Chapter 210: Chapter 200: You Didn’t Take Good Care of Yourself for Him (First Update)
"Hold on!" Tong Airui’s bloodshot eyes fixed on Yi Luowa’s swollen right cheek. The poor lighting earlier had kept him from noticing, but now it was clear. "Did your sister-in-law get hurt?"
"Her face is swollen, and her leg probably has injuries too. She jumped off the car herself..."
"Are you talking to Fourth Brother?!" Yi Luowa was well aware it was Tong Airui who sent people to rescue her. Her heart swelled with relief. When she saw Dapeng still speaking with Tong Airui, she temporarily forgot her pain. She hadn’t heard his voice all day and desperately longed to.
Dapeng nodded.
Yi Luowa rubbed her arms, aching from being tied up, and looked at Dapeng with a hopeful expression. Her eyes seemed to say, "Could you let me speak with Tong Airui for a moment?"
Tong Airui’s heart ached as he watched Yi Luowa on the screen. In a deep voice, he ordered, "Take your sister-in-law to the hospital immediately. No matter how late, call me as soon as there are results!"
"Got it, don’t worry, Fourth Brother," Dapeng replied.
Tong Airui ended the call and stormed out of the room, kicking the door open.
"Dapeng, can I speak with Fourth Brother?" Yi Luowa, seeing that Dapeng was being oblivious, had to ask directly.
"Fourth Brother hung up just now. He said..." Dapeng repeated what Tong Airui had said earlier.
Yi Luowa hadn’t shed a tear through her capture or from the pain racking her body after her fall, but now, hearing Tong Airui’s words, she began crying. "You shouldn’t have let him see me like this. It’ll only distract him."
"Fourth Brother is like a god in my heart. He’s not an ordinary person. He’ll definitely keep his emotions in check, Sister-in-law. Let’s get you to the hospital." Dapeng raised his hand slightly, signaling a nearby SUV to drive over.
"Save Chen Xuan first. He’s still tied up," Yi Luowa protested, not getting in the car, still worried about Mi Chenxuan.
"That fool Xuan freed himself. He’s on his way here. Big Brother, Third Brother, Fifth Brother, and Seventh Brother are also on their way. Let’s head back; we’ll meet them on the road." Dapeng opened the car door and helped Yi Luowa in. As he glanced down, he noticed several tears in her pants. At one spot, blood had seeped through the fabric. His heart jolted, and he quickly asked, "Sister-in-law, are your injuries serious?"
Yi Luowa shook her head. "No big deal, just surface wounds. I’ve raced cars before. I know how to jump in a way that minimizes the damage."
Dapeng, full of guilt, murmured, "I came too late and made you suffer."
In truth, Dapeng hadn’t been late. His ambush had been set up where the kidnappers planned to switch vehicles. He just hadn’t expected Yi Luowa to jump from the car to save herself. Luckily, he’d stationed scouts along the road. Otherwise, even if she’d managed to jump out, her injured state would’ve made her easy to recapture.
"Really, it’s nothing. I’ve been injured plenty before. These wounds are minor. Let’s hurry back now; we don’t want to keep everyone waiting." Yi Luowa smiled. It had been a close call, but she had survived.
The car hadn’t gone more than a kilometer before they encountered a convoy heading their way. Dapeng honked, bringing both vehicles to a halt. Mi Chenxuan was the first to jump out, running toward their car, his voice choking with emotion, "Little girl, are you okay?"
"Aren’t I standing here just fine?" Yi Luowa teased, smiling as she gestured to herself.
"You shouldn’t have saved me." Mi Chenxuan scanned her from head to toe. "What happened to your face? Did they hit you?"
"Yeah, one slap. But I got my own back—I kicked him. Even if he’s rotting in hell now, he’ll still be a lame ghost." Yi Luowa’s grin suggested she hadn’t come out of it worse for wear.
"Next time, if something like this..." Mi Chenxuan gritted his teeth and spat to ward off bad luck. "Forget it! There won’t be a next time."
While Mi Chenxuan was chastising himself, Tong Aino ran over, shoving him aside impatiently. "Sister-in-law, are you hurt anywhere?"
"I’m fine," Yi Luowa said, keeping a straight face. "But don’t tell Dad, Mom, or Grandma and Grandpa. It’ll only worry them. Also, don’t tell Ai Ni—she’s still sick. I’ll treat my wounds at the tribe, and by tomorrow, I’ll look as good as new."
"Something this major? How could Dad and Mom not find out? They’re already on their way here."
Yi Luowa rubbed her forehead. "I must’ve caused so much trouble for everyone."
"What are you talking about!" Tong Aino glared at her. "This isn’t your fault! If anyone’s to blame, it’s my brother. He made enemies, and they targeted you for revenge."
"Move over; I need to check Fourth Sister-in-law’s injuries," someone called. Always a bit slow on the uptake, their seventh brother nudged Tong Aino aside and squeezed through.
Mi Chenshuo craned his neck to peer into the car. "Seventh Brother, take it easy. Don’t hurt Luowa," he shouted.
"Why don’t you do it then?" someone teased, glancing back at him.
"If I could, would I need you?" Mi Chenshuo snapped, playfully slapping the speaker.
