Hearing her question, Dai Liu glanced around before putting down her pen with a mysterious expression.

"Lower your head, I'll tell you quietly."

Dai Liu wasn't usually talkative, but she found herself inexplicably wanting to share more with this new intern. Perhaps it was the girl's composed demeanor that made people instinctively want to get closer. Even Head Nurse Yu Yu had just messaged her, saying this new intern showed promise and to look out for her.

Wasn't this considered looking out for her?

"You know how I mentioned many people like Director Bo? That Gan Youshan who just spoke to you is one of them. Once, she tried taking the elevator to the fifth floor during her shift break. Luckily Sister Yu caught her, otherwise if Director Bo had discovered it himself, that girl would've been done for."

Their hospital director might appear cold and taciturn, but when angered, no one dared meet his gaze. The veteran nurses all maintained respectful distance from Bo Jingmo - only newcomers and interns got fooled by his handsome face.

Thinking of this, Dai Liu lowered her voice further. "Let me tell you, when our director gets angry, it's terrifying. He doesn't say anything, just stares at you with those icy eyes. God, it's like facing the disciplinary dean back in school - absolutely petrifying. Handsome as he is, as someone who's been through it, I warmly advise you not to be fooled by that face."

"..."

Yu Li nearly laughed but restrained herself, nodding seriously instead. "Alright, I understand. I won't be fooled."

Actually, this matter wasn't exactly major, but not exactly minor either. Intentionally violating clearly emphasized rules would inevitably cause friction in future work.

And...

"And Gan Youshan was really bold. Back then Sister Yu assigned her night shift, and she dared ride the elevator alone to the fifth floor at night." Dai Liu propped her chin, sighing. "After working here so long, I still don't dare ride the elevator alone at night."

It was after that incident Head Nurse Yu stopped casually assigning night shifts to interns.

Yu Li paused her movements upon hearing this, pulling out a chair to sit. "What's wrong with... nights?"

At this question, Dai Liu seemed to touch upon some taboo, immediately sealing her lips while her eyes darted around fearfully.

"I'll tell you secretly, but don't tell Sister Yu - she hates us discussing this. Actually... our hospital is haunted."

Yu Li showed interest. "Haunted?"

"Yes! Every night the elevator automatically stops at the fourth floor and won't move. But the fourth floor houses only critically dangerous patients - there shouldn't be anyone on that floor!"

Dai Liu grew more animated. "Before, nurses kept disappearing in the hospital. Director Bo suppressed those incidents. It's not as bad now, but back then nobody dared take night shifts."

"This isn't exactly a secret, which is why I say Gan Youshan was so reckless. She knew these stories but claimed to be an atheist who didn't believe in them. She just hasn't encountered anything yet - she'll understand when she does."

Yu Li listened patiently, chin in hand. "Have you encountered anything?"

Dai Liu answered instantly: "Absolutely."

Back when she was a new nurse, young and fearless, seeing senior nurses avoid night shifts, she'd boldly volunteered.

That first night, Dai Liu immediately regretted it.

Because holy shit ghosts were real.

Alone at the nurse station that night, she'd taken a flashlight to check on patients.

Approaching the elevator, she heard a "ding" - the doors opened automatically before her.

No one had pressed the button, yet it remained open for a full minute.

Dai Liu froze, petrified, staring wide-eyed until the doors closed. Then her legs gave out.

As she collapsed, she saw the elevator ascend alone to the fourth floor - and stay there.

Worse yet, faint screams and sobs drifted down while third-floor lights flickered madly.

Terrified to tears, Dai Liu scrambled to the security office and talked the night away with the guard.

Next morning, Head Nurse Yu listened silently before patting her shoulder.

"You were overtired and hallucinating. Rest well, and don't mention this to others."

Hallucination? Dai Liu remembered that night vividly - it felt too real, like death had brushed past her.

Finishing her story, Dai Liu sipped from her thermos, then started upon seeing the clock. "It's this late already?"

Setting down the cup, she asked Yu Li: "Want to get lunch together?"

Yu Li declined. "You go ahead, Sister Liu. I'll familiarize myself with my patients first."

"Alright, but hurry. The cafeteria runs out fast - those people eat like wolves." Dai Liu removed her white coat, waving her phone. "See you."

"Bye."

After Dai Liu left, Yu Li stood, reviewing patient charts until reaching one special room - its door was locked.

Through the window, she saw a restrained man lying motionless, yet the atmosphere felt unnaturally eerie.

Suddenly, his eyes snapped open. Sensing her presence, he thrashed violently, crimson eyes locking onto her through the glass as animalistic snarls erupted.

"RELEASE ME!!! YOU DEMONS!!"

Caught off-guard, Yu Li merely narrowed her eyes calmly. As she turned to leave, familiar pine scent filled her nose as warm hands covered her eyes.

Pressed against a solid chest in darkness, a deep voice murmured by her ear:

"This patient's condition is unstable. You shouldn't approach here."
