Chapter 105: Cold Town
Chapter 105: Cold Town
Vlad smiled as he saw hundreds of people drinking from the large cauldron filled with red liquid and pieces of meat. They couldn’t get enough of it, and their conditions constantly improved with every drink.
Among the survivors getting a feast were the man and his family he had rescued from the attic. They had regained their strength to move their bodies after they had woken up.
The liquid they were consuming was a potion called Demon Blood Elixir. It was made using the blood of hundreds of demonic beasts and a few Champion demons, and Vlad’s storage space was practically full of it.
For someone like Vlad, it worked as a refresher that satisfied his body’s thirst and nutrition, but it was nothing short of a divine elixir for Mortals. Its power was even stronger for those with weaker bodies. In people who had yet to reach Level 1, it would completely heal as long as they had a pulse.
The one who made this potion was none other than the small yellow cat on Vlad’s shoulder.
Jormungandr had seen the power of a profession such as Runemaster and sought one. Vlad had given him a comprehensive manual regarding professions through a memory tablet that the A.I. Chip had engraved, and eventually, he chose to become an Alchemist.
An Alchemist is a highly skilled craftsperson who combines the arts of potion-making and artifact creation. At the most basic level, anyone who mixes substances in a liquid form to create a desired effect or melts metal with magic to craft an artifact can be considered an alchemist. However, true alchemists are much more than that; they are masters of both Potionmastery and Artificing, blending these disciplines to achieve extraordinary results.
Alchemy required a fair amount of intelligence, as well as time and materials. It could also be a very expensive pursuit, requiring a gargantuan amount of theoretical research. Luckily for Jormungandr, he had the A.I. Chip, which could take care of all the analyzing and perform simulations, helping him save materials during experimentation.
After ensuring that all the people regained their vigor and health, Vlad led them to the most secure place in the town, a large underground parking lot, and gave them a few hundred kilograms of meat and a lot of Demon Blood Elixir.
If they rationed things properly, they could survive for at least half a year. Of course, Vlad would not just leave them here, but he could not bring them back to the base either, as he had other things to take care of.
Luckily, this is where the advantage of having an organization came in handy. Vlad had already communicated with Grand Marshal Anglius, and a group had been dispatched to this place. They would arrive in a month and bring these people back to the Silent Wind Military Base.
Vlad informed the Frost Town survivors of all this and gave them communicator gems so they could stay in contact with the Silent Wind Military Base. That way, they would not worry about whether or not the rescue forces would arrive, easing their minds and maintaining peace.
Once everything was in order with the people of Frost Town and all the survivors were taken care of, Vlad and Jormungandr spent a few hours surveying the surroundings, ensuring nothing could harm these people until the Silent Wind Military Base’s squad arrived.
Only then did the duo depart Frost Town. They returned to the highway as they advanced to another town on their way to Nagan Mountain. Vlad and Jormungandr were in a very good mood after rescuing over seven hundred people from Frost Town, yet their smiles vanished as soon as they reached Galian Town.
The place was two days away from Frost Town and was much smaller, with a population of less than one thousand. Yet what Vlad and Jormungandr saw was a place full of dismembered corpses.
Vlad’s eyes were cold as he walked into the town, and Jormungandr looked around with a deep frown.
"Boss, what happened here? Demons did not kill these people," the small yellow cat said, frowning as he saw the rotten corpses on the ground.
The fact that there were corpses left indicated demonic beasts did not kill them, as the creatures would have consumed all of them. Not to mention that most of the people were killed by either sharp weapons or blasted to pieces.
Vlad remained silent for a moment, his eyes scanning the terrain as he ordered the A.I. Chip to thoroughly analyze the wounds.
[Beep! According to the patterns and wound analysis on the corpses, the killers were humanoid bipedal entities. There are also traces of elemental particles left by spells.]
A sharp light appeared in Vlad’s eyes as he heard the analysis of the A.I. Chip. "The ones that killed these people were humanoids, so the most obvious culprit would be angels. However, they would not go on this sort of rampage and kill everybody, as humans are useful tools in their minds."
Vlad had just finished his sentence when he looked into the distance. "We are very close to the border with Azarin Country."
Jormungandr’s eyes narrowed as he heard those words, also turning to the distance. His black eyes unleashed a sense of coldness. The small yellow cat had learned all he could about Constantine Country, focusing on geography and history, and he knew that their relationship with Azarin Country was not exactly the best.
"Would people really do this when demons and angels are roaming the world right now?" It was hard for Jormungandr to wrap his mind around the idea that other humans would commit this massacre at a time when unity was the only way they could survive.
"Ahhhh, the human heart is full of mystery. It can give birth to heroes but also monsters worse than any demon." Vlad sighed as he turned his eyes to the corpses on the ground. "Let’s burn the remains so they can rest properly and get on our way."