Lance, standing at the back, spoke in a low voice, "Enough fooling around. The lighting here isn’t great. Bandage her up for now. We’ll do a proper checkup when we get back to the tribe."
Seeing how much her family cared, Yi Luowa smiled shyly. "I’m not hurt, just a little sore. But seeing all of you, none of it hurts anymore."
Connie, sobbing, walked over. "Luowa—I was so worried. My palms are still sweaty."
"Wipe them on Tong Fifth Brother." Yi Luowa tapped her outstretched hand, laughing. "Let’s all get into the cars. We need to get back before Mom and Dad arrive. I have to change clothes; I don’t want them seeing me like this."
Dapeng gave Yi Luowa a deep look. Fourth Brother had chosen well!
"Shouldn’t we check you first?" someone asked, raising an eyebrow.
Yi Luowa shook her head, smiling. "By the time you’re done checking me, it’ll be daybreak."
"You don’t need to put me down like that," the man grumbled, climbing into her car. "I’ll treat your wound on the way back. The rest of you, get in your own cars. Let’s move."
Connie grabbed a medical kit and joined them. "I’ll stay with Luowa. Everyone else, get into the cars."
The convoy quickly set off. Noticing the blood-stained tear in Yi Luowa’s pants, the man tending to her frowned. "You call this ’no big deal’? This kind of bleeding suggests a pretty serious cut."
"It’s just a scrape," Yi Luowa said, trying to move her leg. Seeing his critical stare, she teased, "Dr. Mak, don’t look at me like that. I’m not here to steal your job."
"You’re injured like this and can still joke. Do you even have a sense of self-preservation?" Mak Ze sounded exasperated as he picked up a pair of scissors to cut open her pant leg.
Connie gasped at the sight of Yi Luowa’s wound, inhaling sharply.
Yi Luowa hurried to cover Connie’s eyes. "Don’t look."
"Luowa, does it hurt?" Connie knew it was a stupid question, but she didn’t know what else to say.
"Not at all. I’ve gotten used to injuries while driving. This is nothing to me." Yi Luowa quickly changed the topic, trying to lighten the mood. "Tong Fifth Brother’s outfit today is pretty unique. Did you pick it out?"
Trying to divert attention from both Connie’s worry and her own pain, Yi Luowa forced a smile. Though the wound throbbed relentlessly, she refused to let it show.
Mak Ze began carefully wrapping her wound with gauze. "This needs stitching. For now, I’ll just clean it up," he muttered seriously.
Yi Luowa chuckled. "Don’t take your frustration with Fourth Brother out on me. Wait till he gets back—I’ll make sure he knocks some sense into you."
"If Fourth Brother returns, he’ll probably scold you first," Mak Ze countered, finishing up his bandaging.
Yi Luowa pouted. "Why would he scold me?"
"Because you didn’t protect yourself properly."
Sighing, Yi Luowa admitted, "True...I didn’t take care of myself. I left him distracted."
Seeing she took his jab seriously, Mak Ze quickly softened his tone. "I’m just messing with you. Fourth Brother would never actually get mad at you."
Yi Luowa turned to stare out the window, her thoughts drifting. Would Tong Airui blame her?
At that moment—
Tong Airui, currently arguing with Emperor Haotian, couldn’t be angrier at his enemies for endangering Yi Luowa. His heart ached for her; how could he ever hold her at fault?
"Captain Aldrich, you’re breaking the terms of our agreement. I demand you cease the bombing immediately!" Emperor Haotian shouted, his face red with anger.
"Show me your bastard brother Du Ma’s corpse, and I’ll stop," Tong Airui replied icily. "Only now do I realize why your civil war has dragged on so long. It’s all because of you—your indecisiveness, forcing your people into this chaos. If this hadn’t spilled over into Summer Wu, I wouldn’t even bother with this mess!"
Furious, Emperor Haotian struggled to catch his breath. "I only asked you to put an end to this war—not to kill my brother!"
Tong Airui chuckled coldly. "Killing him wasn’t my intention. But he went after my family. It’s his own fault for wanting to die."
Emperor Haotian froze. "What did you just say?! He targeted your family? That’s impossible!"
Shooting him a sharp, penetrating glare, Tong Airui replied, "I don’t need to lie to you. After failing to harm my family, he even tried to negotiate. Do you know what he offered? Fifteen cities of southern territories—one-third of your kingdom. He handed them to me like they were nothing."
Clenching his fists, Emperor Haotian trembled with rage. This despicable brother of his—he’d go to any lengths to depose him! Did he really think winning this war would guarantee him the throne?
Tong Airui added coldly, "Want to hear his other condition for peace? He added your head—and the head of your queen—to the deal."
As Tong Airui finished speaking, a dull thud sounded from outside the door. Emperor Haotian rushed out.
"Zhi Lan! Zhi Lan, wake up!" he called out desperately.
Tong Airui strode out after him, spotting Emperor Haotian holding an unconscious woman in his arms. Her face was veiled in golden silk, revealing only her closed, enchanting eyes. Tong Airui frowned. This woman was undoubtedly a femme fatale—brothers had been waging war for years because of her.
"Master, Du Ma just received reinforcements!" Yuan Hang approached hastily.
Tong Airui raised an eyebrow. "Who’s backing him?"
