Chapter 209: Chapter 199: Wrath of Thunder (Three Updates)
"What kind of joke is this? Speak properly!" Tong Aino gripped the phone tightly.
Mi Chenxuan said irritably, "I took the little girl to the place where she first met Fourth Brother. I was teasing her about recreating the scene. Just as I stood on the cliff edge, more than a dozen men rushed over with guns pointed at me. They demanded that the little girl go with them. Fearing they’d kill me, she went with them..."
"What the hell were you thinking?" Tong Aino was so angry he wanted to curse. "Which direction did their car go?"
"Southward, toward Nanwu. They tied me up earlier, but I managed to free myself. I’m already chasing them. You need to get people on it immediately and block them!" Mi Chenxuan hung up after saying that, slamming the gas pedal to the floor. No matter what, he had to get the little girl back; otherwise, he’d have no way to face Fourth Brother.
Tong Aino thought for a moment and first called the Mule to locate Yi Luowa’s position immediately. Then, he called Lance, who urgently gathered the tribal warriors to guard every checkpoint.
"Stop the car!" After making the two calls, Tong Aino yelled at Connie, "What kind of driving is this?"
Connie slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt. "I’m going to save Luowa. This is the way to Nanwu."
Tong Aino glanced at the scenery outside and stepped out of the car. Despite the urgency of the situation, she had managed to keep such calm, even knowing to switch course toward Nanwu.
Connie saw him walk around the front of the car to her side and quickly moved from the driver’s seat to the front passenger seat. "Fifth Brother, call Uncle. I know you all can definitely save Luowa, but the more people, the better."
Tong Aino started the engine, tilting his head to look at her. "Buckle up!"
Connie quickly fastened her seatbelt. "Fifth Brother, how about I drive while you call Uncle?"
"Someone will definitely call my dad. The only thing you can do right now is shut up, understood!" Tong Aino’s mood was at its worst. If one of his older brothers had been home, this wouldn’t have happened. Now, the only thing he could do was bring Luowa back as soon as possible.
Inside the speeding vehicle, Yi Luowa sat with her hands tied behind her back and her eyes covered with a black cloth. All she could hear was the sound of the wind howling past the windows. Being trapped in darkness and unable to hear anything was terrifying. Yi Luowa forced herself to stay calm. She knew they would come to rescue her, but waiting for others was far less reliable than rescuing herself.
"Anyone still breathing?" Yi Luowa asked loudly.
A mocking laugh came from not far ahead. "In this state, you haven’t pissed your pants yet? Admirable courage! Such a shame... this pretty little girl won’t live much longer."
"Boss, wouldn’t it be a waste to just kill her like this? Why not find a place to have some fun first?"
"Screw you! You dirty, gutsy bastard! If you don’t want to die, keep driving! Catching her was sheer luck for us. For all we know, the entire Xiawu nation is chasing us right now."
Yi Luowa listened closely to their conversation. After the boss finished berating the other man, she said, "Since you know who I am, I’d advise you to let me go. I guarantee you’ll walk out of Xiawu alive. Or, we can make a deal. Whatever the person who sent you to capture me offered, I’ll double it. And I can promise you’ll live to spend the money."
"Shut her up!" the boss roared.
"Are you afraid I’ll shake your men’s resolve? Have you even thought about your crew? If you kill me, you’re not going to live to enjoy the money that person gave you. But if you take my offer, you’ll have a peaceful life ahead." Yi Luowa spoke quickly as she heard someone walking toward her.
The man with the tape hesitated, turning back to look at the burly boss with a face full of scars.
The boss kicked him hard, grabbing the tape and sealing Yi Luowa’s mouth. "Let me tell you all—our only option is to kill this woman. If she doesn’t die, our families will!"
"Boss, why don’t we just kill her now? Keeping her is dead weight," someone suggested.
Soon, the majority inside the bus agreed that they should kill Yi Luowa immediately.
"You idiots!" The boss snarled. "We haven’t even left Xiawu yet. If we’re discovered, we can use her as a human shield. Ten kilometers ahead is the Nanwu checkpoint. Swap vehicles there. Throw away all the guns—don’t let anyone spot us as a gang of criminals. Make them think you’re a group of tourists. Screw this up, and I’ll personally end you!"
Yi Luowa frowned deeply. She understood now—once they crossed Xiawu’s borders, it would be the end of her. Who hated her this much? Yi Lingfei? No, she didn’t have the resources. Shiqing? She wouldn’t dare. Yi Luowa couldn’t figure out whom she had offended so gravely.
"Damn, I almost forgot the boss’s orders. Quickly, take some photos—alive and dead. We’ll need both."
Someone came up, pulling off the black cloth over Yi Luowa’s eyes. The camera’s shutter clicked repeatedly. Taking advantage of the moment, Yi Luowa scanned her surroundings. She was seated by the window, which could be opened.
