Chapter 89: Why Love?

On the third day in the island, Astri and her spouses are walking around and seeing artisans working making mermen clothes and jewels.

Elder Jin invites Astri to try making some jewels and she accepts excitedly.

She decides to make a hair ornament for each of her spouses, now she will have something to do while she has free time.

She watches her boys playing catch together in the front yard of the cabin she is in. In the backyard, her spouses are training and burning some of their energy with the Aquaterrans. She can already see herself pregnant soon with all this lovemaking that they’re making her go through.

Yuki is practicing standing and she’s already capable of standing by herself. Astri was cheering for her to try by herself and then Yuki started to give the first steps.

Astri cheers loudly and happily, Yuki falls on her butt laughing at her mom’s reaction. Everyone comes running to see Astri rolling on the ground hugging Yuki.

"What is it?" They ask curiously.

"Look!!" Astri sits and then sits Yuki too.

Astri moves a little away from Yuki and Yuki stands up slowly. Then Yuki starts to walk slowly and tries not to stumble.

All of them cheer for her and Wayde picks her up hugging and kissing her all over as a very proud father.

The others do the same while Astri jumps on her sons to cheer with them and make them feel loved too.

"By Nature! I can’t even stand! You two are so strong!! My beautiful handsome protectors. I’m so proud of you!!" She hugs them too and they happily enjoy it.

Astri is always a loving mother to them and every day plays with them and tells them stories, and they love her very much. Knowing their mother is proud of them makes them happy.

During their nap, Astri keeps working on the gifts to her spouses. They don’t know what she’s doing, but they notice she’s enjoying her time so they leave her be.

In the afternoon, her spouses take care of the cubs and she decides to draw under the shade of a tree. Koa finds her and then he sits on her side to watch her drawing.

She was painting the scene of Koa playing with dolphins and Ferd in front of the crystal room to entertain the cubs.

"It’s so beautiful. You have so many gifts." He says.

"Thank you. I love these colors. I will frame this to hang it on the wall. This will be a great memory for my cubs." She speaks.

After finishing one more layer of paint, she leaves it to dry. Then she takes another one and it’s when Koa noticed it was a portrait of him.

"Is it me?" He asks.

"Yes. Doesn’t look like you?"

"It does.. I don’t look this good, actually."

She chuckles.

"For me you look." Her answer made him blush. "Stay there. I want to get some more details."

Her attentive and sharp eyes looking at him so deeply like that is making him boil. He didn’t forget about what she said before, that if she had to choose more spouses he would be one of them.

"Are you all right?" She asks as she draws him.

"What? Yes. I’m fine... why do you ask?" He asks.

"You look anxious. Is that because of what I said?"

He doesn’t know how to answer. He feels horrible and weak not knowing what to say. In the past, when females would ask him to become spouses, he never had any hard time. Now, he doesn’t know what to do.

"I’m sorry if I made you feel this way. Don’t mind what I said. I have no patience when people ask me about this. I was raised not even wanting to have mates. I thought I would die alone and now I have five mates and some think it’s just a few mates. Sometimes I say my mind forgetting I can hurt someone." She says.

"No. Don’t apologize.. Why do you love your spouses?" He asks.

"They taught me how to trust someone again. I know what is not being loved and being used for the benefit of others. No one deserves to be treated like an object. I have wounds in my heart, but they also have theirs. It’s not fair hurting their hearts just because they’re males." She explains.

He smiles and nods.

"You’re unique... I’m sorry if I don’t know what to do. I must look like a useless male and I should have simply said yes."

"No. I never thought that. You’re the leader of this tribe. You have a lot on your back. You never chose a female because you know you have your responsibilities as a leader and that sometimes you would need to look at your people first. That’s not a weakness. I admire you for that. You and Lee are similar in this matter. You’re very determined. Please, don’t feel forced to do anything. I want your happiness and that doesn’t mean it has to be with me." She says.

He smiles and nods. After this talk, the energy around them became lighter and they started to talk about other things. She asked if there were beastmen from the deep part of the ocean. The ocean is bottomless and, like the Human World, it might have species that no one ever saw.

"What do you think you are doing, Koa?" They hear from behind them.

Astri didn’t even look back because she already knew who was by the screeching voice. Koa looks back and sees Xandra’s face from the other side of the coral fence.

"What are you doing here, Xandra?" Koa asks.

"I ask you the same. Why are you here? And why are you all smiles for this frail female?"

"She’s not frail. I’m here for many reasons. I’m the leader, that’s reason enough for you not to ask anything."

Astri sighs, feeling pity for females too since they are taught that they need to be selfish all the time without having limits.

"It’s all right, Koa. Soon the others will come dead hungry and I promised to make dinner. Thank you for talking to me." Astri says putting her painting tools back to the pencil cases.

"I can help you." Koa says.

"Why are you giving her attention? Even her males don’t care about her for not making her dinner. Don’t need to pity the weak all the time, Koa." Xandra sneers.

Astri rolls her eyes and Koa notices her rolling eyes.

"What was that thing you did with your eyes?" He asks, curious.

"My signature expression that means: save me from this sh*t show." She answers and he laughs, making Xandra fume in anger. "All right. Your head will explode. I’m leaving. Peace."

Astri carries her things and starts walking inside. Koa follows Astri, and ignores Xandra. However, Xandra smiles and walks around, getting inside, and finds the others training in the backyard. They decided to go back to training since the cubs were napping. She waltzs inside, with her tiny clothes, and sits to watch them doing everything to look sexy.

She goes to take cups of water to bring them, and stealthily takes a little bottle from her hairpiece. She pours some in the cups and then brings it to everyone to drink.

Claud felt Nature warning about danger, and instantly he worried about Astri, Cyprian didn’t notice but he took a cup and then, from nowhere, they saw white wings passing quickly and beating Cyprian’s hand.

Everyone was shocked and then Astri looked at Cyprian, checking if he drank anything.

"What is the problem?" Cyprian asks.

Astri looks at Xandra, her energy has completely changed now. Claud reads Xandra’s mind and now he understands why Astri is so angry.

"This female poisoned our water." Claud says.

Koa was arriving when he heard what Claud said.

"It’s a grave accusation that you’re doing. Do you have any proof of that?" Xandra asks Claud.

Xandra is well trained to not expose any reaction even if she’s caught.

"Then drink this water. You brought it here for them. Prove we’re wrong." Astri says and shows a cup for Xandra.

Xandra looks at the cup and then looks at Astri.

"I’m not thirsty. Why don’t you take it and find the proof you want?" Xandra asks Astri.

"You low female. How dare you to..?!" Beau is angry and Astri holds his arm, interrupting him.

"You chose the wrong female to face, Xandra." Astri says.

Astri raises one of her hands and Xandra feels her body get locked in place. She tries to move and her body doesn’t move an inch.

"What.. What is happening?" Xandra says scared.

Astri raises Xandra’s body and then throws on the ground strongy, making Xandra gasp for air. Then throws her on the coral fence and she cries in pain. Astri walks to Xandra and holds her face strongly, making her face Astri.

With this touch, Astri passes Xandra the memory of Nature telling her what she was pouring into the water and trying to give to Astri’s spouses and friends.

Xandra looks at Astri in despair, fearing for her life.
