Chapter 289: MAKING HER CRY
Chapter 289: MAKING HER CRY
Without thinking, Astrid flung herself onto Julian’s bed, embracing him tightly. "Oh my goodness, you are awake," she yelled in tears her arms wrapped around him.
"Aww.. hey love that hurts." She heard him mumble and d he weakly lifted a hand to his neck.
Astrid jumped back, her eyes widening in horror.
"Oh my God, Julian, I am so sorry!" she exclaimed, tears of joy and relief streaming down her face.
Julian’s eyes flickered open, and he gazed up at Astrid, his expression weak but loving. But he didn’t smile, and Astrid’s heart sank.
"Julian, I am so sorry," Astrid repeated, taking his hand in hers. "I forgot about your braces and bandages."
Julian’s eyes drifted closed, and he took a shallow breath. Astrid’s heart skipped a beat as she realized that he was still in a fragile state.
She quickly clicked the button beside his bed alerting the doctor.
The doctor rushed into the room, followed by Julian’s mum. Astrid shifted back, giving them space to examine Julian.
The doctor began to check Julian’s vitals, his expression serious.
"Mr. Logan, can you hear me?"
Julian nodded weakly, his eyes slowly opening, and then he gestured for him to sit.
The doctor quickly helped him recline his bed, helping him rest his back on the wall.
The doctor continued to examine him, checking his braces and bandages.
"We will need to run some more tests to make sure everything is healing properly," he explained.
Astrid nodded, her eyes fixed on Julian’s face. She couldn’t believe that he was finally awake.
The doctor turned to Astrid and Becky. "He’s doing fine, considering. But we will need to monitor him closely for the next few days."
Becky nodded, tears of joy streaming down her face. "Thank you, doctor," she said, her voice trembling.
Astrid smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. Julian was going to be okay.
But as she looked at Julian’s face, she realized that he still wasn’t smiling. And that worried her
Astrid moved closer to Julian, her eyes fixed on his face. Then Becky stretched out a bottle of water to him, and Julian slowly lifted his hand to take it. But he stopped midway, his eyes locked on Astrid’s face.
"My hands hurt," Julian said, his voice weak but husky. "If I raise them."
Astrid’s face fell, and she felt a pang of hurt. She quickly took the bottle from Becky and opened it, wanting to help Julian. But when she offered him the water, Julian shook his head.
"I want my mum to give me the water," he said, his eyes still fixed on Astrid’s face.
Astrid paused, feeling confused and a little hurt. She handed the bottle to Becky, who took it with a gentle smile.
"Here you go, sweetie," Becky said, helping Julian take a sip of water.
As Julian drank the water, the door to his room burst open, and Desmond, Miles, and Maren rushed inside. "Son!" Desmond called out excitedly.
He smiled broadly, patting Julian’s head.
"Welcome back, son," Desmond said, his voice choking with delight.
"We were all worried sick about you."
Miles nodded in agreement. "Yeah, man, you had us all scared. Thanks for fighting for yourself."
Becky felt a lump form in her throat, and she wiped away tears. "I am just glad you are okay, baby," she said, placing a kiss on Julian’s forehead. "Don’t ever do that to me again."
As everyone joked and chatted with Julian, Astrid stood back, feeling lost and a little left out.
She couldn’t help but feel hurt that Julian had rejected her offer of water, and that he seemed more comfortable with his mum taking care of him.
Desmond and Miles chatted with Julian for a while, asking him about his recovery and what he remembered about the accident.
Maren hovered around the edges of the conversation, smiling and nodding along as she grabbed Astrid’s arms and winked at her.
"I am so happy he is awake, at least my friend would finally stop with unnecessary tears," Astrid forced out a smile.
After a while, Becky spoke up. "I am going to go get some food for you, Julian. You must be starving."
Desmond nodded. "Yeah, sorry son I can’t be with you now and I need to get back to the office. I have some meetings to attend to." He stared at Astrid.
"Your wife is here with you, I am pretty sure she would take care of you more than anyone here." He let out.
Miles on the other hand looked reluctant to leave, but Maren took his arm and pulled him towards the door.
"Come on, Miles. Let’s give Julian and Astrid some time alone."
