Blind Spot
Chapter 213 - 201 Encounters 1

Chapter 213: 201 Encounters 1

The vibration on the wall hadn’t completely dissipated.

Small chunks of cement kept falling off from above.

In the dim room, everyone was petrified, not daring to make a sound.

It was only when Li Chengyi grabbed the leader, tossing him carelessly onto the ground, that people were startled.

The man’s agonized howls shocked everyone back to their senses.

"Don’t... don’t hurt us!!"

Chen Daqi was the first to cry out. His face was pale with fear as he raised his hands in a gesture of surrender.

"We’ll talk! We’ll say anything!"

"Please don’t harm us, we’re just a group of common people struggling to survive here," an old man with a weathered face slowly walked out from the corner.

He was dressed in a thick robe, resembling someone who had draped a quilt over themselves, the bright fruit pattern clearly visible even in the dim light.

It looked like a child’s bedsheet.

"Strong man, whatever you want to ask, we’ll tell you everything we know, but please, you must not harm us," the old man pleaded earnestly.

"What’s his deal? Why is he exploiting newcomers to the Blind Spot?" Li Chengyi kicked the leader who was on the ground.

The guy was already close to his limit.

He had assumed that the other would enter Shadow Mode and therefore wouldn’t be weak. He had used a bit too much force.

But it turned out this guy was all bark and no bite—crumbling with just one touch.

"His name is He Fu. He is a Blind Spot Individual who entered Yunshan a long time ago," the old man sighed. "Although he often does bad things and exploits everyone who comes here, it was indeed him who first figured out how to survive in this place. The safety map was also initially pieced together by him."

"So, you willingly let him exploit you?" Li Chengyi raised an eyebrow.

"Of course not," the old man shook his head. "It’s been five years; we’ve paid back all we owed him. We’ve spent most of our time venturing out to find food and clothes. He hasn’t gone out in a long time, always staying here waiting for us to return."

"Why do you have to come back here? Can’t you find somewhere else to hide?" Li Chengyi asked.

"This place is so large, there can’t just be this one hiding spot, right?"

"You’re right, but we don’t know anything. He is the only one among us who has that ability to turn into a shadow. We can’t escape his tracking..." the old man sighed.

"So, you mean you don’t know where his ability comes from?" Li Chengyi frowned.

"Yes. We’re just a group of wretched people, living in hiding here, knowing nothing..." the old man replied.

"What’s your name?"

"Pu An. The simple Pu, the safe An," the old man answered.

"Earlier, Huang Wei mentioned a safety map; let me see your safety map," Li Chengyi said.

The safety map could be said to be the marker of the safe operational zone here.

This was something he had to obtain.

"Alright," Pu An turned and fumbled in the corner, quickly bringing out a crumpled piece of white paper.

The paper had a crude map drawn on it with red lines.

He handed over the map.

Li Chengyi took it, unfolding it to examine it closely, showing no caution that it might be dangerous.

His attention was so focused that he seemed to care little for the people around him.

Pu An’s pupils narrowed slightly as he gestured to a few others on the side behind their backs.

The men who were originally ready to pull out guns also restrained themselves and stopped moving.

The map depicted a house, with a cross-shaped street in the middle.

On the street, various sized red dots were marked.

"The size of the red dots indicates the danger level. There are also very few white dots, representing safety and supplies. But supplies aren’t available all the time; it depends on the cycle," Pu An explained.

"What do you live on? Where do you find food and drink?" Li Chengyi asked.

"Near here, there’s a supply point. Every weekend, we go there and wait for supplies to appear," Pu An answered.

"Wait for them to appear? What do you mean?" Li Chengyi asked, puzzled.

"It’s not easy to explain in a few words. Huang Wei, since it’s time for supplies, why don’t you take this strong man to see for himself, then he’ll understand," Pu An looked toward Huang Wei, who had been hiding and silent all along.

Ever since Li Chengyi and the leader had a conflict, she had quietly hidden in the corner.

Clearly knowing she was in trouble.

But now called out by Pu An, she no longer had an excuse to continue hiding and had to come out.

"Okay, Papa..." she replied.

"You must listen to the strong man. Whatever he wants to see, you show him, and don’t you dare be stubborn!" Pu An instructed.

"Oh..." Huang Wei nodded, approaching Li Chengyi. "Whatever you want to see, I’ll take you there."

Her attitude was completely different from before, somewhat timid, her head lowered, not daring to look at Li Chengyi.

"Let’s first go see your latest supply point," Li Chengyi said, interested in how they managed to survive here.

Because anyone with a normal IQ could tell that these people weren’t living off the supplies of newcomers.

They must have obtained something from within the Yunshan Blind Spot in order to survive this long.

"By the way, have you seen any new children come in?" Li Chengyi was about to leave but suddenly remembered the missing children cases in Yunshan County and casually asked.

"Children? We’ve never seen any children here," Pu An shook his head.

