Blind Spot -
Chapter 247 - 231 past three
Chapter 247: 231 past three
The air surged.
Breezes swept in through the surrounding windows of the guild hall, causing Li Chengyi’s robe to flutter slightly.
At this moment, he gazed upward at the scene above.
On a horizontal beam at the ceiling, he could barely make out a palm-sized box placed there.
’So it’s true... even in his dying moments, he didn’t forget to leave a clue for his own people. But why so secretive? Could it be that apart from their organization, there are other Blind Spot Individuals? Or, does this method of departure only allow a fixed number of people to leave? Is it not possible with too many?’
Li Chengyi’s mind quickly raced with guesses.
He estimated the height of the beam, bent his body slightly, and leaped upward.
Whoosh!
At that instant.
Particle streams, the color of wisteria, burst forth from the jet nozzles behind his arms and calves. A massive amount of particles formed a veil-like, beautiful aureole in mid-air, lifting him lightly into flight.
The sudden burst of auxiliary power left Li Chengyi somewhat flustered.
He quickly adjusted in mid-air, thrusting his arms upward to change direction. With some difficulty, he managed to avoid a collision with the ceiling.
After somersaulting a few times, he gradually got used to the propelling adjustments of his arms and calves.
This propulsion particle stream could, to his surprise, adjust direction and intensity according to his intentions.
’Impressive! I didn’t expect that after three evolutions, Wisteria Flowers would have this function! Even without strengthening overall qualities, this ability alone is quite valuable.’
After adjusting his posture, he floated slowly to the edge of the beam, reached out to take the black box placed on top, and then descended.
Click.
The box opened, revealing a folded, yellowed sheet of paper inside.
Li Chengyi carefully took out the paper and unfolded it.
With rough strokes, someone had drawn a series of comic-like instructions.
A person, holding a piece of black stone, places it within a triangular frame on a rooftop, then retreats to a distance.
Soon after, the triangular frame began to emit a faint glow.
The glow was indicated with rough dashed lines, its color uncertain.
The last image showed a door opening, an arched shape, also radiating light. At its center, there was a drawing of a key-like figure.
’The implication is that the key is inside this opened door?’ Li Chengyi roughly understood.
As for the black stone mentioned earlier, it involuntarily reminded him of the stone he had found on the Mud Monster.
Sure enough, upon flipping the paper over, there it was, an illustration of the Black Stone being extracted from inside a Mud Monster’s body.
"If this paper is genuine, then this key might be related to opening the invisible door..."
After tucking away the paper, Li Chengyi cast one final gaze at the mummified corpse and turned to leave through the exit.
Meow~
The striped cat was still calling out, causing Li Chengyi to pause in step.
He turned his head back.
"Coming with me?" he said softly.
The striped cat glanced up at him but did not stir; it rubbed its head against the dead man’s trouser leg, then lay down close by, resting against the corpse.
Li Chengyi paused for a moment, then stayed silent.
The cat had already provided enough clues. Next, he just needed to find the rooftop with the triangular frame, and everything would fall into place.
When he reached the door, he carefully observed the outside. There was no sign of the Armored Mud Monster.
Then he dashed out quietly and lightly leaped onto the street.
Whoosh!
Four wisteria-colored particle streams spurted out behind him, propelling him into the air.
He planned to survey from a high vantage point, searching quickly for a building with a triangular frame on the rooftop.
As his body lightly took flight, Li Chengyi felt as if held aloft by the wind, drifting upwards.
He looked around, and in just a few seconds, he had risen more than ten meters high.
And the height was still increasing.
Twenty meters.
Thirty meters.
Fifty meters.
Seventy meters!
Many buildings beneath him already sprawled at his feet, yet a few tall structures remained visible only up to their midsection.
Li Chengyi began by excluding the shorter buildings around him, then, as he rose higher, he methodically checked the taller ones.
Anything on the rooftops was clearly visible from above.
The howling of the wind grew louder, and the influence of the airflow increased, forcing him to repeatedly adjust the direction and intensity of the particle streams to prevent being blown off course.
Before long.
Suddenly a bright spot appeared in Li Chengyi’s field of view.
It was a building, roughly ten stories high.
The rooftop featured a sunroom, with some withered vine branches on the ground.
Right across from the sunroom, at the edge of the rooftop, stood a silver-gray triangular frame.
Its shape closely matched the one drawn on the paper!
’Found it!’ Li Chengyi’s heart leapt with joy as he swiftly changed direction, shooting towards it.
The powerful adaptability of the Shadow Dragon Bloodline allowed him to get used to this floating, flying motion within just a few minutes.
As he got closer.
Click.
Suddenly, a subtle sound came from somewhere below.
Li Chengyi looked down.
All was quiet beneath him, nothing in sight.
He narrowed his eyes, scanning the area to make sure he had missed nothing, then continued flying toward the rooftop.
