Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen -
Chapter 713: Hiding Place
Chapter 713: Hiding Place
Yarin's POV:
To be honest, I was really happy when Lily could have come to the Lycan Pack, but since she didn't want to, I didn't want to see this naturally free-spirited girl forced into a life she disliked.
During that time, I experienced another side of Aunt Teresa, not the kind and amiable aunt she usually was to us. When it came to her own children, she could be quite cold-hearted. "After I can move, I'll leave this place immediately," Lily said.
"I feel that if I don't leave now, it'll be difficult to do so later. I'll be monitored like a death row inmate in prison," she continued.
"Well, in any case, you know I'll always support your decision." I could sense Lily's anxiety. "Where are you planning to go? Do you need any help from me?"
"I might go to some inland pack. The border near Jasper has been restless recently, so I won't go to the human side for now. As for other things, it's enough that you're willing to listen to my rants. I couldn't share my plans with anyone around me at that moment, driving me crazy."
Suddenly, I remembered that Lily was attending school. What would happen to her education if she didn't accept Aunt Teresa's arrangements?
Upon hearing my question, Lily said, "I'll apply for a leave of absence from the current school. I think my mother won't be so insistent on sending me to the Lycan Pack a year from then. Even if she didn't give up, it wouldn't matter. At least, I'd have a year of freedom, and she'd understand I'd never live according to her plans. She could never control me."
"All right then, about the location, what do you think of the Golden Bell Pack?"
"The Golden Bell Pack? I don't have any impression of it."
"The Alpha there was once a relative of the Evaria Family. Since the fall of the Evaria Family, the local Alpha has been trying to distance themselves from the royal family to show their loyalty.
"Currently, the pack is completely under my mom's control, and due to its special history, it's essentially insignificant in other packs. So if you temporarily hide there, Aunt Teresa wouldn't be able to find you anytime soon, and you'd have a few more peaceful days."
There was a prolonged silence on the phone, making me nervous as I replayed what I had just said - did I unintentionally say something that touched a sore spot for Lily?
After a dozen seconds, Lily spoke softly, "Thank you, Darin. I sincerely appreciate having a friend like you who considers me."
I sighed in relief and replied casually, "Don't mention it, Lily. I knew you'd do the same for me if our situations were reversed, right?"
"Of course," came a light laugh from the other end. "Thank you, my good friend."
We chatted for a while longer before ending the call. Lily couldn't hide in the bathroom for too long; otherwise, the security and nurses would come to check on her.
"You were on the phone just now, right?" Heller pushed the door open and said, "Want coconut pudding? Bertha made it fresh."
I took the glass bowl and scooped a spoonful of cold, milky-white pudding into my mouth. It was rich, aromatic, not overly sweet, and a well-made dessert.
But I could no longer taste the same flavor as before.
Kara was skilled in cooking; for us kids, she had learned almost all the dessert recipes
circulating in the market. She often made coconut pudding for us because it was a dessert that Heller, Cynthia, and I all enjoyed.
Coconut pudding would always exist, but the person who used to cook it would never come back.
We silently finished the dessert, and Heller said, "I miss Kara."
So did I. Sometimes, I instinctively called for Kara to help, but as soon as I called her name, I realized she was no longer there.
Even the Moon Palace had disappeared, becoming a phantom in my spiritual world. Where was the soul of Kara? Had she already reincarnated? Or was her spirit wandering somewhere on Earth, paving a path to peace for those who would come after her?
"I will never forget her," I said. "And I will never forget to avenge her."
As expected, my mom received a request from the Southern Duke asking her to take care of his daughter, who had returned from studying abroad.
"She only mentioned that she was coming back, who would have thought it would be so soon? The girl was almost at the border when she told me. I had no choice but to ask you to look after her. I went to pick her up the next day."
We were excited when Aunt Carolyn arrived at the Lycan Pack by noon. We wondered what interesting news or things she would bring back this time.
Since Spil said he would protect me, he stuck close to me. Of course, it wasn't to the extent of being together 24/7; most of the time, he wandered around the palace, probably patrolling like a wolf securing its territory.
"Guests are coming for lunch, do you want to come back and meet them?" I asked him during breakfast. "Aunt Carolyn is very nice, and we all like her."
