Chapter 124: Helping hand (3)

Ruby grabbed Trevor’s hand. "It might be better for you to stay inside. There are countless men outside who serve him. We can send a servant to the court to handle this. We must be smart."

Ruby knew it was very likely the paper Xavier had was not forged but they could ignore it and claim the one they had was real. Why did Selene need to ruin everything by marrying a lord? It was all going so well.

"He will not leave," Trevor said, certain of it. "I need you to go and calm Paige down. We can’t make her upset."

Ruby knew that but for now, she needed to focus on Trevor’s safety. They had welcomed a devil into their home.

"Selene is out there. She’s too scared to come to us-"

"I can hear you quite well," Xavier interrupted the conversation. "Careful when speaking about her."

It seemed there was only one smart person in this home since Trevor’s wife left hopefully to gather her things.

"I can’t wait an hour," Xavier said, having better things to do with his time. "Lucas, have the others start pulling everything off the walls and throw it outside. We’re giving them a helping hand."

Ruby saw red after Xavier’s offer. "This isn’t settled yet. We can’t trust that what you have is real when we have our papers."

"I’m curious how the Harrisons would feel if they knew about your little lover. You shouldn’t only be concerned about losing this home but also finding everything you sold or tossed away when you moved here. You can’t get rid of what doesn’t belong to you so you will either have to search for it or pay Selene back," said Xavier.

Trevor laughed since it was foolish to think they would pay for anything they threw away or got money from. Why would he have kept anything belonging to his uncle when the man tried to kill the king?

It pained Xavier to uphold his promise to Selene since he couldn’t lay a hand on Trevor inside the home. Their marriage was going too well for it to be ruined over making a mess in this home.

Ruby opened her arms wide to try to block the guards as they came in. They could not ruin her home like this. "You cannot touch my things like this."

Xavier found it funny Ruby said that considering she had touched Selene’s things.

Xavier stepped outside as his guards went inside.

Trevor followed Xavier as his mother tried to stop the guards from coming inside. "Lord Blackthorn!" He called out.

Xavier didn’t respond since he had already wasted too much time speaking. Speaking was useless at a time when his actions sent a better message. Still, he turned to face Trevor.

Trevor did not like Xavier’s smile now that they were outside. Did Xavier think he won?

Trevor knew he could not bribe a man like Xavier to let this all go so he had to try the next best thing. "Selene already lives on your estate. To put this home in her hands would be a waste since she would not have any use for it. I am slowly building back up the Harrison name so it would be best if she dropped this matter. She is causing tension in the family again."

Trevor licked his lips, trying to think of something else since Xavier didn’t show any interest. "Has she told you everything? I know my cousin well and she’s the type to do anything to get ahead. Look at what she did to Gabriel. You should be careful before you end up like him. Selene didn’t get a lot of love-"

Trevor choked, almost tripping due to the force Xavier sent him back with after grabbing his neck. He had only blinked and Xavier was close to him, gripping his neck. "Purebloods can’t hurt each other."

"It’s more of a matter that they shouldn’t rather they can’t. That isn’t something I follow. I warned you to be careful when speaking about her but you don’t know when to shut up," Xavier said.

How was it he knew Selene better than her family? He had been around the Harrisons in the past to know that Selene was loved by her parents. She might have experienced hate from her relatives who were jealous of how she was raised.

Trevor didn’t fear what Xavier would do now since it would take a lot to kill a pureblood and Xavier wouldn’t be so foolish to harm a pureblood. The court wouldn’t let him get away with it.

Trevor bore with the pain around his neck as his body would heal any bruise Xavier made. "I will never understand why a man like you married someone like Selene. My mother was kind to her by setting her up to marry Mister Fletcher-"

Trevor braced himself for the impact of the wall behind him. He tried to fight to free himself before his head collided with the wall again but strangely, he felt unable to move. He closed his eyes as the back of his head hit the wall again, this time leaving a burning pain.

He felt his body starting to heal the wound Xavier was making but when the man before him kept repeatedly slamming his head against the wall with great force, it took longer for Trevor’s body to heal.

Xavier continued to beat Trevor’s head against the wall by the door, staining it and his hand with blood. He had grown tired of hearing Trevor speak and did not stop his cruel beating until he felt satisfied.

Inside, Ruby caught onto the scent of blood. She knew human blood quite well and knew it wasn’t what she was smelling. Her heart sank when she looked at the door, finding Xavier holding onto her bloody son.

"Trevor!" Ruby’s cries fill the home.

"Mother,’ Trevor made a small sound. He was able to move again but his body still felt strange.

Xavier released Trevor now that he retained control of his body. He took out a small cloth from a pocket to wipe the blood off his hands.

Ruby first went to Trevor who wore a dazed look. She carefully turned his head to see how badly he was hurt. "You!" She turned to Xavier. He had managed to create an open wound at the back of Trevor’s head.

Xavier didn’t acknowledge Ruby. Normally he left the women to be handled by someone else but Ruby was pushing it today by raising her hand to him. They hadn’t learned anything.

"Don’t!"

Ruby looked behind Xavier to the carriage where Selene exited from. It was about time Selene showed herself since all of this started because of her. Had Selene known her place it wouldn’t come to this.

Selene lived on a big estate with other riches to her hands so in Ruby’s eyes it was greedy to want this home as well when Selene had no use for it. Giving this home to Trevor would make up for all the suffering Selene’s parents put the other Harrisons through.

"Look at what he did to my son," Ruby pointed to Trevor.

Selene glanced at Trevor who made small sounds she couldn’t make out. Trevor would survive this. "If you would get off my property then it wouldn’t have come to this. My husband might not give you the same punishment as Trevor but I am leaning towards letting your head match Trevor’s."
