Chapter 427 Cheap Dad is Right Here!

Chapter 427: Chapter 427 Cheap Dad is Right Here!

In the darkness, the man’s phone suddenly rang.

Ji Chao and Ji Ze took Lu Nuonuo to the garden to set off fireworks. They were very happy to see their mother today, which reminded them of their father whom they hadn’t seen in a long time. So they pulled out a phone and made a video call to Ji Muye.

"Dad!" Ji Ze’s voice was bright, and he smiled cheerfully at him.

Ji Muye gazed at his son’s eyes where a gentle light flickered, and he softly responded with a hum.

At this moment, Ji Ze flipped the camera, and Ji Muye saw Ji Chao, who was lighting fireworks for his little sister. The Little Dumpling’s face was full of excitement.

Jing Zheng squatted beside the two kids, holding a sparkler and waiting for Ji Chao to light it. This grown adult seemed to blend into the scene with the three children seamlessly, without any awkwardness.

"Xiao Ze, who are you talking to on the phone? Come over quickly to play."

"In a moment, Uncle, you guys go ahead and play first."

He turned the camera back to his face and said with a beaming smile, "Dad, we’re going to set off fireworks now. Have you had dinner yet?"

In the quiet backseat of the car, through his son’s camera, Ji Muye glimpsed a world enclosed within walls. His voice was lazy and unhurried as he said, "I’ve eaten."

Ma Sai in the driver’s seat cast a glance at the untouched dinner on the passenger seat and silently sighed inwardly.

Ji Muye chatted with his youngest son for a while, listening to the boy talk about his archery practice and recent progress. As a father, he felt a surge of joy and learned to offer affirmations and praise to his child.

When he didn’t see his mischievous younger brother coming over for a long time, Ji Chao walked over to see what was going on. Upon spotting their father on the other end of the phone, he realized that his little brother was whispering secrets to their dad.

Lu Nuonuo, being Ji Chao’s little shadow, would always follow him wherever he went.

"Brother, why aren’t you playing with the fireworks?" she asked, puzzled as she looked at Ji Ze, who normally loved to play around.

Seeing his little sister tiptoeing to look at the phone, Ji Ze pointed the screen directly at Lu Nuonuo to show her and said, "Sis, I’m chatting with Dad. How about you chat with him too?"

After speaking, he handed the phone to his sister and went off to grab some sparklers to play with.

Cheap dad?

The Little Dumpling held up the phone and saw Ji Muye’s face appearing on the screen. Big eyes met big eyes, and she gave him a polite smile.

She greeted him with twinkling eyes, "Hello!"

Ji Muye: "..."

His daughter truly treated him as a stranger.

"Nuonuo, Xiao Chao, Xiao Ze, step back a little. Uncle is about to set off the big fireworks," Jing Zheng said.

Two boxes of giant fireworks were placed in front of Jing Zheng. Once he confirmed that the children were at a safe distance, he quickly lit the fuse and ran over to scoop up the Little Dumpling, covering her ears.

Skyrocketing fireworks blossomed into dazzling lights in the night sky.

Lu Nuonuo clutched her brother’s phone tightly. Hearing the sound of fireworks from the other side of the video, she went, "Eh?"

She turned her head toward the direction of the estate’s gate. Could it be... that cheap dad was at the gate?

Ji Chao and Ji Ze had no idea their father was at the estate’s entrance. Meanwhile, the phone was in Lu Nuonuo’s hands as they stood beside Jing Zheng watching the fireworks overhead.

Ji Muye saw his daughter’s eyes practically glued to the camera lens, and his lips lifted slightly. He too raised his eyes to look at the fireworks blooming brilliantly above the estate, dazzling and fitting for a reunion.

In truth, tonight was also a reunion night for Lu Xining, her children, family, and friends.

Only it didn’t include him.

The Little Dumpling tapped her uncle’s hand, signaling that she wanted to get down.

She ended the video call.

Then she tugged on her two brothers’ hands and quietly told them that cheap dad might actually be at the estate’s gate.

Ji Chao and Ji Ze exchanged a look and immediately decided to go out to take a look.

Lu Nuonuo spotted the kids’ car parked in the courtyard and smartly suggested, "Brothers, let’s drive the little cars!"

The toy cars in the estate were bought by Lu Xining for the three kids to play with on her last visit. Over the past few days, the kids had been joyfully driving these little cars all around the estate grounds, the smooth, flat surfaces making it especially fun.

After the call abruptly ended, Ji Muye’s eyes lingered on the phone screen with a trace of disappointment. He rolled down the car window to look at the fireworks still blooming in the sky above the estate, lost in thought, completely missing the sight of three tiny toy cars speeding toward the estate’s gate.

"Sis, drive slower, you might fall!"

With her older brother’s reminder, Lu Nuonuo, wearing a bunny-themed safety helmet, nodded her head. The bunny ears on her helmet bobbed as she nodded, but her driving speed on the toy car didn’t slow down.

Ji Ze followed closely behind Lu Nuonuo’s car.

Ji Chao, always the cautious one, drove the slowest of the three.

Under the fireworks-lit sky, the three toy cars raced toward the gate.

Jing Zheng, noticing the trio switched to playing with the cars after watching the fireworks, shouted loudly, "Hey, you three little rascals, drive slower!"

Seeing the Little Dumpling zooming toward the estate’s gate faster than her two brothers, Jing Zheng yelled at her, "Lu Nuonuo, are you planning to take off? Drive slower—"

Lu Xining, hearing the commotion, stepped outside to see the three kids neatly driving toward the estate’s gate.

Even though there were patrolling security guards at the gate, she still thought they were driving a little too far.

She picked up the intercom and addressed her daughter, "Nuonuo, you can drive the cars, but don’t go so far. Now turn back and bring your brothers back with you, okay?"

Lu Nuonuo’s car had an intercom attached. After hearing her mom’s words, she glanced at the estate’s gate looming near and still wanted to see if cheap dad was really there.

"Mom, I’m almost at the finish line, I’ll be back soon~"

Lu Xining instructed the guards at the gate to keep an eye on the three kids. Once they reached the gate, she told them to guide the kids back promptly.

At the gate of the estate.

Ji Muye looked at the fireworks fading in the sky above the estate and the darkened phone screen. Glancing at his watch, he told Ma Sai in the driver’s seat firmly, "Head to the airport."

Under the night sky, the trio of toy cars came to a perfect stop at the estate’s gate.

Lu Nuonuo hopped out of her car and ran to the gate, looking around. She didn’t see her cheap dad’s car.

Ji Chao and Ji Ze followed her, running to the gate, and were disappointed not to find the black Maybach.

"Nuonuo, you might’ve heard wrong. Dad’s probably still in the country," Ji Chao said.

Ji Ze chimed in agreement, "Yeah, Sis, maybe it’s just a coincidence that someone near Dad was also setting off fireworks."

But deep down, Lu Nuonuo had a strong gut feeling: cheap dad was definitely here!

After all...

Fireworks matching in coincidence was possible, but how could the "boom boom boom" rhythm of the explosions be exactly the same?

"Uncle Guard, can you open the gate for us, please?"

Under the Little Dumpling’s sweet persuasion, the guard said he would need to get Lu Xining’s approval first.

Recognizing that her daughter must have discovered or encountered something, Lu Xining agreed to let the trio wander just a little further at the gate.

She also glanced toward the estate entrance, a thought flashing through her mind, brows furrowing slightly.

Could it be...
