Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen -
Chapter 733: The Old Tower
Chapter 733: The Old Tower
Yarin's POV:
After the party, Spil disappeared, and Cynthia and Heller asked me where he had gone, but I could only say I didn't know.
Sometime in the middle of the night, he returned without a sound. When I woke up in the morning, I stepped on a soft and warm 'blanket' in a daze, startling me awake only to find it was him.
"Where did you go last night?" I yawned and asked. "I slept without waiting for you and left the door open."
"I attended the Queen's meeting last night," Spil said, sounding slightly tired after an all- nighter.
"A meeting? What meeting?"
"It was about some secrets."
Spil refused to say more, insisting it was something the Queen demanded to keep confidential and that it involved the reputations of others, so he couldn't casually speak about it.
I knew he had this conservative character, so I didn't push.
It was hard to imagine Spil eavesdropping on the rooftop-of course, my mother couldn't explain why she had a 'butler' attending such a secret meeting, so he was probably a secret guest that other attendees didn't know about. A wolf lying on the palace roof must have looked majestic, but given the dark and windy night, I hoped no strange rumors spread.
Aunt Carolyn and the Southern Duke would stay longer, and I happily told Spil it was a good opportunity for him to pursue his crush.
However, he seemed somewhat indifferent to the idea. Faced with my confusion, he said, "I don't think Ms. Carolyn has the mood for love affairs lately, Yarin. She's encountered some things, and her heart must be unsettled. I shouldn't bother her at this time."
"Some things? What do you mean? Is it related to the secret you heard last night?"
But Spil refused to tell me and sent me away to have breakfast.
"Fine," I didn't insist. "Are you coming with us?"
"I'm not hungry," he said. He seemed not to need to eat or drink. I had never seen him eat, but maybe he went out to hunt when he disappeared. Who knows?
Although Spil refused to tell me, his reaction precisely confirmed my speculation. Aunt Carolyn had encountered something, and it was related to the secret discussed at the meeting last night. The Southern Duke was also present, so I even doubted his involvement.
The news I heard during breakfast further inclined me toward the latter.
Cynthia sent away all the servants and asked Heller and me mysteriously, "Guess who has moved into the palace as a guest?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Heller immediately answered, "It must be the Southern Duke. Everyone in the palace knows about it."
Cynthia shook her head, saying, "I wasn't asking about the Southern Duke, besides him, there was another mysterious guest who moved in last night. It was in the old tower. Several werewolf grandmasters were there for quite some time last night, even Aunt Dorothy was there. I think this guest must have a mysterious and important identity; otherwise, why would so many people be involved in dealing with that old tower?"
She really knew how to pique our curiosity. Heller and I immediately took the bait, repeatedly asking who it was, but Cynthia only hummed and said it was a secret, not telling us.
That little mischief, intentionally playing with us!
After teasing us, she finally spilled the beans, "All right, I won't tease you anymore. But even if I didn't tell you, Mom and Dad will eventually mention it. Let's just get scared a few hours earlier now."
Cynthia led us to the window, from where we could see the pointed top of the old tower not far away.
"Do you see it? The old tower that has been empty for many years now has a new resident since last night," Cynthia pointed to that top and said. "Do you know the Lycan Pack's estate to the southwest? The new resident is the person who used to be imprisoned there."
Heller and I were startled. Wasn't she referring to Adele?
The insane witch, the secret prisoner, why was she suddenly transferred to the palace?
I thought this might be related to last night's meeting; otherwise, it would be too coincidental. Why would Mom suddenly relocate Adele without any reason?
At this moment, Heller said, "Speaking of which, I saw Mom seem to have summoned many people for a meeting last night. I saw many people enter her study, but I only saw light clusters representing souls, and I couldn't see who they were."
"Who else could it be?" Cynthia said. "After the party, the ministers and nobles all left directly, so the attendees could only be those living in the palace."
So, it turned out that I was the only one left in the dark last night; Heller and Cynthia had already noticed some clues about the meeting.
"If it's related to Adele, perhaps only the Southern Duke..." I murmured. "I heard that the adults had to leave for something last afternoon, is it related to this?"
