Chapter 132: Weapons (2)
"Lawrence, do not annoy me more than you already have. I am trying to be gentle with my approach," said Xavier. Selene had the strange talent of knowing when he had done something wrong.
As well as he might clean Lawrence’s blood from his body, Xavier was certain Selene might pick up on something.
Lawrence laughed at the joke Xavier made. "Gentle? You of all people don’t know how to be gentle. Don’t think I am not aware of what you do. All of the court knows about it but your name offers you protection. You are just as bad as I am so you don’t have any room to judge me."
Xavier felt insulted once more.
Lawrence thought he got the best of Xavier until he blinked and the man sitting before him on the table was in front of him. He was quick to react to grab Xavier’s hand. ’You’re not the only pureblood here. I’ve been waiting to teach you a lesson," he said.
Lawrence was going to have his fun properly scolding Xavier. He was far older than Xavier which meant he had more tricks under his sleeves.
Why were the others afraid of Xavier? If they looked past his name, Xavier was nothing more than a rebellious kid who needed harsh handling to make him behave.
The one thing that worried Lawrence was Xavier smiling instead of being angry his plans were ruined.
Lawrence wanted to throw Xavier towards the table to give him something to speak about but found it hard to move. "You. Only your great-grandfather can do this. How is this possible?"
Lawrence had heard Xavier was more like his elders but he didn’t know it was to this degree. He thought it was only the king who had inherited a special skill from his elders.
Xavier removed Lawrence’s hold on his hand. Unfortunately, his control of Lawrence didn’t last long since he was a pureblood. "What did you hope to get out of helping Ruby Harrison? Speak the truth and I might spare you today."
Lawrence wasn’t a fool. He knew if he spoke the truth Xavier was going to tell him.
The Harrisons were traitors but they did have beautiful women. The suggestion to make them repay the kingdom with their bodies wasn’t accepted. Selene was a beautiful young woman with no one to help her so naturally, many sought after her. No one could have predicted she would run into the hands of a mixed-blood.
Lawrence was waiting patiently. He had cut off all that was left to her and was ready to appear before her as a saviour before Mr. Fletcher could become her husband but that all failed. He lost the chance to have a pretty woman trap her, forever indebted to him for getting back her home.
Now she was married to Xavier and the king had his eyes set on her. Lawrence started to think it was true the Harrisons were hiding that there was a special skill among them.
It now dawned on Lawrence why Xavier might have an interest in Selene. "You sneaky bastard. You heard about her family as well."
"So, that’s why you got involved," Xavier got his answer. "You were after Selene. How unfortunate for you. I’ve come to realise that I don’t handle other men eyeing my wife well. So," he plunged a small dagger he carried around with him into Lawrence’s side.
Lawrence laughed since a small knife wasn’t going to kill him. "You forget that I am pureblood. You can’t control me for long, can you?" He realised after gaining control of his body.
Of course, Xavier would not be as good as his elders were.
"You have much to learn boy," Lawrence said, attempting to grab Xavier once more but this time, Xavier was quick to get out of the way.
Lawrence now plotted to kill Xavier here as a favour to the king and to hide what Xavier stumbled upon. Other than the Blackthorns, would anyone miss Xavier? He was always a nuisance who spoiled the courts’ plans and if he was so protective of humans these days, Xavier was going to spoil their future plans.
Lawrence ignored the open wound Xavier created since it should start to heal. He was focused on getting close to Xavier to inflict a wound far worse than what was done to him.
Xavier credited Lawrence for not blindly attacking and plotting out his next move, but as bad luck would have it for Lawrence, the wound was not healing.
Lawrence placed his hand against the wound Xavier created. There was a strange feeling as if someone had set him on fire. He took a second look at the weapon Xavier used on him and to his horror, Lawrence realised it was a forbidden weapon.
His body wouldn’t heal from it.
"Where did you get that?" Lawrence asked. Something like that needed to be destroyed for the sake of their kind.
"From the same humans the palace thinks can’t harm us. Haven’t you heard the stories they told? Their God wanted to create balance in the world so he sent down a way to harm us. They’ve learned to create weapons mixed with holy water. Pure holy water," Xavier said, impressed by the weapon.
It was an interesting find for Xavier when he heard these weapons still existed. After the truce that vampires and humans would live together in peace, these weapons were to be destroyed and never made again. Now, they are showing up again.
It helped to narrow down who might be attacking vampires. Only priests could bless these weapons.
Xavier found the source of why the recent attacks had been so successful. "Instead of trying to sleep with them and forcefully take their blood, you should have been putting an end to the growing problem in the kingdom. Finding out how many of these weapons they created."
It had taken Xavier months of plotting to get his hand on one. Simply touching it left a red mark on his skin so he could imagine the pain Lawrence faced now.
Still, this wasn’t enough to satisfy him.
Lawrence was shocked that these weapons existed. The court had taken every necessary step to get rid of these weapons and those who knew how to make them. They believed they had been one step ahead to remain above humans.
Lawrence looked up in time to witness Xavier coming close to him again, this time aiming the dagger at his heart. He managed to grab Xavier’s hand with the dagger in it. "Wait. I can help you. There’s more to what happened with the Harrisons and what the king is doing these days. It’s bigger than you know. You said you would spare me."
Lawrence trusted Xavier was smart enough to keep someone who would be useful to him alive but that thought soon was proved wrong as Xavier overpowered him, driving the dagger into where his heart should be.
Lawrence felt more on fire with the second wound inflicted on his body. He managed to push Xavier away from him, pulling the dagger out of his body.
"I said I might spare you," Xavier replied.
Xavier stood back to watch the effects of the weapon on a pureblood. If not for needing to hide he was the one to kill Lawrence, he would present this to the palace as why they should worry about the attacks.
For now, Xavier would focus on keeping Selene and everyone else he cared for safe. He dropped the dagger as it started to burn his hand and returned to Lawrence to help speed up his death.
Xavier aimed his right hand to the open wound at Lawrence’s side which wasn’t healing. He penetrated the wound with his fingers, digging into Lawrence’s side to have him feel more pain. He had tried to be nice but that never worked. It would never work.
Sensing movement in the corner of his eye, Xavier looked out the window to see a small bat flying away.
