.
Inside was a package that had turned black, wrapped in a cloth bag. The gray cloth was stained black by the contents inside, with some parts completely turned black.
Li Chengyi didn’t touch it but continued to open the left drawer.
Inside, there was a pen and a hardcover notebook.
The notebook was entirely black except for the center, where it bore the Serpent Tree pattern that hung on the wall.
The design was identical, only smaller here.
Li Chengyi took out the notebook and flipped it open to take a look.
Inside was a strange script made up of dots, zigzag lines, and semicircles, which he couldn’t understand at all.
But there were also many illustrations.
For example, rough sketches of wraiths and skeletons.
Thinking it over, he tentatively called out to Yserine in the depths of his mind.
Since his Holy Spirit Technique had grown stronger, Yserine could no longer pop into his head and converse at will like before.
According to her, Li Chengyi’s consciousness power seemed to have grown substantially, and its density had also become much stronger than before.
If she wanted to enter into conversation like before, it might cause harm to both of them.
So now, she could only connect and converse if he invited her.
"Yserine..."
"Yserine...?"
Li Chengyi called out softly.
After a good ten seconds or so, at last, a faint voice drifted over from afar, gradually growing louder and clearer.
"Brother, I’m completing a research task given by my teacher, what’s happening?" Yserine’s voice carried a hint of exhaustion, indicating the task was not an easy one.
"Sorry, I might have run into a bit of a problem. I’ve come across some new script; could you help me take a look at it?" Li Chengyi said.
"Sure, please remember the script and then imagine passing it to me," Yserine said.
Li Chengyi did as instructed, memorizing a line of text and sending it over.
"This... is a variant of the Black Sea Script, a language called Xadelama, part ritualistic and part everyday language," Yserine said, clearly much more erudite than before.
"Can you translate it?"
"I can, but I’m not familiar with it, so it might be slow, and there could be mistakes."
"That’s alright, as long as I can roughly understand the gist," Li Chengyi said, unconcerned.
"Okay then..." Yserine, the Blind Spot assistant, started having Li Chengyi imagine segments of the script and passed them to her for translation.
"...regarding the in-depth phenomena of skeleton and wraith appearances in research experiments."
"How can those who have died move again? We seek the source of their power; no matter how it transforms, there must be a core origin.
Skeletons won’t move on their own... won’t connect together without reason; there must be some threads invisible to us linking everything."
"After testing with one hundred forty-three different research forces, the White Hall discovered the sustaining power of skeletons: a special force invisible and intangible, existing only inside and around the bones of the deceased. We have named this force: Death Energy."
"The extraction of Death Energy must utilize a mixture containing the bone powder of the deceased. With the aid of the mixture’s adhesion, we’ve successfully established the Death Energy Circulation Pool and applied it to the various statues of my lord."
"Analysis revealed that Death Energy, compared to common electrical energy, more readily activates inanimate objects... This might be the starting point for a new energy revolution of the new century."
"From this moment on, the deceased are no longer without value."
With Yserine’s translation, Li Chengyi was slowly making his way through the notebook.
Eventually, he even came across experimental facility design drawings, marked with lots of minute data measurements.
"This is a researcher’s notes, not very detailed ones, just simple records," Yserine said.
"Death Energy..." Li Chengyi narrowed his eyes, thinking of those moving angelic statues; the city seemed far more interesting than he had imagined.
"The notebook mentions electrical energy, so it’s clear this Blind Spot once belonged to a world capable of utilizing electricity just like ours," Yserine said.
"Yes. They tried to study Death Energy to kickstart a new energy revolution, but there seems to have been some kind of problem that caused a disaster, leading to everything being abandoned," Li Chengyi said.
"There are many such examples. According to my teacher, that means the universe contains infinite mysteries, and no entity, no matter what, can ever fully investigate all the secrets. Because while you explore, the universe’s mysteries are also changing and growing at a rapid pace.
No one knows what lies behind powers like Death Energy and what their ultimate endpoint is," Yserine spoke in a solemn tone.
"You seem to have become quite profound," Li Chengyi said, surprised.
"No... it’s just a spur of the moment thought. Brother..." Yserine trailed off, as if hesitant to continue.
"What’s on your mind?" Li Chengyi was still flipping through the notebook with interest.
"You... possess many mysterious things, mysterious powers; have you ever thought about exploring their origins, rather than just following the path laid out for you?" Yserine asked.
"Explore the origins?" Li Chengyi was taken aback.
"Yes. Power is not without right or wrong. In the Black Sea, power itself has attributes. Like the study of Death Energy, if you want to enhance it, you must research the remains, thus being influenced by other things that the remains carry, and then proceed in a certain direction."
"So the notion that there is no right or wrong in power is in itself a paradox."
These words of Yserine clearly weren’t her own insights.
Li Chengyi was no fool. With the enhancement of his bloodline and the Holy Spirit Technique, both his reaction speed and memory had improved significantly.
Hearing these words, he seemed to grasp what Yserine was trying to convey.
"Thank you... Yserine." He could tell that she truly had his best interests at heart, which is why she offered this advice.
He had to decide whether to be a simple, charge-ahead warrior, or use everything at his disposal, including the Evil Flower, to carve his own path.
It was a difficult choice.
The former was easy, whereas the latter was much, much harder.
