Chapter 296: DINNER DATE
Chapter 296: DINNER DATE
Astrid finally got home after many hours of being busty, then the moment Larry pulled up she rushed into the house.
Her senses immediately hit with the beautiful smell of food wafting from the kitchen.
She followed the scent, her stomach growling every second as she walked into the kitchen to find Julian standing at the stove, his back bare and glistening with a sheen of sweat.
He was juggling multiple pans, the sizzle and crackle of the food filling the air as he moved with a fluid grace.
Astrid felt her eyes drawn to the way his muscles flexed and rippled beneath his skin as he cooked, her heart skipping a beat.
She gently strolled towards him, her eyes fixed on his back, and she reached out to massage her hands over his skin.
Julian didn’t flinch, he already knew the moment she stepped inside, his focus solely on the food as he expertly plated the dishes.
"Hey, beautiful," he muttered in a very calm voice
"Welcome home. How was your day?"
Astrid leaned in, her lips brushing against his ear. "It was long," she whispered. "I’m exhausted."
Julian turned to her."You sure had a long day making Mr. Jerkins the new chairman." Astrid snickered, already used to how he gets information faster.
"You want to go take a bath?" he asked, his voice solicitous.
Astrid grumbled, her eyes closing in a plea. "Can’t I just have dinner first?" she asked, her voice whiny. "I am starving."
Julian chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "You are always starving," he teased, pulling her closer.
"Well you made me that way, I enjoy your cooking so much." Julian smiled, flickering her nose with his finger.
"I am delighted to know my wife enjoys my cooking." Astrid’s hands traced the healing scar on Julian’s, her fingers dancing over the raised skin. "Seeing this makes me want to make sure Mattie goes through hell," she said, her voice cold.
Julian smiled, his eyes twinkling with approval. "Don’t worry, beautiful," he said. "The sniper will get what’s coming to him. And then Mattie’s court case will begin, then you can do what you wish."
Astrid’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction, and she leaned in to press a kiss to Julian’s shoulder. "Good," she whispered.
Julian turned off the gas, as he began to serve the dishes. Astrid climbed onto his back, wrapping her legs around his waist as she leaned in to nuzzle his neck.
Julian didn’t flinch, his focus solely on the food as he arranged the dishes on the table. "Dinner’s ready," he said, his voice low.
Astrid slid off his back gently beside the dining table, her eyes scanning the table as she took in the spread. There were multiple dishes, each one more delicious-smelling than the last.
"What’s all this?" she asked, her eyes wide with wonder.
Julian smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I made new dishes. I would like you to try" he said, his voice low. "Sushi, steak, lobster..."
Astrid’s eyes widened as she took in the spread, her stomach growling arrest "You should have been a chef," she said, her voice awestruck.
Julian snickered, his eyes glinting with amusement. "My mom is a great chef," he asserted as he helped her pull out her chair. "She’s the one who taught me everything I know."
"Wow, I didn’t know that," she said, her voice curious.
Julian smiled, "You don’t know much about my mom," he explained"She’s not exactly the type to seek out the spotlight."
Astrid’s eyes narrowed, her curiosity piqued. "Why did you follow in your dad’s footsteps instead of your mom’s?" she pressed on.
Julian’s smile faltered, and he looked away, his eyes clouding over. "Let’s just eat first, okay?" he said, his voice low.
Astrid nodded, her eyes never leaving his face. She picked up her chopsticks, her eyes scanning the dishes as she tried to decide where to start.
Julian watched her, admiring her with love as he waited for her to take her first bite.
The moment the food hit her taste buds, Astrid’s eyes widened in surprise.
The flavors exploded on her tongue, a perfect balance of sweet and savory that left her wanting more.
She looked up at Julian, her eyes sparkling with delight. "This is amazing," she said, her voice awestruck.
Julian grinned not able to hide his pleased expression. "I am glad you like it,"
Astrid dug in, her chopsticks flying as she devoured the food. Julian watched her, his eyes glinting with amusement as he admired the way
Astrid closed her eyes and she took another bite of the delicious food. "Mmm, this is amazing," she said, her voice filled with praise. "You’re an incredible chef, Julian."
Julian smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Thank you, Love."
Astrid’s eyes narrowed, her curiosity piqued. "So, why didn’t you become a chef?" she asked, her voice curious.
Julian looked away, seeing she didn’t forget her question, "Why do I have to answer that?" he asked, his voice low.
Astrid stopped eating, her eyes fixed on Julian’s face. "Are you going to tell me easily or do you want me to force you?"
Julian’s eyes snapped back to hers, and he smiled wryly. "It’s because of you," he answered, a bit embarrassed.
Astrid’s eyes widened in surprise, and she felt a flutter in her chest. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Julian’s eyes locked on hers, and he smiled. "You praised my first necklace," he answered"You said it was awesome. So, I pursued that dream, because you were my savior that day. I had pursued it thinking then that it was Mattie."
Astrid’s eyes filled with tears, she never thought just a simple word would go so far in someone’s life
But recalling he thought it was Mattie all these while she snorted, "But you thought it was Mattie.."
"And that is why I never want to say it in the first place," he argued, making me whip Astrid’s head up.
"Julian, I..." she started to say, but her words were cut off by the sound of the door lock making a clicking sound.
Maren burst into the living room, her eyes scanning the table before landing on Astrid. "Hey, girl!" she exclaimed, rushing towards the dining table.
"Thank goodness there’s food! I’m starving!"
Astrid laughed, her eyes shining with amusement. "Eat, eat!" she said, gesturing to the food, as Maren sat behind her. "It’s delicious!"
Maren dug in, her eyes widening in surprise as she took her first bite. "Mmm, this is amazing!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with praise.
Miles greeted Julian and Astrid, taking a seat at the table as Maren continued to devour the food. Julian’s eyes narrowed, his face expressionless as he watched the scene unfold.
"What are you two doing here?" he asked, a bit annoyed.
Maren looked up, gluing"We’re sleeping over!" she exclaimed. "We can have a night over here!"
Astrid squealed with excitement, as she embraced Maren so tight. "That’s great!" she said, her voice filled with enthusiasm.
Julian’s face remained expressionless, his eyes fixed on Astrid’s face. He could see the excitement in her eyes, the joy that emitted from her very being. And he couldn’t help but feel a pang of annoyance.
Maren and Astrid are now so into their conversation that they no longer care about their man.
Miles caught Julian’s eye, his expression sheepish. "Sorry, man," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the din of conversation. "Maren brought me here. I couldn’t say no to my woman." and he snorted in return.
