Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen -
Chapter 734: Boarding
Chapter 734: Boarding
Yarin's POV:
When I asked Spil if he knew anything about the old tower, he gave a definite answer.
"In fact, that woman is no longer a threat at all," he said. "She is completely dead inside, and her soul is trapped in a foolish body. She can't experience rebirth unless she dies."
"What happened yesterday afternoon, then?"
Faced with my question, he fell silent again.
We stood in silence for a while, and in the end, I was the one who gave in, muttering, "Fine, you are the person who keeps secrets."
"The Queen will tell you," Spil suddenly said with conviction, but other than making me curious, it didn't help much because he refused to answer any more of my questions.
Sigh, this introverted guy! He was done if he remained like this in front of Aunt Carolyn! But as Spil said, my mom called me over and told me what happened last night.
I finally understood why Spil was so certain because these things were related to the Lily of the Valley.
I knew some things about Adele before, but it was limited to her attempts to harm the Lycans and the consequences she suffered. However, Adele's true identity-my goodness, who would investigate the family background of a prisoner?
So when I heard that Adele was the daughter of the Southern Duke, I was completely stunned. The Wolf-Witch War was only briefly mentioned in my history textbooks, and I couldn't imagine that a war hero would have such a ridiculous, tragic love story.
"Afterward, Adele was adopted by the night magus Kafka and indoctrinated with extremist thoughts. Thus, she grew to hate the Lycans, which was why she attempted to create chaos among them back then," my mother sighed. "But ultimately, the Lycans did owe her mother and her, so for all these years, I kept her secretly imprisoned rather than executing her."
"And the Southern Duke? What does he think of Adele?" Throughout the story, I realized that the Southern Duke had never directly faced Adele. It seemed he chose to avoid her.
My mom sighed softly and didn't answer my question but said, "Three of the Lily of the Valley operatives escaped. Although I did order everything to make them lose their ability to resist, the fact that they were able to kill fully armed guards means they still had some tricks up their sleeves that we didn't know about. Their ability to endure and strike after arriving at the Lycan Pack makes it hard to say if they have other intentions.
"For now, the Lily of the Valley has only taken action against Adele, so I brought her into the palace and kept her under close watch. Although she herself is not a threat, this is still related to the Lily of the Valley.
"This organization is cunning, and keeping Adele close serves two purposes: it makes it easier to monitor her, but it also brings potential danger. So after discussing with your father, we think it's better for you and your siblings to leave the palace for now temporarily. What do you think?"
Leave the palace?
From childhood to now, I hadn't lived outside the palace for very long. Even the time spent at Silvermoon Pack was already considered long. Living outside the palace was undoubtedly novel, but it couldn't replace my familiarity with it.
However, I knew this was a careful decision my parents had considered. Leaving the palace would be safer than staying near a prisoner who might pose a danger.
So I said, "I have no objections, Mom. Let's ask Heller and Cynthia."
When Cynthia heard that we were leaving the palace, she didn't react much and even seemed quite excited. Heller was hesitant; he was not fond of socializing with strangers and felt uneasy about the world outside the palace.
I held his hand and comforted him, "Even if we leave the palace, we won't be separated. Cynthia and I will be with you."
So, in the end, he agreed too.
Instead of choosing a royal estate or villa, my mom selected a familiar noble family-the Charlies Family-for our new residence.
Her friend and capable ally, the lady of Mirror Lake, Aunt Jordin Charlies, belonged to this family, and the current lady of the house, Carey Teal, used to be our nanny for a while when we were kids.
Compared to cold and icy estates, the Charlies Family was undoubtedly more familiar to us.
Strictly speaking, the Charlies Family was not a very ancient noble family. Even though Madam Sheedy had a noble title, when she married, the nobles gossiped that she was marrying down because the Charlies Family had produced several officials for generations but never had a formal noble title.
It wasn't until Aunt Jordin's parents died on the battlefield that the Charlies Family finally saw its first countess.
Therefore, the Charlies Family had a very relaxed family atmosphere, not burdened with as many strange rules as some self-proclaimed old aristocratic families.
Lady Carey was kind-hearted, and I was grateful for her care for us. When I was mischievous at six or seven years old, I even wanted to give myself a couple of slaps when I thought about it, but she was always patient with us, and I could tell it wasn't a forced act of kindness but genuine affection from the heart.
