Chapter 144: Shocking News (1)
At Silverstone Tower.
Sawyer stood by the massive window in the CEO’s office room, gripping his cell phone tightly.
Since last night, he had been unable to stop thinking about the issues concerning the Crimson Leaf Cafe.
After breakfast with his grandfather this morning, he rushed to Silverstone Group to meet Andy Bennet. He needed to discuss matters related to the Crimson Leaf Cafe.
However, just as he was about to talk to Andy, a sudden call from Vincent distracted him, leaving him unable to focus on what he wanted to say.
After that call, he felt compelled to return home and check Abigail’s condition. He was worried about why she had gone to the pharmacy early this morning. Sawyer is aware the chance is that he might be worried for nothing. Nonetheless, he couldn’t get rid of it until he knew she was okay.
’Is she unwell? Why didn’t she say anything? Instead, she asked me about our lunch!’ Countless questions swirled in his mind, adding pressure to set aside the Crimson Leaf Cafe issues and rush back to her side.
"Is everything alright, Sawyer?" Andy Bennet’s voice came from behind, causing Sawyer to let out a silent sigh as he slipped his cell phone into his trousers pocket before turning to face him.
Sawyer didn’t respond to Andy. Instead, he returned to the sofa and settled back in his opposite seat.
"What happened, Sawyer? Your face now shows your mind is anywhere but here, my friend—" Andy asked again.
Andy was still confused about why Sawyer had suddenly called him, saying he would stop by the office in fifteen minutes. He had no choice but to rush to the office to meet him. However, after arriving, Sawyer didn’t say anything; instead, the man received a phone call and ignored him. Plus, Sawyer visibly looked bothered by something urgent.
Sawyer finally turned his gaze toward Andy and answered, "I’m alright..." He tried to appear calm as he leaned back on the sofa, but his mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Abigail.
Andy Bennet raised an eyebrow, looking at Sawyer. He had known him for so many years; they had been best friends ever since. But this was the first time Sawyer had seemed distressed. Usually, he appeared carefree, calm, and optimistic. Even if someone were to threaten to bomb the city, Sawyer would likely remain unconcerned.
"Are you sure? You seem different from usual, man," Andy said, doubting Sawyer’s words.
"I am alright, Andy," Sawyer replied as he leaned forward to grab his coffee cup from the table and took a sip.
Andy Bennet smiled, trying to believe him, even though deep down he suspected his friend wasn’t entirely honest.
"Okay, then. I’ll take your word. I am glad to hear you’re alright, Sawyer..." Andy said with a slight smile before continuing, "Oh, right. Earlier, you mentioned that something important brought you here this early morning. Please don’t tell me you came to spy on my work..." He narrowed his eyes, trying to gauge Sawyer’s reaction.
Sawyer chuckled. "Well, my friend, I trust you. You don’t need to doubt my faith in you. However, I do want to ask you about Crimson Leaf Cafe."
"Crimson Leaf Cafe?" Andy frowned, surprised. This was the first time Sawyer had shown any interest in their business. Until now, he had never cared to discuss anything related to the Silverstone Group.
Sawyer nodded slightly and said, "Hmm, that’s under Silverstone Group, right?"
"Yes, that’s correct. It’s part of our food and beverage division. Why the sudden interest in our business, man?" Andy couldn’t help but ask, excited at the thought that Sawyer might want to work in the office.
Instead of answering, Sawyer stared at him with a sharp, cold gaze, creating tension in the room.
After a moment of silence, Sawyer finally spoke, "How can you handle this business, Andy? The outside news makes me worry about your ability to manage such a large company!"
Andy felt as if he had been struck by lightning. His expression turned tense at Sawyer’s unexpected criticism. This was the first time he had heard him question his ability to run the company.
Despite Sawyer’s sharp words, Andy didn’t feel angry or offended.
"Excuse me, Sawyer, but what news are you referring to that leads you to make such a statement?" Andy asked, pulling out his cell phone to check the news online. Just as he was about to open his browser, a text message from his secretary, Amelia Walker, appeared on the screen.
Andy hurriedly opened the text from Amelia.
"Sir, there’s something I need to report. This is an important and serious matter regarding Miss Abigail Snow at Crimson Leaf Cafe!"
A thin line appeared on Andy’s forehead as he turned his gaze back to Sawyer. His heart tightened when he saw Sawyer still staring at him with a cold expression. He began to suspect that what Sawyer was about to say was connected to Amelia’s message.
"I need time to speak to Amelia. Can you wait for me for a while?" Andy asked.
Sawyer understood that Andy must have been aware of what happened at Crimson Leaf Cafe, so he felt no need to wait. He stood up and said, "Andy, you are the CEO of Silverstone Group; how could you be so clueless? You only learned about this matter before I did? So you agree with my critique?"
Andy remained silent but nodded, unable to refute Sawyer’s words because they were true.
"That’s good if you understand. But I hope this is the first and last time something like this happens, Andy."
"No worries. I will look into the matter," Andy replied, even though he still didn’t fully grasp what transpired at Crimson Leaf Cafe. He felt the need to make a promise to Sawyer.
"I will ask Ethan to manage the negative news out there. But I need you to impose a heavy punishment on whoever is responsible for this situation!"
After expressing his thoughts, Sawyer walked past Andy, giving him a reassuring pat on the shoulder before leaving the room. He needed to return home immediately to check on Abigail’s condition.
"Thanks, man. I will call you later," Andy said, following him to the door.
