Chapter 280: A DEAL WITH LANDON

Astrid stepped into the dimly lit cartel, like they were expecting her arrival, the room fell silent as all eyes turned to her, their faces filled with curiosity and wariness.

Landon’s men parted to reveal their leader, his back turned to her as he gazed at a series of pictures projected on the wall.

Astrid’s eyes locked onto Landon’s broad shoulders, her gaze unwavering. She knew she was taking a risk by coming here, but she had to see this through.

Her husband, Julian, had warned her about Landon’s unpredictable nature, but Astrid was not one to back down from a challenge.

As she approached Landon, he spoke without turning around, his back faced her as she stared at the pictures on the wall.

"Astrid, why are you here? Didn’t your husband warn you not to come back here?" He asked as he puffed out his cigarette.

Astrid’s lips curved into a sly smile as she replied, "Well, he did warn me not to come here again, but what did you think would happen now that he’s the one who brought me here himself?"

Landon’s chair swiveled around, his eyes narrowing as he took in Astrid’s confident pose.

A slow smirk spread across his face, as he proclaimed. "You are so smart, Astrid. You play your game in a smart way, How did you know I was planning to end you if you came here today?"

Astrid’s let out a chuckle as she shook her head. "I have proof that you won’t hurt me, Landon." She leaned closer to him, "You see, I know your weakness."

Landon’s smirk faltered for a moment before he regained his composure.

"You are not my daughter, Astrid. I have only been protecting you because of Elizabeth’s little trick. Now, I would rather protect Mattie than you."

Astrid’s gaze drifted to the pictures on the wall, her eyes scanning the images before returning to Landon. "But my picture which you had plastered on the wall still looks neat."

Astrid dropped a sealed envelope onto his desk, and he picked it up immediately, his eyes scanning the contents.

"What is this?" he asked as he picked up the file, she smirked and replied.

"It’s a visa and a new identity, for you to leave the city," he snatched it from the desk, checking to see if it was true and truly it was just like she had said.

He dropped the file, and smirked at her, "What if I kill you now that I have this with me?"

Astrid took a step closer to him, no fear in her eyes. "My living is the continuation of your living, Landon. If you mess with me, I promise you won’t even walk out of this cartel alive."

Landon’s smirk returned, but it was tinged with wariness. "Why did you help me, Astrid?" he asked, his voice softer now.

Astrid’s expression turned solemn. "Well, It’s repayment for protecting me and killing Josh."

Landon’s laughter was low and rough, rethinking her words. "No one has ever thanked me for killing anyone, Astrid. You’re a unique one."

Astrid’s smile returned, "I am giving you a second chance to live, Landon. But don’t forget, my eyes are everywhere. If you cross your limits again and don’t live a good life, you will have to face the consequences."

"You are just like your mother, Astrid. I regret not having you as my daughter." Landon announced with a huge grin.

"Well, Maren has always wanted a responsible father, Landon. Isn’t it time you walked her down the aisle since you won’t get to do it for Mattie?"

Landon’s face turned speechless, his eyes wide with surprise. Astrid’s words had struck a chord deep within him.

He snickered, at this. "Let’s see what the world has for us." Astrid’s smile never wavered as she said.

"We depart here, Landon. Take care of yourself."

As she turned to leave, Landon’s voice stopped her. "Wait," He threw something at her, and she caught it.

Astrid checked to see if it was a small chip, and she realized it was the same one she had used to spy on him.

"You caught me," she stated.

"Yeah, and I am letting you go this time, it has never happened before you are my first. Make sure it neverrepeats itself," Astrid narrowed her eyes.

"Never repeat itself? Are you planning to meet again like this?"

He ignored her question and walked off, "Just send my regards to your husband."

Astrid winked at him, tucking the chip into her pocket. "I will do just that, Landon. Take care of yourself."

With that, she turned and walked out of the cartel, as walked out of the she into the bright sunlight, she spotted Julian leaning against their car, his eyes fixed intently on his phone.

Astrid’s smile grew wider as she approached him. "Hey, husband. How is it going?"

Julian looked up, his eyes locking onto hers. "It’s going well, wife. How was your meeting with Landon?"

Astrid’s eyes sparkled with amusement. "Oh, it was enlightening. Let’s just say Landon and I have an understanding now."

Julian’s eyebrows rose, his eyes narrowing slightly. "An understanding? What kind of understanding?"

Astrid’s smile grew wider, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Let’s just say Landon won’t be causing us any more trouble. At least, not for a while."

Julian’s eyes searched hers, but Astrid just winked at him. "Don’t worry, husband. I have got everything under control."

Julian’s lips curved into a smile, "I never doubted that wife. Let’s get out of here." he announced.

Astrid nodded, sliding into the passenger seat as Julian got behind the wheel. As they drove away from the cartel, Astrid couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. She had taken care of Landon, and now she could focus on more important things.

But then Maren texted Astrid, "Astrid have you seen the latest news about Tonia?" Astfid stared at her message as she decided to go check her news feed but was left with shock seeing the news.

"Julian, did you know that Tonia has been arrested?" she asked and he smirked, nodding his head.

"Of course, I expected it soonest." Astrid smirked at this, "Guess Karma is fighting for me, I need to go see her." she announced with a big smile.

"What?" Julian asked, confused.

"Take me to the police station, I need to make jest for someone."
