Chapter 502: The Because
Chapter 502: The Because
Lucia stared angrily at Gastone’s car parked outside. She wanted to confront him, to yell at him for being part of the inhumane business. It hurt her heart to know that the person she thought she could potentially depend on was the same person she hated.
Gastone saw Lucia standing by the door with an awful facial expression. He only thought she was still in a bad mood and nothing more. He was leaning at the side of the car, waiting for Lucia and opened the door for her.
"Tsk," Lucia flicked his tongue before offering a smile. Since she knew what Gastone had been doing behind her back, she wanted to use him to gather additional details as well.
"Let’s go before the rain comes back. You don’t want to get wet, right?" Gastone stated and opened the door, gesturing for Lucia to enter.
Lucia shrugged as she went inside. She tried her best to calm down and not snap at Gastone. She took several deep breaths and waited for him to enter.
"Do you want to have some coffee?" Lucia asked nicely.
The shift in Lucia’s attitude confused Gastone, as he could still smell the aggravation seeping out of her pores.
"It’s already in the middle of the night. You can’t sleep if you drink coffee now," Gastone stated in concern. He glanced at Lucia and saw her squinting at him.
"Oh, okay. Are you not hungry?" Lucia asked again. She wanted to create a decent conversation between them before she would go ask serious questions.
"I am not, but do you want to eat?" Gastone thought Lucia was hungry, but she was only using questions to hint.
Lucia rolled her eyes and slumped back in her seat. "No, but do you like to eat steak?"
"Yes, of couse," Gastone replied innocently. Eating steak was part of his daily meal since he was a werewolf.
"I see. Have you eaten the steak sold at Daniel’s restaurant?" Lucia asked slowly, her voice low but precise.
Gastone glanced at Lucia before focusing back on the road. "That’s a weird question, but no. I haven’t gone to any of his businesses," he replied. That was when he remembered he had actually went to the farm that Daniel owned.
Lucia saw Gastone gulp when he said his words. "Hah!? Oh, really? Then perhaps we should go there anytime. I heard they are famous," she said teasingly while observing for any slight difference in his facial expression.
"Have you gone to their restaurant?" Gastone asked in return. However, he was met with silence.
Lucia covered her mouth as her stomach churned. The memories of her eating an actual human flesh came back like a storm, and she wanted to puke it out.
"Are you okay, Lucia!?" Gastone shouted in worry. He immediately parked the car on the side of the road and focused his attention on her. "You’re not feeling well!"
Lucia hurriedly opened the door and vomited on the ground. However, it was mostly saliva and water.
Gastone carefully tapped Lucia’s back to support her. At first, he was confused by why Lucia reacted negatively, but after a few seconds of thinking, he understood.
"Lucia... have you eaten the steak sold at Daniel’s family restaurant?" Gastone questioned slowly. He felt the horror when Lucia nodded her head.
Gastone’s hand trembled, but he remained calm. He already knew the meat sold as steak was made from a human, which was why the restaurant was extremely famous for its ’unique’ flavour.
"I see. Here, drink some water," Gastone handed the bottle to Lucia and waited for her until she was fine.
Lucia closed the door loudly as she chugged the bottled water in one go.
The ambience between them could have been more relaxed. They had a lot of questions running through their heads, but they couldn’t say them out loud.
"Gastone, you said earlier that I should let a man lead me. Does that mean... its you?" Lucia asked before gazing into Gastone’s electric blue eyes.
"You can depend on me when its hard for you to handle it alone. I know you have plans pilled up and the things you needed to do, but I’m here for you," Gastone muttered gently. His words were filled with care and adoration for Lucia.
"But... the question is, can I trust you?" Lucia asked firmly. She was still in doubt, but she wanted Gastone to be at her side and not at Daniel’s.
Gastone frowned. He moved his body to fully face Lucia to show his sincerity. "Lucia, I know I may look like a person that you can’t trust, and my methods... are very untrustworthy. But all I can say is that you rely on me even if I may not look like one."
The gentleness of Gastone’s voice made Lucia’s heart skip a bit. His tone sounded like he was begging her, but it was also full of love.
Lucia opened her mouth to ask a couple more questions, but only one word escaped. "Why?"
Gastone chuckled. He faced the road and sighed deeply. He wanted to scream that Lucia was his mate and they were supposed to be together, but he couldn’t. "You won’t understand even if I tell you."
"Try me," Lucia insisted.
"You’ll only think of me weirdly. I don’t want to ruin what we have right now," Gastone explained, hoping Lucia would stop, or else he would say the thing he wanted the most.
"I won’t. I promise," Lucia said, moving closer to Gastone. I want to know why I should trust you even if you’re not trustworthy."
Gastone looked down as he gathered enough strength to stare into Lucia’s grey eyes. "Because... I...I... Ugh!" he slammed his hands on the steering wheel, and his tongue felt cold.
"Tell me, Gastone. I won’t react or get enraged! I just want to know why I should count on you when you know Daniel is a piece of crap!" Lucia screamed. Her emotions got the best of her, and she wanted answers.
"BECAUSE I LOVE YOU!" Gastone shouted back. Lucia’s pressure made him say the phrase he had meant to hide for a long time.
