Chapter 148: Sawyer’s A Bit Much Concern
"Hi, sister-in-law, glad to see you again..."
Aaron Hart greeted Abigail with a broad smile as he entered her bedroom on the rooftop. He was still amazed to learn that Sawyer and Abigail lived in the same house. Interestingly, Paul, Sawyer’s butler, had warned him not to tell anyone about this because it was a secret. Even visiting Sawyer’s new house was considered confidential.
Abigail smiled back at Aaron, though her smile didn’t reach her eyes. She was still irritated that Sawyer had called his private doctor again to check her condition.
She was sure she was okay, having only a slight fever and sore throat. Despite her attempts to stop him from calling the doctor, Sawyer insisted.
"Nice to meet you too, Dr. Aaron," Abigail replied.
"Sawyer, may I begin my examination?" Aaron asked, glancing at Sawyer across the bed, looking gloomy on the edge of the bed.
Sawyer gently held Abigail’s hand and noticed how hot it felt. The warmth concerned him, and he worried about her health. He began to suspect that she might have a cold and a fever, likely due to the stress of what had happened to her at the café.
"Hmmm... please, make sure her fever goes down quickly!" Sawyer said, looking at Aaron.
Aaron approached Abigail, who was lying in bed. He sat nervously at the edge of the bed, examining her and asking her a few basic questions. After a few minutes of checking her pulse, temperature, and breath, his relieved smile gradually appeared.
"Don’t worry, sister-in-law; you just caught a cold and have a slight fever."
"I know, right? This is only a cold, and I don’t need a doctor to check me. I’d be fine with Over The Counter medicines," Abigail answered Aaron. Still, actually, her words were only for Sawyer.
Aaron stifled a laugh at her comment.
"Yes, you are right again, sister-in-law. Oh, by the way, here are premium medications you won’t find in the common pharmacy. You’ll get better sooner than usual." Standing by the bed, he smiled and continued, "You just need to get more rest now. More quality sleep, drink plenty of water, and eat delicious, healthy meals..."
"Thank you, doctor, for your help. I’m sorry to trouble you by asking you to come here to check my condition—" Abigail’s words trailed off when Sawyer squeezed her hand. She smiled back at him, noticing his concerned expression. "Sawyer, I’m fine... your concern is a bit much. I just need to sleep." She tried to reassure him again.
Sawyer smiled. "I know you’ll be alright, Abby. But it would be best if you healed faster. Didn’t you say we were going to visit Grandma tomorrow?"
Abigail nodded.
"Well, if you’re still sick, I’m afraid we’ll have to cancel the trip. It wouldn’t be safe for you or Grandma to visit her in this condition. Do you agree?"
"Umm, you’re right..." A hint of disappointment crossed her features.
Abigail felt sad and worried her Grandma would be disappointed. She had already called her Grandma and told her she would visit her tomorrow with Sawyer.
Sawyer gently patted her hand before turning his serious gaze back to Aaron.
"Aaron, I think you need to put in an IV to reduce her fever quickly so her body temperature can drop and she can recover by tomorrow. Can you do that?" Sawyer said casually. However, Abigail was taken aback.
She hated the feeling of the IV needle piercing her skin. It felt horrible and limited her movement.
"Can we skip the IV?" Abigail asked with pleading eyes, looking from Aaron to Sawyer.
"Sister, if you want to get healthy faster, what Sawyer suggested is right. If not, we don’t have to. But you need to rest..."
Abigail had no choice but to agree with Aaron and Sawyer. In the end, the IV needle was once again stuck in her skin.
...
Abigail spent all day in the bedroom, eating and sleeping. Abigail rarely left the bed, only getting up to use the bathroom.
At the same time, Sawyer took care of everything she needed and stayed with her all day.
As night approached, she felt much better. Her throat no longer hurt when she swallowed, her body temperature was normal, and her headache disappeared. Aaron finally removed her IV before dinner, leaving them to return to the hospital.
Abigail felt sorry because Sawyer cooked dinner for them. She insisted on helping, but he refused. He only asked her to wait on the sofa while watching a movie.
Looking at how busy he was in the kitchen, she felt her heart warm. What he did today for her, his care and gentleness, were enough to make her heart flutter.
After dinner of warm chicken soup, they sat in the living room and talked about a few things. However, a few moments later, she was shocked when Sawyer said he would stay overnight at her house to ensure she was alright.
"You don’t have to do that, Sawyer. If I need you, I will call you. You can rush over right away... we only live on different floors," Abigail responded, amused by his idea.
Sawyer took a deep sigh when he heard her refusal. "Abby, you know I won’t be able to sleep if I leave you alone, right?"
"I know. But where are you going to sleep?" She smiled, noticing his disappointment. "Sawyer, there is no guest room here, and the sofa in my bedroom isn’t big enough for your height. You’ll end up with back pain if you insist on staying. Did you forget you’ll drive us to Orange Town tomorrow?"
Abigail was genuinely concerned for his comfort.
"Thank you, my love. It makes me happy that you care about my back, but there’s really no need to worry. I’m a strong man and I’ll be fine sleeping on the couch."
"You—" she was momentarily speechless.
"Abby, if you’re still worried, I’ll sleep in the living room. This sofa is big enough for my long legs. And the cushion feels cozy enough for me to sleep on it." He grinned when he saw her chuckle.
"Alright, you can sleep here. But if you start feeling uncomfortable, you must return to the bedroom! Your bedroom, not mine, alright?" Abigail finally agreed; there was no way she could stop him from guarding her.
"Thank you, Abby!" he said, embracing her tightly but gently.