Astrid felt a bit of surprise and gratitude towards Maren. She smiled weakly, feeling a little better.
As everyone filed out of the room, Astrid was left alone with Julian.
Astrid stood there, frozen in uncertainty, not knowing if she should go close to Julian or keep her distance.
She had been waiting for what felt like an eternity for him to wake up, and now that he was finally awake, he seemed distant and cold.
As she stood there, tears began to roll down her cheeks, and when one of them dropped to the ground, Julian finally looked up from his phone. But instead of comforting her, he just sat there, his expression unreadable.
Astrid felt a pang of hurt and rejection. She had been so happy to see him awake, and now he seemed to be pushing her away.
She decided to busy herself by peeling some apples in the fridge for him, hoping that the familiar scent and taste might bring him back to her.
As she peeled the apples gently, the room was silent, the only sound was the soft crunch of the apple peel. Julian finally spoke up, his voice low and rough.
"Aren’t you going to get mad at me?" he asked, his eyes now piercing at her.
Astrid glanced up at him, and only then did Julian notice the tears in her eyes. He winced, looking like he was in pain, and tried to reach out to her. But his body protested, and he sat back with a groan.
"Why do you always know how to play my game?" Julian asked, his voice tinged with frustration, and Astrid’s eyes narrowed at this.
"I am mad at you for going out with Rowan and looking all pretty. Now you are crying when you’re supposed to be happy that I’m awake."
Astrid couldn’t take it anymore. She broke into a peal of tears, her body shaking with sobs.
Julian’s eyes widened not expecting her to take it this way.
He tried to comfort her despite his discomfort, but she pushed him away, her heart feeling like it was breaking into a million pieces.
Just then, Becky walked into the room, with one of their chefs with a tray of food in her hands.
She had asked them to bring some food from the mansion, hoping that Julian might be hungry. But when she saw Astrid crying, she was stunned.
She ordered them to drop the food and leave.
Then she rushed to Astrid’s side, "Why are you crying?" Becky asked, her voice full of concern.
Astrid raised her head, pointing at Julian. "He’s refused to talk to me since he woke up," she said, her voice shaking with tears. "He even told me not to touch him."
Julian’s eyes widened in surprise, and before he could say anything, Becky slapped him on the shoulder, making him groan.
"Mum!" Julian yelled out, wincing in pain. "I just woke up from being unconscious and I am also in pain."
Becky glared at him. "Don’t make her cry, do you know how sad she was when you were unconscious? We had to sedate her twice to get her to sleep. She was always here with you."
Julian felt a pang of regret, realizing that he had hurt Astrid’s feelings. He looked at her, his eyes filled with apology.
"I didn’t know, Mum," Julian said, his voice soft.
"I heard her talking about going on a date with Rowan, and..."
Becky shook her head, interrupting him. "I was the one who forced Astrid to go out on a dinner date, to get her mind off you being in bed. You should be grateful to her for being here for you."
Astrid smiled weakly, wiping away her tears. Becky turned to her and lifted her chin.
"I give you permission to hit him if he doesn’t listen," Becky said, smiling. "Now, feed him and make sure you two make up."
Astrid thanked Becky, who nodded happily and walked out of the room. Astrid helped Julian dish out the food on the tray, her hands touching his as she handed him a fork.
Julian cleared his throat, looking up at her. "I’m sorry, Astrid. I was only mad because of the date."
Astrid looked up at him, her eyes creasing in a frown. "How long have you been awake?" she asked.
Julian smiled weakly. "Maybe a few hours ago. I always heard your voice when I couldn’t open my eyes. And when I regained consciousness, you weren’t here with me, so I didn’t alert anyone."
Astrid gasped, moving closer to him. "Why?" she asked, her voice soft.
Julian stared at her, his eyes held that adoring look.
"You were the last one I saw before closing my eyes. I wanted to be the first person you saw when I woke up."
Astrid stared at him, her eyes filling with tears. She smacked his shoulder, making him groan.
"Aww!" Julian exclaimed, rubbing his shoulder.
"What was that for?"
Astrid smacked him again, and Julian groaned louder. "Never play that way with me again."
