Chapter 146: Refused His Kindness
Chapter 146: Refused His Kindness
"Hello, Mr. Andy...?"
"Hi, Abigail—" His voice trailed off as he noticed that Abigail sounded a bit hoarse on the other end.
"Hi, how are you? I didn’t expect you to call this soon, sir. Did you send me an email or something related to the design?"
Abigail asked, her voice filled with worry. She hadn’t checked her work email in almost three days and was anxious that Andy needed to revise the project again.
Andy answers her, "Yeah, Abigail. No, I’m not calling you about that. Uhmmm, Abigail, are you alright?"
"Yes. Of course, I’m fine, sir. Why did you suddenly ask that?"
"Abigail, you forgot again—"
"Huh!? Forget about what, sir...?" She was utterly clueless.
"You forgot how to call my name, Abigail. Can you please remove ’mister’ before my name?" A light chuckle escaped his lips.
"Ah, sorry, sir, I mean, Andy..." Abigail couldn’t help but laugh as well. She was still not used to addressing him this way, especially during conversations like this.
"Abigail, I will forgive you today, but next time, I won’t. If you forget again, you’ll need to treat me to lunch. Do you agree?" Andy Bennet asked teasingly, trying to lighten her mood. He could sense that her voice was hoarse as if she had just been crying.
’She must be sad about what happened to her, right?’ Andy felt even more worried about her condition.
Abigail nearly coughed when she heard his words. She couldn’t believe that this influential figure, Andy Bennet, had a humorous side.
"Alright, DEAL!" Abigail responded playfully, but then her expression stiffened. She couldn’t believe she had fallen into his trap.
How could she agree? She might end up broke again if this rich man wanted to dine at an expensive Japanese restaurant.
Worried that she might make another hasty mistake, she asked, "Why are you calling me Andy? Do you need me to do something about your house?"
"No, it’s not about that. I read the news about Crimson Leaf Café and felt concerned when I heard what happened to you, Abigail. Are you alright?" Andy asked nervously.
"Wait, wait, Andy. How do you know that the incident circulating on the internet is related to me?" Abigail was confused. She was aware of the news, but her name was never mentioned when she checked. In fact, the news didn’t even specify the café’s exact location.
Hearing Abigail’s words, Andy Bennet exhaled softly, realizing she didn’t know Crimson Leaf Café was part of the Silverstone Group.
"Are you investigating me? Do you have someone stalking me?" She wanted to ask that but stopped, fearing it would offend him.
After waiting a few seconds for him to speak but saying nothing, she asked, "Andy, are you still there?"
"I’m here," Andy replied, clearing his throat before continuing. "Abigail, I know about it because Crimson Leaf Café is a subsidiary of the Silverstone Group."
"Oh my God! Seriously?" Abigail was stunned. She had never investigated it before and was completely unaware of it.
Andy smiled and added, "Yes, Crimson Leaf Café is part of our food and beverage division."
Abigail felt amused to learn this; she had never suspected she was working for one of his company’s business chains.
"Abigail, I called you personally because I want to make sure you’re alright. I genuinely care about you," he said, his voice filled with concern.
"Thank you for your call. I’m fine, Andy," Abigail responded.
Andy was genuinely concerned about what had happened to Abigail and wanted to meet with her in person. However, he first needed to scold a few of his directors, and he also needed to talk to the Legal Director.
"I’m glad to hear that. I feel relieved now," he said. "But I will send my legal team to help you; I believe you need one. And don’t worry about that man; I will ensure he receives a heavy punishment and will never get out of prison."
"Andy, you are really kind. Thank you so much for your concern. However, I must decline your offer because I already have a lawyer," Abigail responded.
Although Andy was disappointed that Abigail had declined his offer, he felt relieved knowing she already had someone to help her legally.
"I understand. However, since the incident occurred within my company, we will cover all your lawyer’s fees and any expenses you incur, Abigail." This was the only way he could justify helping her.
"Andy, you don’t have to—"
"Please, Abigail, don’t refuse me, okay? I know you are not a full-time, permanent employee yet, but you are still under our contract. As I mentioned, we will take responsibility for assisting you because this situation is happening in our company," Andy insisted.
Abigail took a deep breath, feeling the weight of his persistence.
"Andy, you don’t have to do this. Someone has already helped me," Abigail replied, deliberately leaving out Sawyer’s name.
Andy paused momentarily before answering, "Abigail, I won’t ask you to cancel your lawyer, but I want my company to take responsibility for your case and cover his legal fees. I insist on this because it’s related to the company’s reputation. I hope you understand..."
Abigail remained silent, contemplating his words.
"Alright, I will talk to my lawyer," she finally said. Abigail couldn’t refuse him, as his explanations made sense. However, she needed to discuss this with Sawyer first.
"Thank you, Abigail. I have a sudden meeting now, but I will contact you again later," Andy said, looking at Jackson Parker by the doorway. He then signaled him to sit on the sofa.
After Andy ended the call with Abigail, he joined Jackson Parker on the sofa.
Just when Andy was about to talk to Jackson, Amelia knocked on the door and informed Andy that the Director of the F&B Department and several managers involved with the Crimson Leaf Café business line were waiting for him in the meeting room.
Andy asked Amelia to inform them to wait, as he needed to talk to Jackson first.
