Chapter 165: Assassination on Strong Hammer Military Base (IV)

Amara’s eyes were as sharp as needles. Her vital signs were so low that she barely had a heartbeat. The young woman’s soul was filled with nothing but absolute focus as she glanced at the massive military base on top of a large plateau.

Unless the Royal Guard was ready to scale hundreds of meters of rock, there was only one path into the military base—the northern wall. Her eyes narrowed as she saw the dozens of floating rocks around the area, all of them constantly illuminating the area and the dozens of angels and human soldiers patrolling the perimeter.

These floating rocks were special devices put in place by the angels, and the spies had already informed the Silent Wind Military Base about them, so they did not take the Royal Guard by surprise, but something else disturbed her.

The young woman couldn’t help but frown as she saw the enhanced activity around the wall. Usually, only ten soldiers monitored the walls during the night, yet now there were over thirty, most of them angels and all very powerful.

’Was I discovered?’ Amara immediately discarded that idea, as the detailed plan was something only members of the Royal Guard knew. Even if they had found out, it would make more sense to plan an ambush for her rather than reinforce security.

The young woman noted the fortified security but did not let it cloud her judgment. It would certainly make it harder to get in, but it also meant she would face less resistance once inside.

A frontal burst would end with the Royal Guard burst to smithereens, but her plan was something else. She took a deep breath, pulled two bottles from a space ring, and swallowed them. These were no ordinary potions, but Rank 2 Alchemy Potions named Superior Speed and Minor Invisibility, made by Jormungandr, especially for the young woman.

Immediately, a burst of power coursed through Amara’s body as her figure seemed to meld with the world around her. After the potions took effect, Amara channeled the strength of her Runic Set and Force, making shadows cover her figure. Her presence faded before flashing forward.

The Royal Guard dashed at a shocking speed, yet her steps did not make the slightest sound, and her movement did not disturb the flow of the air, making it seem as if she were moving in a completely different dimension.

Amara moved over one hundred meters with every step thanks to the enhancement of her speed through her Force skill, Runic Set, and Superior Speed Potion. Her movements were graceful, and none of the soldiers or angels noticed her presence as she calculated the right moment when she was out of everybody’s field of view to jump over the five-meter-tall wall and reach the other side.

The moment her foot touched the inside of the Strong Hammer Military Base, the focus and instincts of the Royal Guard only heightened as she continued moving, getting deeper into the base and away from the heavily guarded wall.

Although spies had monitored the state of the Strong Hammer Military Base for quite some time, they had done it from the outside, and the young woman had no idea where Orion, the leader of the angels, was located.

Luckily, by using angelic physiology, Vlad deduced that the most likely location was the highest level of the officer quarters, above all others. Angels care deeply about status, and someone like Orion would not dare to stay in the same residence as others, as that would make her a source of mockery.

Amara had already memorized a map of the Strong Hammer Military Base, so she quickly flashed across the streets, soon reaching the core of the military base, where an isolated villa was created. Two human guards looked after the area, and there was no other surveillance. It seemed they did not think anyone would be so crazy as to enter the place where the strongest warriors rested.

The Royal Guard silently entered the villa. Her eyes headed to the building that stood at the center of everything, her focus on the highest level. It did not take long for the woman to reach the entrance.

It would be weird if an invisible figure opened a door, but Amara did not worry. An angel had just returned to the building, and as this one opened the door, she immediately flashed past the man. The angel did not detect anything and simply walked forward.

Immediately, Amara flashed to the staircase, her figure melding with the surroundings and cloaked in shadows, making her no different than a specter as she dashed higher and higher before finally reaching the hall to the penthouse.

It was only at this point that Amara’s dash finally ended as she hid in a corner of the hall, staring at the door that led into the penthouse. The Royal Guard felt two powerful auras inside the place and a weak one. While she could not be certain, she was confident one belonged to Orion, as there was no way an angel of her status would allow someone else to stand above her.

If Amara opened the doors, it would alert the people inside, so she waited in a corner covered by shadows. Amara took small breaths, keeping her heartbeat down and her focus steady.

Dashing through the Strong Hammer Military Base was extremely dangerous, yet the waiting put the greatest strain on the young woman’s mind.

’Will I be caught?’ ’Should I dash now?’ ’If I wait, will I lose my chance?’

All those questions began to arise in the young woman’s mind, the tension and stress accumulating and urging her body to move forward, but she could not fall to those basic instincts. It was paramount for an assassin to keep focus and calm at all times, and it was here that the last couple of weeks paid off as it allowed the young woman to maintain her composure.

Tension and anxiety kept accumulating and rising every second inside Amara’s heart, but she only focused on the door.

....

Orion sat on a pristine white couch, her radiant and beautiful figure and her wings making her resemble a gorgeous divine entity. Her perfect face was full of boredom as she stared at the small man in front of her.

"Lady Orion, I beg you to reconsider. An alliance like that will be catastrophic for the people of the Constantine Country," General Omar said in a tone full of servitude and fear toward the woman. While he was supposed to be the leader of the Strong Hammer Military Base, the man knew that was in the past, and right now, all the power was held in the hands of the young woman.

Orion stared at the begging face of the human general, a smirk appearing on her face before being replaced by boredom. She glanced at the massive figure behind her.

The person standing behind Orion was a massive man in white armor. His imposing figure was two and a half meters tall, and the wings on his back were made of steel, signaling the power and uniqueness of his bloodline.

When the angel noticed Orion’s glance, he stared at General Omar before speaking in a cold and detached voice. "Your time is over. Leave."

"Please, Lady Orion, just a few more minutes." General Omar grew frantic, knowing his words had no effect. But before he could continue speaking, his entire body trembled as the eyes of the massive angel glowed with killing intent. The man did not dare utter another word and lowered his head in fear.

"Hmph!" The angel only sneered as he saw the cowardly behavior of the human general and did not bother with more words before walking to the door.

The man opened the door and was about to shout for Omar to leave when suddenly his eyes widened. He saw with shock how a nearly invisible figure flashed into the room at a shocking speed.

"LOOK OUT!"

Orion’s eyes widened as she heard the shout of terror from her guard. She was in pure shock when a shadowy figure appeared in front of her, waving a small dagger at her face.

As if reacting to the danger, a magic barrier formed around Orion. The woman was a Champion mage with a powerful bloodline, so it was normal for her to have a powerful barrier active at all times.

Orion thought the barrier would withstand the attack, but to her awe, the dagger pierced through it. She could not believe there would be such a powerful artifact in a New Plane and immediately tried to move away, but she was too slow.

Amara had used all her strength and taken advantage of her momentum for that strike. The Dagger of Sin’s Whisper pierced through the magical barrier.

The magic defense was not useless, as they gave Orion some space, but the Royal Guard still managed to leave a deep cut on the angel’s face, destroying one of her eyes!
