Chapter 142: Did I Catch A Cold?

Chapter 142: Did I Catch A Cold?

The next day, Abigail woke up with an annoying sore and dry throat. When she swallowed, it felt like she was eating a sharp razor. She cleared her throat several times before opening her eyes, but the bright light blinded her.

Glancing at the window, she was speechless to see the sunshine pouring into the room through the open curtain. Last night, she hadn’t had time to close them. After adjusting to the brightness, Abigail tried to get out of bed, but her head felt like it might crack open. The pain was intense.

’Ugh! What’s this? Did I catch a cold? Seriously?’ she wondered.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, she massaged her temples, hoping her headache would subside soon. However, after a few minutes, it still felt as if someone had hit her in the head with a giant hammer. It still hurts.

Abigail forced herself to look for medicine but found nothing.

"Gosh! I don’t even have any vitamins!" she sighed deeply, frustrated. She had forgotten to bring all her medicine and vitamins from Ryland’s house.

Continuing to massage her forehead, she took a glass of water and downed it quickly. Then she went to the bathroom before returning to bed, hoping that a bit more sleep would help her feel better.

Unfortunately, just as she closed her eyes for a moment, there was a knock at the front door. Her eyes shot wide again as she tried to hear the knocking.

"Sawyer?" Abigail muttered softly as she glanced at the clock on the nightstand. "He’s already here? Didn’t he say he would come for lunch? It’s only 8 a.m..."

Worrying about making him wait, Abigail quickly got out of bed, pulled her hair into a messy bun, and walked over to the door.

When she opened it, she was surprised to find Paul standing in front of her with a tray covered by a lid, just like what she had seen a few days ago when he first brought her breakfast.

"Good morning, Young Miss," he greeted respectfully. "Master Sawyer asked me to send your breakfast. Would you like me to bring it inside, or—"

Abigail was stunned. She didn’t recall that Sawyer would send her breakfast.

"I’ll take the tray, Paul," Abigail said, her voice hoarse.

Paul frowned slightly but did not comment as he handed her the tray. "Enjoy your breakfast, Miss Abigail. If you want a specific breakfast, you can ask me anytime."

"Thank you, Paul, for your kindness," she said with a faint smile. It felt weird to have someone cook her breakfast.

"That’s my duty, miss..."

"Oh, right, where is Sawyer? Is he still downstairs?" Abigail asked. She hadn’t checked her phone since last night and thought Sawyer might have reached out about breakfast.

"Master Sawyer left the house at seven this morning. But he told me he will be back to have lunch with you, miss," Paul explained.

Abigail nodded.

"Okay, thanks again, Paul, for the breakfast..."

After watching Paul leave, Abigail went inside her house. However, she didn’t eat her breakfast immediately. Instead, she placed the tray on the dining table and returned to her bedroom to look for her phone. She suddenly felt she needed to check if she had missed Sawyer’s phone call or text.

Abigail was speechless when she noticed her backpack on the floor near the sofa. Last night, she had thrown it there because she was too tired to move.

Soon, Abigail found her cell phone.

When she checked it, she chuckled when she realized it was off.

She hadn’t turned it on after her MRI test yesterday, so it made sense that she hadn’t heard any vibrations or ringtones.

Sighing deeply, Abigail returned to the kitchen. After making herself a hot tea, she sat at the dining table to enjoy Paul’s breakfast while checking her phone.

A few text messages from Sawyer immediately caught her attention, and she was stunned to see the time: they were sent right before midnight.

"Abby, I arrived home. I’m sorry for putting you in a difficult position today. I hope you are okay with meeting my family."

"Goodnight, my love. See you tomorrow!"

Abigail felt her headache subside as she read Sawyer’s messages. His sweetness warmed her heart, so she continued with his latest text.

"Good morning, Abby. I’m sorry I can’t have breakfast with you; I have a meeting outside. But I will ask Paul to bring you a delicious breakfast. See you at lunch. Love you, Abby!"

She quickly replied:

"Thank you, Sawyer; I’m enjoying my breakfast. See you soon."

After sending the text, Abigail continued to enjoy her meal, but her throat felt sore whenever she swallowed. Even warm tea didn’t ease the discomfort.

She felt frustrated. She needed to get fit because she planned to visit Orange Town tomorrow to see her grandma. After spending time with Sawyer’s grandma the night before, she really missed her grandmother.

Abigail was also concerned that if Sawyer discovered she was sick, he would panic and take her to the hospital again to see his doctor, Aaron.

...

After finishing her breakfast, Abigail decided to go to the nearest pharmacy to get the medicine she needed.

However,

Someone called her name when she left through the back door and walked toward the main gate.

"Good morning, Miss Abigail. Are you going out?"

Abigail stopped when she saw the long-haired man Sawyer had introduced to her the previous day walking toward her.

Suddenly, Abigail remembered she hadn’t discussed her newly assigned bodyguard with Sawyer. The hospital incident and meeting his family had distracted her.

"Good morning, Vincent. I need to buy something at the nearest shop," Abigail said as she continued toward the gate.

Vincent was taken aback by her response.

He paced his stride to catch up with his Boss’ lady and politely stopped before her, saying, "Excuse me, Miss Abigail. I’m really sorry I was late to prepare your car. Please give me a minute, ma’am. I’ll take the car and drive you there."