Woooo~
Before he could touch down on the rooftop,
the piercing sound of an alarm went off once more.
Li Chengyi’s complexion changed. He turned around, and a blinding golden light exploded in front of him.
Glint Flash!
Bang!
He deliberately touched the golden light with his hand, causing a huge propulsion that accelerated him instantly, crashing down onto the rooftop floor like a bullet.
Just before landing, he rapidly ejected a stream of particles, performing a roll on the spot to gracefully reduce the impact force, and then dashed precisely into the sunroom doorway.
Hiss!
At that moment,
a massive crack slowly opened in the rocky ceiling above.
Within the crevice was that colossal eye that covered the entire city, a terror to behold.
The giant eye rotated slightly, gazing down at everything inside the city.
Soon, faint screams could be heard drifting from the corners, followed by things like black ashes floating up and flying toward it.
The giant eye lingered for a full five minutes before it gradually closed and disappeared into the rock face.
Li Chengyi had been hiding in a corner inside the sunroom the entire time. He too waited five minutes until the giant eye outside vanished before he slowly emerged.
He had also heard the screams just now.
"It seems there are new Blind Spot Individuals here."
Standing on the edge of the rooftop, he looked down.
Streets upon streets of abandoned, ancient blocks were shrouded in dark, dead silence.
Not a single light shone from the buildings, dark and gloomy with only the air of death.
Returning to the tripod, he examined it carefully.
About three meters tall, the stand had a stone pillar in the center, its surface a mix of indistinguishable lines and patterns carved in chaos.
Both the stand and the pillar were silver-gray, while the carvings were dark red.
In the middle of all the patterns, a space seemed to have been left empty, as if it were meant to hold something.
"That was smooth enough; found the key point straight away... next, to find the Mud Monster."
If he wasn’t mistaken, this stone should be of the same kind found inside the body of the Mud Monster.
Having pinpointed this location, Li Chengyi jumped down from the edge of the building.
He used a purple particle stream to cushion his descent and landed softly on the street a few seconds later.
Bang!
With a forceful stomp, he took off like a rocket, dashing along the street with breakneck speed.
Finding the Mud Monster as quickly as possible was his only thought at the moment.
One block, two blocks, three blocks, four...
Finally, on the sidewalk of the seventh block, he came across a Mud Monster.
The creature was bent over, stuffing a blackened male corpse into its belly.
While stuffing, it made gurgling noises.
Bang!
A dazzling golden light suddenly exploded behind it.
In an instant, the omnipotent Glint Flash ambushed and pierced through its entire body.
Streaks of golden light, like spikes, protruded from its back. Intense purification and heat caused its body to evaporate into large plumes of black smoke.
Glint Flash x4!
Four Glint Flashes exploded in succession.
Pfft!
The Mud Monster’s body crumbled like a cookie, turned into dust, and collapsed to the ground.
Most of its body dissolved into black smoke that drifted upwards. Amongst this, a piece of black stone fell with a clatter and rolled a few times before coming to a stop.
Li Chengyi bent down to pick up the stone.
He took a quick look at the remaining half of the male corpse and hurried back.
The dangers in Dark City were greater than he expected, so getting the key and finding the Invisible Door as soon as possible would be best.
Investigating Lien’s clues was necessary, but he had to find a way out first before taking any further action.
Not long after,
he returned to the office building rooftop.
Standing before the tripod, he placed the stone from his hand into the empty space on the pillar.
Click.
A faint click sounded.
The pillar suddenly began to rotate on its own.
Then, red lights flared up from the ground below it, turning as red as a slab of iron heated by a fierce flame.
Silently, the pillar sank into the red light and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Li Chengyi quickly retreated to create distance, focusing intently on the scene before him.
This scene involuntarily reminded him of the time he summoned the Secret Sword.
They were strikingly similar!
Slowly, from within the red light, a two-meter-tall silver-gray humanoid figure was rising up.
It was a broad humanoid shape entirely covered in thick silver-gray Armor.
The head and chest were filled with dense, honeycomb-like, dark red luminous holes, resembling a red-hot furnace with chaotic air holes, from which hot air continuously escaped.
The shoulders seemed to have two square boxes attached to them, out of which a continuous clicking of chains and gears could be heard.
If all this still seemed within the realm of technology, the six gray triangular shields floating around the humanoid figure were completely inexplicable phenomena.
These six triangular shields slowly orbited the figure, and patterns of red fluorescent symbols occasionally lit up on them.
Each shield bore different symbols.
Click.
The silver-gray figure’s arms hung down, and sharp, triple-edged claws shot out from its wrists.
"Who are you?" Li Chengyi attempted to communicate with the figure. At the same time, he tightened his grip on the Green Electric Greatsword in his hand.
Although he could manage the hundred-pound weight of the greatsword, it slowed his attack speed, so he chose to hold one sword with both hands rather than wield two.
After all, the sword was not very strong or durable.
