Beyond the Apocalypse -
Chapter 167: Secret plan
Chapter 167: Secret plan
The instant Amara’s feet touched the ground, she burst forward at full speed like a cannon. The fact that she was out of the Strong Hammer Military Base did not mean for even a second that she was safe, as she could feel over three dozen angelic eyes focused on her, and many more powerful auras were emerging from the base. It seemed that every single angel in the fortress was set on hunting the Royal Guard.
If that wasn’t enough, the aura of Orion and the massive angel with metallic wings was approaching at a shocking speed. If they managed to get close enough, there was no way she could survive such power, and she was sure Orion would not grant her a quick death.
"Run!" That word echoed inside Amara’s mind with such might that it took over every ounce of her existence, making her Force and physical strength explode as she ran with everything she had.
The Royal Guard’s speed was beyond shocking for someone who had yet to reach Level 6, as she advanced more than a hundred meters every second. Her eyes aimed at the paved road surrounded by a large forest on the left and tall, rocky cliffs on the right. While heading into the forest might seem like the best path, the woman chose to stay on the paved road, prioritizing speed over losing track of the soldiers.
None of the angels could match Amara’s full power speed, and even those like Kor and Orion could only equal the woman, making this chase seem futile. However, that was where the Mages among the angels came into play as a myriad of spheres of energy fell from the sky onto the path of the Royal Guard.
"¡BOOM!" "¡BOOM!" "¡BOOM!" "¡BOOM!" "¡BOOM!" "¡BOOM!" "¡BOOM!"
Amara’s eyes narrowed as she felt dozens of spells falling toward her, forcing her to maneuver among the explosions. If that wasn’t enough, the paved road constantly changed due to the power of spells, with holes appearing out of nowhere or earthen spears rising from the ground.
All those spells hindered the Royal Guard’s movement and drastically reduced her speed. The young woman couldn’t help but frown as the delay in speed meant that the rest of the angels were drawing nearer.
Despite the danger, she kept moving forward, the muscles in her legs burning as she pushed on the path, advancing thousands of meters into the paved road. If she had changed her path and gone into the forest, the chances of losing the angels would have been higher, but the Royal Guard did not deviate from her path.
Amara’s focus heightened with every second that passed, to the point that the world began to turn dark. The only things her senses told her were the spells falling from the sky and the changes in the ground beneath her feet.
More than eighty angels followed after the woman like a pack of ravenous beasts, full of killing intent, but even if they did not utter it out loud, there was awe as they saw the skills and finesse displayed by the Royal Guard’s moves.
She was not a Champion, yet her moves embarrassed even those angels at Level 10. Of course, the might of the Royal Guard only made the angels killing intent burn with even more strength. There was no way members of Heaven would allow anyone else to show moves superior to them.
After five minutes, a sense of fatigue began to assault Amara, as the power of the Demonic Combustion potion was already dying down. If that wasn’t enough, she felt a searing heat flood the sky and noticed dozens of small orbs of white fire appear.
"Fire Rain!" Orion’s voice echoed, full of hatred and rage, as she manipulated the orbs of fire to fall onto the woman that had scarred her face.
"¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!" "¡Boom!"
The power in each orb was small, but dozens fell simultaneously. Amara did her best to dodge the explosions and move forward, but one of them landed right next to her right foot, injuring the woman, making her lose her footing, and throwing her figure to the ground.
A pained expression appeared on the Royal Guard as she felt her bloody ankle, but she did not have time to think about the wound as she saw a figure jumping over a dozen meters into the air.
"Celestial Dive!" Kor roared like a divine entity, his entire body glowing with silver light. His burned wings propelled him into the air, allowing him to dive toward the young woman with a monstrous momentum.
Amara saw the massive bastard sword in the angel’s hands that intended to cut her in half. Yet, instead of fear or resignation, a cold smile appeared on the Royal Guard’s face.
"Aegis Charge!" A powerful voice emerged from the forest as if responding to the Royal Guard’s smile. A figure flashed forward the next instant, intercepting the angel’s diving sword with her shield covered in red energy.
Kor couldn’t believe what was happening. Not only did a woman appear out of nowhere and intercept his most powerful attack, but the strength behind the shield was so massive that it made his arms tremble before sending him flying away into the forest!
Freya’s entire body glowed with Force and totemic energy. After sending Kor flying, she stood before Amara, acting as a barrier between the Royal Guard and the nearly one hundred angels.
Despite the massive numerical disadvantage, the viking stood resolute, her eyes glowing with coldness and killing intent as she glanced at the angels.
She was a single person, yet Freya’s aura made the angels that were running like crazy freeze. Her power was nothing short of monstrous, and she was able to send flying away the strongest Warrior in their group as if he were nothing.
Orion was at the back of the group, shock appearing in her eye as she saw the figure appear on the battlefield with confusion. "A viking?"
The angel noble recognized Freya’s kind due to their tribal tattoos and clothes, but all that faded from her mind as she turned back to the area of the forest from where the young woman appeared, feeling a sudden burst of energy.
"Disperse!" Orion shouted with all her strength, but it was too late as a massive blue and red sphere nearly five meters large rose to the sky, positioning itself right above the densely packed angels.
"Inferno Storm!" Jormungandr’s voice echoed inside the forest just as the massive lightning and fire sphere exploded.
"BOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM!"
Massive bolts of lightning wreathed in flames struck the ground, igniting everything they touched. They blasted to pieces the angels that were near and sent the rest flying away with severe burns and electric wounds. If that wasn’t enough, the release of energy created a powerful shockwave that knocked back and disoriented most of the angels.
Orion was right outside the range of the destruction, so she was safe, but her eyes were full of utter and absolute awe and shock as she saw the destructive power of that spell. "That was a High Champion Spell!"
The angel noble couldn’t believe what she just saw. The energy needed for a High Champion Spell was immense, and it would have required a long casting time, so it couldn’t just happen from one moment to the next.
A flash of enlightenment appeared in the woman’s eyes as she glanced at the Royal Guard in the distance and looked around. "She guided us here. It’s an ambush!"
Those words shocked the angels, who were still trying to recover from the massive explosion. However, the information did little to help them as they saw 19 men and women clad in black armor and robes flashing toward them from the forest, emanating a devil scent.
If that wasn’t enough, five more emerged from the tall, rocky cliffs. They were fewer, but their auras were much more powerful. Each of them glowing with the light of Runic Sets unleashed a much more potent bloodline force.
The nineteen soldiers were the men and women who had gained a Mortal Tier Devil Bloodline, and the other five stronger warriors were the Royal Guard of the Xaos Kingdom. All glanced at the young woman on the ground, and there was pure awe and respect in their eyes as they understood just how dangerous this mission had been for her.
A single mistake or flaw, and Amara would have been caught by Orion and her angels, suffering a fate worse than death. Still, she succeeded, enraging the angel noble to the point she led all her angelic troops after the assassin.
The bloodline soldiers and Royal Guard had spent the last few weeks preparing for this moment, training day and night for this ambush, to kill all the angels without needing to massacre the rest of the Strong Hammer Military Base!
