Chapter 17: Seven-Treasure Glazed Fruit
Near the area where they had teleported, beside the cliff face, there was a hidden spring.
The spring formed a pool of water roughly the size of a small house. The water from the pool flowed into a fissure beneath the cliff, and ultimately, no one knew where it led.
In the pool, next to the spring, grew a plant that rose in layers like a pagoda, bearing fruits that resembled seven-colored glazed glass.
Wang Lian was the first to recognize the fruit as the Seven Treasures Glazed Fruit, an extremely rare and precious exotic fruit. Eating it could open one's wisdom, sharpen the mind, enhance memory, and improve comprehension.
Simply put, the Seven Treasures Glazed Fruit could increase a hidden intelligence attribute; calling it priceless would not be an exaggeration.
Previously, Wang Lian and her group had wanted to pick the Seven Treasures Glazed Fruit, but inside the spring pool lived a mystical spirit that was neither fully human nor fully fish, guarding the fruit.
They had sent out pets to test it, but all were instantly killed by that fish-like mystical spirit’s strike. It was estimated that the fish spirit’s strength was at least level eight, possibly even level ten. They had no choice but to give up for the time being and figure out how to raise their own levels first.
Now that Qin Ziyu had advanced to level seven first, and the others had reached level six, further upgrades wouldn’t be as easy as before. Even with the right environment and resources, plus sufficient strength, the fastest it might take to level up would be ten to fifteen days. The higher the level, the harder it became. How long it would take to reach level ten was unknown, which was why Wang Lian made this suggestion.
“Trying is fine too,” Gongsun Zhuo finally agreed with Wang Lian’s proposal. After all, everyone else was eager to try, and his refusal probably wouldn’t have stopped them.
“Chen Guan, we are all classmates, not outsiders. I’ll be straightforward with you,” Wang Lian said to Chen Guan before they set off. “We discovered the Seven Treasures Glazed Fruit before we met you, and your strength isn’t enough to play a key role. So when the time comes, you won’t get a share of the fruit.”“If I am of no use, I naturally shouldn’t receive any fruit,” Chen Guan nodded in agreement. It was fair.
Seeing Chen Guan was so understanding, everyone relaxed considerably. Wang Lian smiled and said, “Don’t worry. Now that you’ve joined our team, we’ll help you level up. Your level and strength will improve quickly.”
They followed the stream back, walking in the mountain ravine for quite a while until they reached a dead end. The cliff in front and on both sides rose into the clouds, covered with green plants that looked like pink trumpet flowers. Yet there was no sign of a spring or pool.
“Chen Guan, have you ever read ‘The Peach Blossom Spring’?” Lu Teng smiled mysteriously at Chen Guan as he dismounted the Ghost-Headed Sheep and approached the cliff, pushing aside the dense plants to reveal a narrow fissure in the cliff barely wide enough for a person to enter sideways.
“I have read it, but I’ve mostly forgotten the content,” Chen Guan replied.
“No problem. Then let’s see a real Peach Blossom Spring,” Lu Teng said, stepping sideways into the cliff fissure. The others followed in single file.
Chen Guan hurried to catch up, moving sideways through the cliff. At first, it felt cramped, but the path gradually widened until they could walk normally.
However, the fissure was rugged, rising and falling unevenly, making the walk difficult. They didn’t know how long they had been walking when suddenly the path opened up. They had exited the mountain’s interior into a sea of peach-pink flowers.
The flower trees were not very tall, the tallest just above human height, with branches stretching out covered in small flowers resembling velvet, like pink snow blanketing the branches. The fragrant aroma was intoxicating, relaxing the mind without anyone realizing it.
Chen Guan surveyed the surroundings and realized this was actually an enclosed valley. The valley was surrounded by mountains on all sides, and aside from the fissure they had entered through, there seemed to be no other exit.
Unless someone could scale the mountains, discovering this place would be nearly impossible.
The surrounding peaks were probably thousands of meters high, with cliff faces almost vertical at ninety degrees. Crossing them would not be easy.
“So, how is it? Nice place, right?” Lu Teng asked Chen Guan with a playful grin.
“It’s a good place. I’m impressed you guys actually found this,” Chen Guan said curiously, wondering how they had discovered it.
“It was a coincidence. Wang Lian was chasing an Evil Cute Rabbit and accidentally found the cliff fissure hidden behind vines. Otherwise, no one would have guessed there was a secret world here,” Lu Teng explained with a smile.
As they talked and walked, the valley’s scenery was beautiful but somewhat monotonous. Apart from these flowering trees, no other plants were visible, and no mystical spirits appeared. It truly felt like a secluded paradise.
Of course, these trees were not peach trees, and Qin Ziyu and the others didn’t know what kind of plant they were.
The valley was small. Before long, they arrived at another cliff where a small pool of water lay. The jade-green pool was incredibly clean and transparent like crystal. Bubbles constantly rose from the center, like boiling water.
Of course, the water was not boiling. The bubbles were from underground spring water. The water in the pool eventually flowed into a narrow fissure under the cliff, only a few fingers wide, with no visible exit. Yet the sound of flowing water could be faintly heard from inside.
At the spot where the spring water surged, a plant that looked like colorful glazed glass grew from the pool bottom, protruding from the water. The part above the surface shimmered with flowing light and color. Its strange stalks overlapped in layers like a pagoda, becoming thinner toward the top. There were more than a dozen layers, and at the top, only a peach-shaped tip remained.
On this glazed pagoda-like plant hung bell-shaped fruits, each about the size of a pigeon egg. Inside, rosy light flowed. Just standing at a distance, one could sense the profound primordial energy fluctuations within the fruits.
Chen Guan’s gaze did not linger on these things but fixed intently on the clear pool water. Under the water sat a mystical spirit glowing with golden light, cross-legged on a large stone.
The mystical spirit looked bizarre, with a human body and a fish head. Fins grew on its back, arms, and legs, and its entire body was covered in black scales.
However, each scale bore golden patterns resembling blooming lotuses. From afar, the spirit looked like it was a dark golden color.
Around the fish man’s neck hung a necklace with beads of varying sizes and colors. The material looked somewhat similar to the Gabala bracelet Chen Guan had previously obtained.
Its hands were like those of a human but covered with fine scales in black with golden patterns, too small to discern the exact design.
In its left hand, it held a grayish-white, semicircular vessel resembling a bowl, filled with a blood-colored liquid that surged but did not mix with the water and did not overflow.
In its right hand, it gripped a golden metal object, pointed at both ends with a handle in the middle. Its design and pattern were extremely intricate, and Chen Guan had no idea what it was.
Chen Guan was surprised—this mystical spirit possessed three mystical treasures.
