Chapter 61: A confession

Silas remained silent, unable to mutter a word as he stared at her unbothered face. He might not love her, but he didn’t see them as just fuck buddies either. He had been waiting to see what they would actually become. Since the moment he thrust himself into her, he gave himself hope that they could be more than just two people having sex...maybe even become good friends.

But thinking about it, do friends have sex with each other? He had been foolish to think they could be friends. She was right. They could either be fuck buddies or lovers.

"Wait! Don’t tell me you have fallen in love with me?" She said dramatically, dropping her hands to her mouth, causing his cheeks to strangely turn red before returning to normal.

"Falling in love with you would be the most stupid decision I would ever make. Don’t delude yourself," he responded, though his gaze was no longer on her, he was staring off into the distance.

"You scared me there, lover boy," she said and burst into laughter.

"We need to find the red cloth. Let’s move on," he said, and they began walking away, but not without Zara taunting him from time to time.

...

Patricia grew tired of searching for the red cloth after what felt like an endless hunt that yielded nothing. It just seemed like they were going in circles with no direction.

"Let’s split up," she urged, still not looking at him.

Syres didn’t want to leave her alone, but with her current mood, there was nothing else he could do but let her be. He would have Jude follow her secretly.

"Alright. Take this and flip the switch if you run into trouble, help will come," he said, stretching out a small remote with a little button on it.

"Okay," she responded, retrieving it and beginning to walk in the opposite direction.

Once she had walked a fair distance, she looked back to check if he was following and then sighed, glancing again at the path they had come from. The only reason she asked to split up was so she could make her way back to the yacht. She could always lie and say she lost her way and had to return on her own.

She began walking down, and two minutes in, she spotted Roman just a few steps ahead, seemingly walking alone. She wondered where Michelle was as they were paired together, and unless Michelle wasn’t interested in following him, they shouldn’t have split up.

As she made her way toward him, she got distracted and stumbled to the ground, groaning as she hit the floor.

Raising her hand, she hissed from the sting of a scratch and blew on it to ease the pain. When she raised her head, her eyes widened and her mouth parted in shock and fear, her gaze landing on a snake right in front of her, hissing and staring.

She began shaking, looking around for an escape but found it hard to stand. The snake was directly facing her, making it impossible to avert her gaze in case it decided to strike.

"Don’t move," she heard Roman’s voice say, but she was too terrified to look at him. She kept her eyes on the snake.

Nodding, she replied, "Okay," putting her faith in him.

Slowly, Roman approached the snake and swiftly grabbed it by the head, causing Patricia to sigh in relief, until she heard Roman groan. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the snake bite his arm.

Roman flung the snake away, and Patricia rushed to him, placing her hand on the bite.

"Oh no," she cried out, then tore the end of her shirt and quickly tied it around his arm to keep the poison from spreading.

"I can suck out the poison before it starts causing damage," she said, raising her head to look at him, but she was taken aback by the intensity of his gaze. For someone who had just been bitten by a snake, his expression was oddly calm. And he was staring at her in a strange way, like he was observing her.

She stared back with a confused look and asked, "What’s it?" Glancing between both his eyes for an answer.

"Why are you alone?" He inquired.

"Oh! We split up to search for the red cloth and..."

Cutting her off, he said, "He left you all alone?" His body vibrated as he spoke.

She could feel the anger in his gaze and knew exactly what that meant, so she quickly added, "No! I made us split up so I could find my way back to the yacht. He didn’t leave me alone and I wanted to be left alone." She explained the whole situation, and though it didn’t completely ease him, it at least softened the tension in the air.

Staring at her, he darted his eyes over her body, then picked up her hand and looked at the scratch with a blank expression.

"Let’s go back," he said, and she nodded silently, watching him.

Back on the yacht, Roman insisted on tending to her scratch first, leaving a nervous Patricia sitting quietly while he handled the wound. She couldn’t keep her eyes off the snake bite on his arm and kept counting seconds in her head.

"That’s enough, it’s just a little scratch," she said, growing impatient.

"No. This is the only thing holding me back from hunting down the man who caused this," he said, locking eyes with her. She gulped, feeling the threat in his gaze. Honestly, she would rather have him waste time here than go after Syres because of her.

"I am sorry," she whispered.

"For what?" He asked.

"Agreeing to join the game," she said softly.

Roman paused, raising his head to meet her gaze. Suddenly, everything fell silent. Their heartbeats seemed to sync as they stared at each other, unspoken words passing between them. For the first time, Patricia felt something new, a connection that wasn’t born out of resentment or hatred. It was soft, understanding, and maybe even... oh no, was she falling for him already?

Roman, on the other hand, couldn’t resist how cute she looked at that moment. Just watching her innocent face calmed every storm brewing inside him.

"I am about to do something...without your consent," he said, his deep, cold voice sending shivers through her. She took a breath, her gaze dropping to his lips, anticipation stirring in her chest.

As much as she didn’t want to admit it, she badly wanted to feel his lips on hers, more deeply than the first time. It was shameless of her, but for once, she didn’t want to care.

Leaning forward, Roman gently placed a hand on her cheek, his warmth spreading across her skin.

Slowly, he moved closer, and closer, and closer. Patricia’s heart raced as she stared greedily at his lips, waiting. But just as he was about to kiss her, he suddenly groaned and dropped his head, causing Patricia to panic.

"Roman!" She cried out, reaching for him as she bent down to check his face, worry washing over her.

Roman made a pained sound and leaned back into the couch, placing a hand on his forehead.

"It’s the venom... it must be causing a migraine. Let me suck it out," she said, grabbing his arm, but he pulled it away and refused.

"No. You could poison yourself, we don’t even know what type of snake it was. Get Kay," he said, still worried about her even in his condition.

"I am a doctor. I have done it before, I can risk it again. If we delay too long, you might get worse," she insisted.

"No. Call Kay. A doctor should arrive in half an hour. I can last until then," he said firmly.

She exhaled deeply, then reached into his pocket for his phone.

Luckily, it wasn’t locked, so she quickly opened his contacts and dialed Kay.

’Kay! It’s me, Patricia. Roman’s been bitten by a snake, we don’t know what kind and we need a doctor as soon as possible." Her voice shook as she spoke the moment the call connected.

"Where are you?" Kay asked.

"In his room. We are back on the yacht," she replied. The call ended from the other side.

"Help is coming," she said, trying to reassure him.

Instead, he joked, "You look like a wife worried about her husband."

"What?" She said, staring at him in disbelief. Was he seriously joking right now? She had never seen him like this. Why now, of all times?

"If you are really worried, then don’t divorce me," he said with a half-smile.

"Is that a confession?" She asked, her cheeks turning red as she caught the sincerity in his eyes.

"If that’s what it takes to make you stay."
