Chapter 147: Increasingly Curious

"Jackson, do you know why I suddenly called you here?" Andy asked.

"Yes, sir. Amelia informed me. I have also investigated the case and asked our lawyer to provide Miss Abigail Snow with legal assistance. However," Jackson frowned slightly, "Titan Law Firm is already handling the case."

Andy was taken aback. He hadn’t yet asked why they had sent a lawyer. ’Did Abigail hire a lawyer from Titan Law Firm?’

"Are you serious? Did you assign someone to help her without me asking you?"

Andy doubted that Abigail could afford a lawyer from Titan Law Firm. Their legal fees were high, and they were very selective about the clients they accepted.

"No, sir. I just found out when Amelia called me a few minutes ago. When I checked with my contact at the police station, he informed me that Miss Abigail already has a lawyer and that lawyer is from Titan Law Firm—"

"Who is the lawyer assigned to assist her?" Andy inquired. He wanted to ensure that the lawyer accompanying Abigail was experienced; he didn’t want her to have an inexperienced attorney.

Jackson smiled and said, "They didn’t send anyone, but Mr. Rowan Sterling handled the case directly."

"What? Rowan Sterling?" Andy Bennet couldn’t hide his shock.

It was hard for Andy to believe what he was hearing. How could Rowan Sterling take on Abigail’s case? Lately, he has not handled any law cases, let alone one involving an individual.

Suddenly, Andy remembered his conversation with Abigail moments earlier. She mentioned that a friend had helped her, so she refused his offer.

’Does Abigail know Rowan Sterling? And his friend was Rowan?’

Feeling increasingly perplexed, Andy picked up his cell phone and typed a message to Rowan.

"Hi Rowan, I just learned that you helped one of the Crimson Leaf Café employees, Abigail Snow. Is that true?"

After sending the text, Andy kept his eyes fixed on his cell phone screen, hoping Rowan would reply immediately. It didn’t take long before a buzzing sound caught his attention.

A reply from Rowan Sterling appeared on his screen: "Yes!"

Andy frowned at the briefness of Rowan’s response, which only added to his confusion and curiosity.

"You know Abigail Snow?" he typed.

"Yes!" came the quick reply.

Stressed by Rowan’s ambiguous answers, Andy decided to call him.

On the third ring, the call connected, and he heard Rowan’s hurried tone on the other end. "Andy, I have an important meeting. I only have three minutes to speak to you..."

"Sorry, Rowan, for the sudden call. I just wanted to ask about Miss Abigail Snow. You mentioned that you were representing her legally, right?"

"Yes, that’s true."

"But we haven’t officially assigned you yet. How did you come to help her?" Andy inquired.

"You’re correct, Andy; you didn’t ask me. But I’m helping her not because she works for your company, Crimson Leaf Café, but because I want to help her personally," Rowan explained.

"Helping her personally? So you know her? Are you friends with her?" Andy was increasingly amazed by Abigail’s connections—she seemed to know one of the top lawyers in the country.

"I’m not friends with her, but my client assigned me to be her lawyer. Why do you ask?"

Andy frowned deeper, realizing that Abigail’s friend could convince such a powerful lawyer to take up her case. Whoever that man was, he must be someone Rowan deeply respected.

"May I know who your client is?" Andy asked again, ignoring Rowan’s question.

Suddenly, Rowan Sterling’s laughter echoed on the other end of the line, deepening Andy’s frown. Before he could ask again, Rowan spoke up.

"I apologize, Andy. I can’t reveal who my client is; he prefers to stay out of the spotlight. And you won’t be able to investigate him either. But because you are my friend, I will tell you a clue: You actually know him too..."

"I know him? Who is he?" Andy asked, increasingly perplexed.

"Well, my friend, there’s no need to worry about Miss Abigail Snow and the company’s reputation; everything will be under control. Alright, your three minutes are up. You know my fees are quite high, right? I feel bad charging you, Andy. Goodbye—"

Andy stared blankly at his cellphone screen, his curiosity about Abigail intensifying.

A flood of questions slowly filled his mind: Who was the man behind her, and what was her connection to him?

Despite his growing curiosity, Andy tried to set the matter aside for the moment. He needed to direct his frustration toward his director first. How could they be so clueless about these issues?

At Abigail’s house,

Abigail was still amazed by her conversation with Andy Bennet and puzzled about how to stop him from helping her.

After some time, an idea popped into her mind.

"Wait! Should I ask Sawyer to let Andy Bennet cover Rowan Sterling’s legal fees?"

Although she didn’t know exactly how much it would cost to hire a lawyer like Rowan Sterling, she guessed that Sawyer must have paid a significant amount. Thinking about it made her feel worried.

"Abby, you should accept the Silverstone Group’s money! Don’t let Sawyer spend his own!" Abigail smiled, feeling confident about her plan.

She placed her cell phone on the study table in her bedroom and then took the medicine prescribed by the pharmacist to relieve her sore throat and headache.

Afterward, Abigail lay down on her bed to rest. She still had a few hours before Sawyer arrived for lunch. Earlier, he had texted her saying she didn’t need to cook because he would ask his chef to prepare the meal for them.

Just as Abigail was about to close her eyes, her cell phone rang again. She walked over to her desk and was surprised to see Sawyer’s name on the screen.

"Hi, Sawyer..." Abigail greeted him happily, a broad smile spreading across her face as though he were standing right before her.

"Abby, I’m at your door. Will you let me in, please?"

"Huh?! You’re back..." Abigail hurried outside to open the door for him. Her joyful smile lit up as she said, "I thought you would arrive at lunch."

"I missed you, so I came early," Sawyer replied, smiling as he gently placed his hand on her forehead. "You have a fever, Abby—"