Li Chengyi looked at the others.

They too shook their heads in fear, indicating they had never seen any.

Convinced they weren’t lying and harboring no Evil Thoughts toward him, Li Chengyi then turned and signaled for Huang Wei to lead the way.

The two of them, one after the other, exited through the small gate.

The outside was still shrouded in fog.

This survivor community was located at the corner of the crossroads, with paths leading to two different streets on either side.

Li Chengyi looked up at the surroundings; the fog seemed to have thinned, allowing him to make out the scenery a little farther away.

"We’re going to the supply point first; please follow me this way," Huang Wei, walking tentatively ahead, led the way toward the left block.

Li Chengyi paused, looking around.

He remembered that he had come from the right side of this place before.

Now, walking to the left, he was heading deeper into Yunshan.

He quickly caught up with Huang Wei.

The two of them walked forward along the center of the street.

Sparsely parked on both sides of the street were electric scooters and motorcycles.

All were of quite a retro style, and each seat was covered with a thin layer of pale ash.

An old-fashioned utility pole passed by on their left, the wires above it hanging with a few pieces of unidentifiable white cloth, swaying in the wind.

"Will you... kill us?" Huang Wei suddenly asked out of nowhere as they walked.

"Why would I kill you?" Li Chengyi countered, "What good would it do me to kill you?"

"Is that so..." Huang Wei’s shoulders noticeably relaxed, her once taut nerves evidently eased by his words.

"Are you very afraid?" Li Chengyi asked.

"A little," Huang Wei answered honestly, "but not too much... The leader was always pressing us. Actually, everyone breathed a sigh of relief in secret when he died. It’s just..."

"Just what?"

"Just that, without him, we don’t know what to do next... There is a supply point here, and only he could obtain it using that ability," Huang Wei replied.

"I see," Li Chengyi understood. No wonder, after he killed their leader, these people had such strange reactions.

"By the way, do you know where to find books in this place?" he asked again.

"Books... Some people have them in their homes. I’ve seen them in some houses. There’s also the library. That’s deep inside the area; I’ve been there once and saw from a distance that there are lots of books inside," Huang Wei replied.

"The library..." Li Chengyi was about to ask further.

"We’re here," Huang Wei suddenly spoke.

She stopped in front of the entrance to an apartment building.

The entrance was narrow and old, with a faint mist drifting about.

"This is the closest, safest supply point. I’ll take you to see," Huang Wei said, taking the initiative to step inside.

Li Chengyi observed the surroundings to ensure there were no issues, then followed her into the stairwell.

The concrete stairs felt oddly slanted when stepped upon.

As he approached the white walls, he saw that they were covered with all sorts of messy advertisement numbers.

Locksmith, plumbing repair, moving services, loan offers—everything was there.

Some ads were even layered on top of one another, making them unreadable.

"We have to go up from here, and we have to be as quiet as possible. Any noise might disrupt the supply process. So be careful, and stay silent," Huang Wei whispered a reminder.

"Okay," Li Chengyi nodded.

"Also, there are a few books here you can check out later to see if they’re what you need," she added.

After saying this, she climbed the stairs with practiced ease.

All the way to the third layer.

At a red security door on the left, they stopped.

Then, she made a shushing gesture to Li Chengyi, signaling the need for absolute silence.

Reaching out her hand, Huang Wei grasped the door handle and gently pulled outward.

Hiss...

The security door wasn’t locked and was gently pulled open a crack.

The crack slowly widened.

The interior of the living room became visible.

White floor tiles, white walls.

In the center, there was an old square dining table covered with a white cloth.

On the right wall was a display cabinet with various small decorative components.

And above, there swung a slowly rotating gray ceiling fan.

To Li Chengyi’s surprise, there were actually people here!

Seated on a brown couch in the living room, facing away from them, was a chubby middle-aged woman wearing a white apron.

The woman had pale skin and a kind smile on her face while her plump hands nimbly knitted yarn continuously.

From the side entrance, Li Chengyi and Huang Wei could see her face.

Her eyes were squinted into two smiling lines, and she could hardly see anything through them.

She didn’t seem to react to their entrance.

Huang Wei tapped Li Chengyi and pointed towards the knitted item the woman was working on.

Li Chengyi understood and looked in that direction.

He realized that the woman was knitting what seemed to be... an animal?

Soon enough, after a few minutes.

The woman finished with the last thread of yarn.

As she let go with both hands, a yarn chicken flapped out of her embrace and landed on the floor.

Cluck cluck cluck cluck~~~

The hen flapped its wings and let out a clucking sound.

"..." Although Li Chengyi had seen many odd things within the Blind Spot, this sight still left him somewhat speechless.

A flamboyantly colorful yarn chicken, about the size of a watermelon, clucked and flapped its wings on the ground.

The scene felt a little weird.

Plop.

Suddenly, the hen laid an egg.

A standard-sized yarn egg fell out from under it.
