Chapter 279: FROM VISIT TO JAIL

Chapter 279: FROM VISIT TO JAIL

"I am sorry ma’am but you can’t go inside," One of the guards guarding the door to Donald’s Room stopped Tonia.

Tonia’s face turned awry in a scowl at his action, "I need to see my father," she demanded, her voice rising in anger. But the guards stood firm, their faces impassive.

"I am afraid that’s not possible, Mrs. Adam," Another replied.

"We have orders from above to deny you access to your father’s ward."

Tonia got irritated at this, "Who gave you these orders?" she spat.

"It’s Astrid, isn’t it? She’s behind this."

The guards didn’t respond, their faces remaining neutral. Tonia scoffed at this, she moved forward but they immediately stood in front stopping her.

"I said get the heck outta my way!" she yelled and began to struggle against the guards, causing a scene in the hospital corridor.

"You will regret this!" she yelled, her voice echoing off the walls. "When my father wakes up, I will make sure you all pay for this!"

The doctors and nurses in the corridor stopped to stare, their faces concerned. But Tonia didn’t care, they already knew the order that had come from Miles and Julain they wouldn’t mess with those two men.

Just as it seemed like the situation was going to escalate further, Mr. Jerkins walked out from the ward, a calm expression on his face.

"Mrs. Adam, please," he said, his voice soothing. "You’re not helping your father by causing a scene."

Tonia stopped her struggle as she stared at Mr. Jerkins then she let out a deep chuckle.

"You are behind this, aren’t you?" she spat. "Are you trying to use my father’s life as revenge now?"

Mr. Jerkins smirked at this, "You can think whatever you like, Ma’am," he said. "But I assure you, my only concern is your father’s health."

Tonia’s face twisted in a snarl, and she took a step forward, but the guards intervened, holding her back.

"Let her go," Mr. Jerking instructed and they did immediately.

"I will let you see your father for a few minutes, but please try to remain calm."

Tonia wanted to argue but she knew it wouldn’t help her so she just followed him, her jaw clenched.

As she entered the room, she saw her father lying in the bed, his face pale and drawn. Tonia’s expression softened for a moment, "I will leave you alone with him," Mr. Jerkins announced and then walked out.

The moment the door was shut her eyes narrowed, she moved closer to the bed, her eyes fixed on her father’s face.

"How is your health, Father?" she asked, "I hope you’re doing okay," she added.

Donald didn’t respond, his eyes closed, Tonia stared at him for a while, before wiping the fake tears on her eyes.

Suddenly, she burst out laughing, and she could hardly hold it for a while.

"Oh, this is rich," she let out a taunting smile. You were expecting me to be all tearful and concerned? Ha!"

She leaned in closer, her face twisted in a snarl. "You are a pathetic excuse for a father," she spat. "You only care about Elizabeth, don’t you? You never cared about me."

Her laughter echoed through the room, "But now, where is she? Isn’t she supposed to be here to protect you?" she placed her hands on her forehead, laughing continuously.

Then it stopped abruptly as she stared into her father’s sleeping figure, she grabbed his hands.

"I know the truth, Father," she said,

"I know I am adopted. I know Elizabeth is the only heir to the Gilbert riches."

She laughed again, this time her eyes held pain and anger. "You should have killed me when you had the chance, Father," she let out.

"Because now, it’s too late. I am going to make sure you pay for what you have done to me."

As Tonia’s laughter faded away, her father’s eyes remained closed, his face pale and drawn.

"Yes, I caused your trigger," she said. "If not for that stupid Jerkins, you would be dead now."

Tonia’s eyes flashed with anger, her voice growing louder. "I have always wanted you dead, ever since I knew your late wife adopted me when I was a baby."

She gently caressed his hands. "Wondering how I found out? Well, I was curious why you never liked me like you did Elizabeth," she said. "So I found out through DNA. I knew right from high school."

"Your wife? Agent you wondering how she died?" she asked as he could respond to his question.

"I pushed her... I made it look like an accident, it was never one... I was the one who pushed her." she revealed.

"Yeah... I am a monster, she shouldn’t have felt sorry for me and adopted me, I have always wanted everything for myself the moment I knew you wouldn’t give me any of it." she gently patted his hair with a lopsided grin.

"Now, with you home I only have one person... Astrid," she called out and paused for a while.

"Are you scared?" she chuckled at this, "I should have ended her long ago, don’t you think?"

"I should have known she had Gilbert’s Blood in her veins the moment I saw her. She looks just like Elizabeth, how did I miss that?."

Her laughter echoed through the room, again "I should have known Astrid is Zach’s child, there were hints" She let out no in particular.

"Even in death, Elizabeth is not making things easy for me." She paused and stared at her dad who still hadn’t moved an inch.

"She even punished me and switched my child and made me take care of the wrong one," she said. "But now, I will make sure you hear about Astrid’s death on your sickbed."

Just then, the door opened, and Mr. Jerkins walked in with some cops. Tonia’s eyes widened in shock as the cops approached her.

"What is this? How come there are cops?" she asked, a bit confused.

"Mrs. Adam, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of your father and the murder of your mother," one of the cops said.

Tonia’s eyes flashed as she darted her gaze between the cops and Mr Jerkins.

"No, this can’t be, my father is on his sickbed and I care so much about him, What do you mean?"

But before she could say another word, her father stood up from the bed, a sly smile spreading across his face.

"Yes, I heard everything you said, Tonia," he said, his voice cold. "I regret allowing my wife and daughter to adopt a pathetic witch like you."

Tonia feezed at this, "Yo.... You... set me up." she asked in shock and Donald sighed.

"Even after always having my doubts I should have forgotten you long again and made you go through punishment, guess your cup is filled now." Tonia gulped down nervously, she fell on her knees.

"Dad! I am so sorry... please I will change I will do my best to be the best daughter. Don’t arrest me please." she begged, falling to her knees.

But her father just smiled, his eyes glinting with malice. "You killed my wife and daughter, I won’t watch you kill the only bloodline I have left." he spat. "Take her away!" he instructed.

The cops moved forward, handcuffing Tonia’s wrists. "Whatever you say will be used against you in court," one of them warned.

Tonia shook her head continuously, as she glanced at her father. "No, this can’t be," she cried "I won’t go down without a fight, this isn’t the ending!" she yelled but she was pulled out of the room by the cops as Donald stared at her pain in his eyes.