"Damn it, stay still! I can’t get a single clear shot of your face!" the photographer cursed, slapping Yi Luowa hard across her right cheek.
The force slammed her head into the window. Using her head, she pressed against it while struggling to sit upright. Just as everyone thought she was merely adjusting herself, Yi Luowa suddenly bit down on the window latch, using her strength to pull it open. Simultaneously, she kicked the man who had hit her—with precision, striking him below the waist.
He collapsed with a scream, clutching his lower abdomen. Yi Luowa used every bit of energy she had left, opening the window halfway. The commotion drew others toward her, but the injured man happened to block the aisle. The boss grabbed his collar to pull him aside, but he refused to move, writhing in pain. This delay bought Yi Luowa precious time. She forced the window fully open, not caring about the car’s speed. Whether she lived or died, she preferred a chance of survival. Without hesitation, Yi Luowa shut her eyes and leapt out.
After hitting the ground, Yi Luowa ignored the screams of pain coursing through her body and rolled to the roadside. Though her hands were tied behind her back, she used a nearby rock to force herself up.
The sound of screeching brakes pierced the air. Yi Luowa glanced back briefly, then began limping toward the direction they came from.
"Boom—" Before Yi Luowa had run a hundred meters, a loud explosion erupted behind her. Turning her head slightly, she saw the bus engulfed in flames, screams echoing from within.
"Boom—" Another explosion followed, and then, silence.
Yi Luowa stood frozen, staring at the raging fire. Amid the flames, a tall figure emerged. The sky had darkened by now, and she could only make out the man’s impeccably sharp uniform belonging to the Divine Eagle unit. He strode toward her swiftly.
"Four..." The word "Brother" hadn’t even escaped her lips when he stood before her. Yi Luowa’s face shifted—this man was unfamiliar to her.
"Fourth Sister-in-law, I’m sorry I came late," he said apologetically.
"Thank you." Yi Luowa forced a faint smile, though faint disappointment flickered in her heart.
Behind him, a group of soldiers approached in unison. Stopping before her, they all raised their right hands in perfect synchrony. "Fourth Sister-in-law, we apologize for your ordeal!"
Yi Luowa burst out laughing, "You’re going to frighten me like this."
Sitting before a computer, Tong Airui’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. "Silly girl, even now, you can still laugh."
"Master..." Yuan Hang stepped into the room.
Tong Airui lowered his gaze. "What is it?"
"A messenger from Haotian’s Second Prince requests an audience."
"Kill him!" Tong Airui commanded coldly, suppressing his tears.
"Master?"
"Did you not hear me? If he dares harm my wife, he must face the consequences. Launch a full-scale attack immediately. Unrelenting, twenty-four hours of continuous strikes. I want his hideout obliterated beyond recognition."
"Master, please calm down. If the Second Prince dies, how will we answer to King Haotian? The king only wishes to spare his brother’s life and stop him from waging further internal wars."
"To hell with him!" Tong Airui slammed the table. "My wife came out unscathed, but if she hadn’t? I’d bury all of Haotian with her! Kill them all, leave no one alive!"
Pointing at his chest, Tong Airui yelled at Yuan Hang, "This suffocating anger—you have no idea! My wife was humiliated, and I couldn’t even rescue her myself! If I don’t avenge her, am I still worthy of being called a man?"
Yuan Hang stood motionless; though he understood the master’s pain, the broader picture couldn’t be ignored.
"Get out! I want the sounds of warfare in three minutes!" Tong Airui barked forcefully.
With a heavy sigh, Yuan Hang turned and left quickly. At the doorway, he glanced back to see the master’s hand gently caressing the computer screen. No longer ruthless, his expression softened—a tenderness reserved solely for his wife, so tender it tugged painfully at the heart.
Outside, dozens of Divine Eagle officials stood waiting. Seeing Yuan Hang emerge, they all surrounded him.
Yuan Hang glanced at his watch. "Begin the full-scale assault at seven!"
The officers exchanged uneasy glances.
Yuan Hang’s temper flared. "What? They dared to harm our lady, and you still want to hold back? Thank your stars she’s safe; otherwise, the entire Haotian Kingdom would pay the price!"
Inside the room, Tong Airui listened, a slight smile playing at his lips. His gaze remained fixed on Yi Luowa’s image on the screen, his tone soft. "My dear wife, I’ll avenge you. When I return, I’ll make it up to you properly."
"Fourth Brother, what are you saying?" A muffled voice came through the earpiece of the young man standing in front of Yi Luowa.
Tong Airui cleared his throat. "Dapeng, tell your sister-in-law I don’t dare to speak to her now. Let me take revenge first—when I return, I’ll accept whatever punishment she sees fit."
Dapeng chuckled, adjusting the miniature camera on his chest. "Take one last look; I’m taking our sister-in-law back now."
