Chapter 104: Despair and hope (II)
Jamas could not believe what was happening on the streets of his town. His sight was too weak to discern the identity of the ones responsible for such carnage, but he could see a fiery form and a bolt of lightning crossing through the streets.
All the demonic beasts, the creatures that had kept the town’s survivors in a state of utter fear and despair, were being butchered, burned, and blasted to pieces, no different than ants before the might of lightning and fire.
Jamas could not take his eyes off the carnage. With every demon’s death, a sense of righteous justice arose in his heart, a fierce satisfaction in seeing those monsters that killed his friends and neighbors being annihilated.
His heart pounded in his chest with a strength he believed was gone as he witnessed the fiery figure and the lightning bolt wreak havoc on the demonic horde. Each demon’s death was a blow against the darkness that had enveloped his life since the apocalypse.
There was a massive number of demonic beasts in the city, easily surpassing one thousand, but they were being slaughtered at such a shocking speed by the fire entity and lightning bolt that in less than ten minutes, there was not a single one left. The streets were littered with charred remains and smoldering bodies, the stench of burnt flesh filling the air.
Jamas saw how the fiery figure and lightning bolt returned to the center of the town and remained steady for a few seconds. Just as he wondered what would happen next, he heard a powerful voice echo across the town.
"The demons are dead! Come out to obtain medicine and food!"
’A human voice!’ Jamas’s eyes glowed with thrill as he heard that voice. It was young yet carried a deep sense of might and power, but most importantly, it was human. A feeling he had thought was gone from his soul began to rise.
Hope.
Jamas’s eyes began to glow as he allowed himself to believe that maybe this was not the end. Maybe the demons could be taken down, and humanity could rise once more. It was dreadful to allow hope into his heart, as the fall would deal a deadly blow, but he felt this was the right thing to do, that he did not have to give in to despair.
People began to emerge from their houses and approach the two figures. While the inhabitants of Frost Town did not know them, and their power made them terrifying, they had killed the demons, and most importantly, they offered food and medicine, something they desperately needed to survive.
Jamas saw the town’s people going to the duo, and his eyes immediately turned to his unconscious wife and children. This was his chance to save them, and he began to use every ounce of power he had in his body to try and get up, but he was simply too weak. He had been without food for several days, and the only thing that had kept him conscious was the fear that if he fell asleep, his family would not be alive when he woke up.
"Here, here." The man spoke as loud as he could, trying to draw attention, but his voice was a mere whisper due to his weakness. Still, he kept shouting with all his power, doing everything he could to draw their attention.
Minutes began to pass, and no one heard Jamas’s voice, making the man’s eyes lose their light out of frustration at his weakness. He could barely speak, and his throat had gone dry, making every shout carry a little blood, but determination appeared in his eyes as he turned to his family, and he kept shouting.
"Detect Life!"
Just as Jamas’ mouth was filling with blood due to his inhuman effort to shout, he heard a sharp voice, and the next second, a green energy wave emerged from the center of the town. His eyes widened as he saw how a green light began to shine over his body, and the same light appeared over his wife and children.
’What is this?’ Jamas was perplexed by the green light covering his body, but those thoughts vanished as a few seconds later, a hand pierced through the ceiling of his attic, breaking a piece of it, revealing a young, handsome man with black eyes.
"Good, good. You are all alive." The young man spoke with a kind voice as he looked around the attic, his body unleashing a potent and majestic aura full of life and power.
’So young.’ Jamas was surprised that their rescuer was such a young man. He tried to speak, but his throat felt like sandpaper.
"Do not speak. Here, take this. It will heal your body and help you regain your strength." The young man noticed Jamas’ state and stopped him from speaking, as he took a small receptacle with a red liquid.
The moment Jamas saw that red liquid, his entire body began to tremble as if every cell in him wanted to consume it. He had never desired a piece of food or liquid as much as now, yet he did not open his mouth. His eyes turned to his wife and children.
Although Jamas did not utter a word, it was easy for the young man to understand that he wanted his family to be healed first. A radiant smile appeared on the young man’s face as he nodded and went to the unconscious woman and children, pouring some of the red liquid into their mouths.
Jamas’ eyes widened as he saw his wife and children’s bodies begin to regain color, and a peaceful expression appeared on their faces. He could not help but cry as a sense of utter bliss filled his heart.
"Here, it is your turn. There is no need to worry now. The liquid will heal your family, and they will be fine in a few hours." The young man spoke in a serene voice, offering Jamas the red liquid once more.
Seeing that his family would be all right, Jamas took the red liquid gladly before falling asleep.
