Chapter 42: Chapter 42- My Return

DAMON~

"Do we know why?" I asked Carlos who stood beside me.

"We don’t."

"How many?"

"Everyone present." my heart skipped a beat at the sound of his response. I inhaled deeply before walking away from the glass wall that stood between me and Julian who lay on a hospital bed, countless machines connected to him as the doctors tried their hardest to save his life.

"They dig tunnels, they invade our towers, we can’t just watch them do this." I angrily said as I stormed through the halls. Carlos walked by my right while Daniel approached us from the front.

"Get ready! We are going out." I ordered as I walked past him. He paused and turned around to follow.

"Where?"

"Silver hollow. It’s time we show them the power of Howlcreek." I answered as we reached the exit of the building. I was about to open the door when I felt Daniel’s hand grab onto my wrist. My head snapped in his direction.

"Stop."

"Let go of me," I growled.

"No." He answered immediately. Carlos stepped forward to help but Daniel tore his eyes away from me and looked at him.

"Stay out of this!" He shouted and to my surprise he did.

"Let go of me, Daniel," I ordered, my eyes beginning to glow as I spoke.

"No." He said, his hold on me tightening "If you want to leave then make me let go of you. You are the Alpha, right?"

"Know your place, Daniel," I warned.

"That is exactly what I’m doing. You’re gonna storm off without a plan and I’m advising you to stop."

"They attacked our border. Our first line of defense and you want me to just sit back and take it?" I asked.

"No, I don’t expect you to do that but you’re not in the condition to start a war."

"I’m —"

"He’s right, Alpha." Carlos finally said and even Daniel was surprised. It was the first time they had ever been on the same side. "You can’t fight. Remember what the doctor said."

"I don’t need to fight," I replied. "We have wolves who will fight for their, Alpha."

"Really? Do you think the wolves would fight knowing their Alpha won’t step up?"

"I have a good reason for that, don’t I?"

"A reason they don’t know."

"Then I’ll make it known."

"That’s an even worse idea! The second they catch wind of your condition your position becomes threatened" Daniel explained as he took his hand away from mine and let go of my wrist.

"You’re the Alpha for a reason, and you made me your advisor so I could keep you in that position, so I can keep you alive and this—this move you wanna make isn’t gonna help me do that," Daniel said softly.

"I can’t let this slide," I said.

"You don’t have to." Daniel responded, "You don’t have to let it slide but we can’t attack now, not without you in top shape."

"So what do we do?" I asked.

"We have no evidence that it’s Sliver hollow behind this."

"Who else would do something like this?"

"The men who could still talk said it was the mad wolf who attacked," Carlos interjected.

"The mad wolf." I repeated "Isn’t he working for the humans?"

"Not exactly, they just have him on call."

"Even still the I.O.W.A won’t make a move like this without cause and it is not the first time he’s done something like this, we can’t attack Silver Hollow just because we assume they attacked us first."

"So basically, you’re saying we can’t do shit?" I asked, my voice low.

"Honestly, that’s our best option."

"It can be, there must be something we can do," I said as I began to pace back and forth when I heard someone shout.

"He’s awake!", our heads snapped in the direction of the voice and we saw a nurse jogging toward us.

"Who is awake?" Daniel asked as the nurse got to us.

"Ju—Julian," she said as she tried to catch her breath "He just woke up", our eyes widened with surprise. I knew he was strong but with the amount of injuries and wounds I saw on him, he should have been in intensive care for at least a week. As we got to the open door we immediately saw him, sitting down with his eyes fixed on the wall, blank of any emotion till he finally noticed our presence, his head slowly turned to us, and his blank stare was immediately replaced with shame.

"Alpha, I failed. I had one job and I failed." He said almost inaudibly.

"It wasn’t your fault, you weren’t prepared to face an attack of that magnitude," I replied as I continued to sneak glances at him, his body had been healed to perfection, and it looked like there had never been a confrontation to even begin with and I wasn’t the only one that thought that by the look on their faces, even the doctors that were still around stared at him with wide eyes. Daniel stepped further into the room to better examine Julian.

"At the age of sixty werewolf cells begin deteriorating, greatly slowing down healing, strength and speed become a fraction of what they used to be and your body can no longer take the stress induced when transforming but here you are seventy-four and you’re still able to heal normally, you can still transform whenever you wish and your speed and strength don’t even seem to be affected. Still, that doesn’t explain how the fuck all your injuries are completely healed," Daniel said.

"It’s not unheard of for a wolf’s healing to speed up in times of need or urgency, Maybe he just has a great will to live," Carlos interjected.

"The mad wolf." Julian suddenly said, his voice quiet but still the anger was clear, drawing our attention from his unusual healing back to the pressing matter at hand.

"What?"

"This wasn’t an attack, It was a statement, he wanted Howlcreek to know—He wanted Howlcreek to know that —" he stopped again as if scared of the words he wanted to say.

"Know what?" Daniel urged.

"He wanted Howlcreek to know that he was back."
