Chapter 150: Persuade Sawyer To Agree
Abigail was shocked. She never expected Sawyer’s brother to be so cruel.
How could he still blame Sawyer after all this time? What happened in the past was the fault of their parents, not Sawyer’s.
"Abby, that’s why I want Vincent to guard you. He’s one of my trusted people, just like Brody. He can keep you safe from someone like my brother," Sawyer’s voice pulled Abigail from her thoughts.
She instantly turned to look at him, her heart aching as she saw his gloominess.
"Sawyer, I understand..." Abigail said, smiling at him. After hearing his valid reason, she no longer needed to refuse Vincent as her bodyguard. His explanation made sense to her.
She was willing to accept his arrangement for both their sakes.
Abigail is aware that this was one consequence of her decision to become his girlfriend; her life started to change, too.
Now, she can’t back out or run away from him because deep in her heart, she feels she is starting to like him.
...
Sawyer asked Abigail to sleep as the night grew late, but she refused.
She remembered she still needed to discuss Andy Bennet’s offer with him.
"I’m not sleepy yet. Let’s continue watching—" she said, but her words were interrupted by a yawn. Sawyer chuckled at her obvious tiredness.
"Do you want me to carry you inside?" he playfully suggested. Abigail immediately dismissed the idea.
She shook her head. "I have a question for you. It’s about Crimson Leaf Cafe."
"What do you want to ask?" Sawyer replied casually, though he felt annoyed at having to discuss it.
"Crimson Leaf Cafe’s management called me and offered their lawyer to help during my legal battle with that man."
Sawyer was taken aback. He hadn’t requested Andy to send his lawyer for Abigail. Intrigued by this matter, he asked, "And what is your response?"
"Of course, I refused. I told them I already had a lawyer. But they insist on helping me because this relates to their company."
Abigail paused. Remember how persistent Andy Bennet is; it makes her laugh inwardly.
"I suspect they are afraid I will ruin their company’s reputation," she continued. "Oh, right... Sawyer, did you know that Crimson Leaf is a subsidiary of the Silverstone Group? The richest company in the country?"
Sawyer almost laughed at her words. Of course, he knew. This morning, he had met their CEO and scolded him for running the business in a way that caused someone like Abigail to suffer.
"Hmm, I know," was the only answer he could give her. He didn’t want to mention his friendship with Andy Bennet.
"You should know that they are a big and rich company. That’s why I had an idea when they insisted on helping me." Abigail felt excited about her plan to get money from Silverstone Group.
Sawyer frowned when he saw the happiness in her eyes. She looked delighted. "What idea?" he asked, curious.
"Because I insisted on refusing their lawyer, the person who contacted me eventually gave up but offered to pay my lawyer’s legal fee." Abigail’s eyes lit up when she saw him. "Sawyer, let this wealthy company pay Mr. Rowan Sterling?"
Her suggestion amused Sawyer.
"How, Sawyer? Do you agree?" Abigail asked again when she noticed he was silent except for his smile.
Sawyer squeezed her hand gently. He had no intention of revealing his friendship with Andy Bennet to Abigail—this wasn’t the right time for her to learn about it.
"Abby, your idea isn’t bad. But it’s fine. I don’t need their money to help my woman," he replied.
Abigail sighed deeply. She wanted to help him avoid spending too much on her, but it seemed like she had failed again. Sawyer would surely refuse even if she insisted.
Still, she tried to convince him once more. "Sawyer, I know how much you love me, and you have the means to pay Mr. Rowan Sterling. But..."
"Abby—"
She took his hand, trying to stop him from continuing. "Please, just let me finish, Sawyer!"
He nodded, urging her to continue. Abigail smiled and continued, "I understand how expensive Rowan Sterling’s legal fees are. Even if I saved for an entire year, I couldn’t afford them, right?"
Sawyer frowned, doubting her words. "Abby, he is not that expensive."
Abigail was at a loss for words. Of course, it was cheaper for him because he was wealthy. She realized that Sawyer might not even know how much money he had.
"Mr. Jones, that’s because you’re rich. That’s why you didn’t relate to what I said..." She shrugged before continuing. "But can you please just accept the Silverstone Group’s offer? Let them cover Mr. Rowan’s legal fees, please?"
Sawyer didn’t know how to respond to her suggestion. He wanted to agree, but the truth was that he hadn’t paid Rowan’s legal fees. Even though he tried to pay, Rowan would refuse his money.
However, seeing how determined Abigail was, Sawyer began considering her proposal and decided against telling her he was the ultimate owner of Titan Law Firm.
Ten years ago, when he passed his bar exam and could become a lawyer, he became the firm’s major investor when Rowan Sterling planned to start it. He had chosen not to become a full-time lawyer, so he refused Rowan’s offer to become the partner.
Defeated by her pleading, cute gaze, he lovingly pinched her nose. He said, "Alright, I will agree. Anything for my lovely Abby."
She smiled happily.
"If they call you again, tell them you agree. I will ask Rowan to charge them his full legal fee. Then, I will ask Rowan to transfer the discount price he offered me to you. How does that sound?"
Abigail’s eyebrows slightly raised as she processed his words. "Sawyer, thank you for supporting my idea. But why should he transfer the discount price to me? You should accept it, right?"
"Of course, you should accept it because this is your idea, not mine."
Sawyer stifled a laugh; he admired her adorable, confused expression. Her eyebrows furrowed, and her lips formed a slight pout. He resisted the urge to kiss her.
