Chapter 275: HALLUCINATION
Chapter 275: HALLUCINATION
Mattie looked around confused wondering how Astrid had suddenly appeared in her room.
"It must be an illusion," she thought, still not wanting to believe that Astrid was a real person standing before her.
She rubbed her hands over her eyes, wondering if she was hallucinating, but when she opened them again, Astrid was still standing there, a smirk playing on her lips.
Mattie’s confusion gave way to fear as she stumbled backward, her eyes fixed on Astrid. "How did you get in here?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Astrid’s smirk deepened, but she didn’t respond. Instead, she took a step closer to Mattie enjoying the scene before her.
Mattie’s eyes darted around the room, searching for an escape route, but Astrid was too quick. She quickly grabbed her hands, stopping her from running.
Mattie tried to shake off Astrid’s grip, but she was too strong. "Let me go!" Mattie demanded, but Astrid just laughed, at her desperation.
As Astrid’s grip tightened, Mattie felt herself falling to the ground. She landed with a thud, her palms scraping against the carpet. Astrid loomed over her.
Mattie scrambled to her feet, her eyes fixed on Astrid as she raised an eyebrow.
"Why are you scared, Mattie?" Astrid asked as her hands trailed around Mattie’s face.
"Did you do something that would make you afraid of me?"
Mattie rolled her eyes, trying to appear nonchalant. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
But Astrid wasn’t fooled. She took another step closer to Mattie, "I am here for a reason, Mattie," She let out.
Mattie’s eyes locked onto Astrid’s, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. "Well.." she pushed her away as she stood upright.
"I am here for something else," Astrid let out, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a handful of photographs.
She scattered them on the ground, the sound of the paper hitting the carpet echoing through the room.
Mattie rushed toward the pictures picking them up to check what the picture was all about.
Mattie felt like she’d been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her. As she stared at the picture over and over again.
Mattie felt like she was staring at her own worst nightmare. They revealed the secret that Mattie had thought was long buried, a secret that she had kept hidden for so long.
Mattie’s hands began to shake, and she felt like she was going to vomit. She looked up at Astrid, her eyes pleading for mercy. "What is this?" Mattie whispered. "How did you get these?"
Astrid shrugged her shoulders with a little smirk, "Why? Are you scared this picture would put you in some kind of trouble?"
Mattie shook her head, her eyes darting around the room. "No, no, this can’t be, this isn’t me... I don’t understand what this picture is about" she muttered.
Astrid took another step closer to Mattie, her eyes burning with a fierce light.
"We are the only ones in this room, Mattie," she whispered. "I have known about your scheming for months now. So, why are you trying to pretend?"
Mattie smirked at this with a look of delight, "Yes, I pushed that girl down the stairs," she divulged, "She was getting too close to my man, Julian. He’s mine, and I won’t let anyone take him from me, not even you Astrid."
Astrid’s expression remains blank, as she looks down at Mattie with pity, who would have thought the Mattie she had always looked up to would kneel in front of her pleading for mercy
"You do know if you never steal him from me he would be mine from the beginning."
"He isn’t your Astrid! He loves me! Only me!" has yelled.
Astrid’s eyes sparkled with amusement as she gazed at Mattie, the photograph still clutched in her hand.
"Well, I am happy you just proved that you are the one who pushed her," Mattie was about to talk but Astrid gestured for her to shit her mouth.
"Your full picture is shown here. There’s no way you will be able to escape punishment. Just accept it slowly," She stood up about to walk out, sprinting toward her.
She swerved to the side, setting her leg in a way that made Mattie slip. Mattie’s feet flew out from under her, and she landed with a thud on the floor.
Astrid chuckled, "Mattie, you’re too hasty. You haven’t even finished the conversation before acting this way."
As Mattie struggled to get to her feet, Astrid bent down, her voice taking on a conspiratorial tone.
"I found out some more interesting news," she said, "And that is... Mattie, you killed Tonia’s real daughter."
Mattie’s eyes widened in shock, her face pale. "No, that’s impossible," she whispered, "How did you even find her biological child?" she fired at Aatrid who only kept smiling.
But she proceeded, "Imagine what will happen when Tonia finds out. Oh, what about Zach?"
Mattie shook her head, "No, it can’t be. You’re lying."
Astrid leaned in closer, her voice taking on a sinister tone. "It’s a punishment my mom had given to your mom. She made them exchange babies at birth for all the pain she caused her."
Mattie, not able to contain her anger, raised her hand to slap Astrid. But Astrid was too quick. She grabbed Mattie’s wrist, her fingers tightening around it.
Mattie struggled to free herself, but Astrid held firm. "How did you know all this?" Mattie asked.
Astrid’s smile grew wider. "Have you forgotten that my mom and Aunt Becky are best friends?"
Mattie’s eyes widened in shock, and she felt like she’d been punched in the gut. "So she knows all this while that I am not the real daughter of Adams?" she whispered.
Astrid nodded, sapping her finger. "Bingo! Now you’re sensible. Though you would have gotten a good life if Tonia still wasn’t your mother... that girl might not have had good money, but she got a scholarship. Didn’t you end her because she had no one to fight for her?"
Astrid burst out laughing, the sound echoing through the room. Mattie shook her head, her hands covering her ears. "No, no, no! This can’t be!" she screamed.
Astrid’s laughter stopped abruptly, and she winked at Mattie. "Stephan called to tell me he got more news for me. I wonder what it would be."
Mattie’s eyes widened in horror, and she screamed again, her head on her leg as she squatted trying to block all these.
Then the door swung open, and Zach rushed in, his face etched with concern.
"What’s wrong?" he asked, jerking Mattie to her feet.
Mattie pointed toward the door, her eyes wild with fear. "Astrid is there! She’s threatening me! She showed me a picture!"
But when they turned to look at the door, there was no one there. Zach’s expression turned wary, and he scoffed. "There’s no one there, Mattie."
Mattie shook her head, trying to explain. "I saw her! She was right there! She showed me a picture!" she let out trying to show her dad the pictures But Zach just raised an eyebrow when the ground was empty.
"There’s no picture, Mattie. You are just imagining things."
Mattie’s eyes filled with tears, and she felt a wave of desperation wash over her. "I’m not imagining things! I saw her! She was right there!"
Zach’s expression softened slightly, but his voice remained firm.
"Mattie, I am giving you a last chance. If this happens again, you will be taken to the psychiatric hospital," he announced, making Mattie freeze.
