Chapter 503: The Confession to Dispute

Lucia’s eyes widened in surprise. Her pent-up frustration and rage suddenly vanished after hearing what Gastone had stated.

"What did you say?" Lucia muttered as she slowly leaned back. She felt the pressure inside the car increase as the tension between them heightened.

"Lucia, I love you wildly, insanely, infinitely," Gastone repeated his words gently. He internally wanted to smack himself for confessing the feeling he was supposed to suppress, but he couldn’t step away now.

Lucia pursed her lips. "Well, that’s a bit exaggerated," she stated, shaking her head. She was still in a daze about why Gastone loved her, and her brain couldn’t register it clearly.

"I have been keeping these emotions for a while. I know you don’t love me or anything closer than that, but now you know why I’m still here for you," Gastone stated as he stared back at the road.

"T-then... tell me what you love about me!?" Lucia exclaimed. Her attention was now focused on the word ’love,’ which made her heart skip a beat. She wanted to know every detail.

"What... haha," Gastone shook his head in amusement. Internally, he wanted to drive away as fast as he could to prevent additional embarrassment on his part.

"I’m serious," Lucia said firmly, holding her ground.

Gastone looked at Lucia. His piercing eyes looked straight at her soul. "I wish I could explain how your eyes, and how the sound of your voice gives me butterflies. How your smile makes my heart beat uncontrollably and how every time I’m with you, I feel so complete."

Lucia’s breath hitched. Never in her life has she experienced getting confessed sincerely, not because of her face or body. She wanted to reply, to show that she wouldn’t be that easy and believe Gastone’s words just because he said it.

However, a tear dropped on Lucia’s eyes.

"Lucia..." Gastone was shocked to see her crying. He started panicking at the thought that his remarks might have hurt her.

"I-I’m okay," Lucia whispered after Gastone searched his car for a tissue.

"That must be a shock to you, I apologize," Gastone muttered softly as he patted Lucia’s head.

"A bit, but thank you for that feeling of being close to me. It will vanish any time soon," Lucia whispered shyly. She wanted to believe it so bad, but she also knew feelings come and go.

"What are you saying?" Gastone frowned and crossed his arms. "I’ll never finish falling in love with you."

"Hah!?" Lucia’s mouth hung open as Gastone’s confidence got a bit on her nerves.

Gastone grunted. For him, it would be easier to confess that Lucia was his mate and no woman could replace her. However, he needed to use words that could relate to a human.

"I’m a one-woman kind of man. I always have been," Gastone explained as he turned his head to the side. He had met other girls before but always wanted to marry his mate.

That was the rationale behind why Gastone pursued Rosina in the past after feeling the mate bond with her, but it was one-sided. He never pursued another woman, even if there was someone arranged for him, unlike Draco.

One of the reasons why Gastone didn’t get fully triggered by what happened to his family and the loss of his title was because the war made him escape his arranged marriage. However, he didn’t expect to meet his mate so soon.

"Oh really," Lucia raised a brow, mocking Gastone. She believed no man would stick to one lady their whole lives. It was part of her experience when some clients in the Orphanage bought beautiful children, most of whom were married men.

"Yes, that’s why you can trust me. I’ll never do things that could potentially harm you," Gastone smiled before he started driving again.

"T-thank you," Lucia muttered, looking at the window as silence engulfed them. She looked at herself in the side mirror and saw her cheeks as red as a tomato.

"You’re welcome," Gastone replied flatly.

Lucia bit her lips to stop herself from giggling like a little kid when something was drawn to her. "Wait, that doesn’t mean I’m going to accept your confession!" she screamed.

"Ah!" Gastone flinched in surprise, and it hurt his ears a bit. "Okay, you don’t need to shout that close."

"But I’m telling you, we’re not going to be together!" Lucia exclaimed. She had seen in the movies that if one confessed, they would be in a relationship after that. The thought of it burns her inside, and she became nervous.

"Haha, don’t worry. I told you what I feel, but that doesn’t mean I will force you to be with me. I just want to let you know, and I hope it won’t affect what we have now." Gastone stated, reminding Lucia that they could stay as friends with a bit of benefit on the side.

Although, Gastone’s words brought a pang of pain to Lucia’s heart.

"You mean... as friends?" Lucia replied, to which Gastone nodded.

"Yes, of course. Whatever makes you comfortable," Gastone gave Lucia a cheeky smile while focusing on the road.

Lucia gasped in disbelief. She was torn between feeling relieved and disappointed. "Friends, ah! Okay! Sure!" she exclaimed, rolling her eyes.

Gastone raised an eyebrow. "You don’t like that?" he asked in confusion. He thought Lucia would be delighted that he wouldn’t force her into anything.

Lucia rubbed her temples and scratched her head in frustration. "Look here, you confessed to me out of nowhere and now, you’re telling me that we’re only friends!?" she shouted.

Due to Lucia’s words. Gastone stopped the car in haste as he felt he needed to address their situation, or else there would be another argument.

"I love you, Lucia, but you don’t love me back. So what should I do? Force you to like me? You said it yourself; we can’t be together. So what do you want me to do!?" Gastone raised his voice. He was disheartened that the wholesome confession turned into another dispute.
