Chapter 276: A FIGHT BETWEEN THEM

Chapter 276: A FIGHT BETWEEN THEM

As Astrid slipped out of Adam’s villa, she patted Paige’s hair, with a huge smile.

"I will be back tomorrow night, make sure you get things ready without Dad’s knowledge," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Paige nodded, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Got it, ma’am," Astrid smirked, knowing she had an ally in the young girl.

As they made their way to the car parked outside, Astrid’s eyes scanned the surroundings, ensuring they weren’t being watched.

She opened the door, and Astrid slipped into the car, as the car door closed with a soft thud, and Astrid pulled off her mask, revealing her face.

Rowan, who was driving, raised an eyebrow, his eyes meeting Astrid’s in the rearview mirror.

Astrid grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "It was a blast," she announced. "You should have seen the look on Mattie’s face," she added.

Rowan’s expression remained neutral, but there was a smile at the edge of his lip.

"Why didn’t you call Julian to do this for you?" he asked, finally when he was sure she had settled down.

Astrid’s grin faltered, and she turned to Rowan, her eyes searching. "I might trust him with everything," she said,

"But I wanted to do this with you."

Rowan’s eyes locked onto hers, his expression unreadable. Astrid’s eyes dropped, and she fidgeted with her hands, her fingers twisting around her necklace.

"I am still scared," she admitted, her voice laced with vulnerability. "I am scared he has little feelings tied to Mattie in his heart and that is holding him back."

Rowan’s expression softened, I understand.

"Julian is a slow poison," he said, "He waits for the bottle to get filled up before reacting." Astrid looked up at him from the rearview mirror.

"Did you know he found the people who hurt you in Paris and got them arrested?" Rowan asked, Astrid’s mouth dropped open, and she shook her head, her eyes sparkling with shock.

"No, he just told me he dealt with them, but he never said anything more." Rowan chuckled.

"You shouldn’t be surprised. Julian doesn’t play games with you, when it comes to you he is blindly in love."

Astrid’s face flushed, and she looked away, her hands wrapping around her necklace. "I am proud to have him as my husband," she proclaimed with a huge grin on her face.

Rowan rolled his eyes, his expression wry. "I only gave up pursuing you because I knew Julian was serious about you."

Astrid’s eyes snapped back to Rowan’s, her expression surprised. "You never told me... you care about me?"

Rowan shrugged, his eyes fixed on the road, "Julian left his idea with me, and he even allowed me to sign a contract with his two most powerful investors so I would leave you for him."

Astrid’s mouth was left ajar and she stared at Rowan, her eyes wide with shock. "I had no idea," she whispered.

"Julian is the kind of person who spoils the one he loves," he explained calmly.

"He’s also part of why Mattie turned out the way she did. If you feel like his hands are tied, it’s only because of guilt, not because he cares about her."

Astrid’s eyes locked onto Rowan’s, her expression searching. "Julian is dangerous when it comes to games, but he’s linear with people he likes," Rowan continued. "Even though he’s a slow poison."

Astrid’s face flushed, and she looked away, her hands still playing with her necklace.

"He worked with me for the first time to reach out to the midwife because of you," Rowan revealed "So, you should always see the bright side of it. Julian loves no one as he loves you."

Astrid’s eyes snapped back to Rowan’s, "Thank you," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Rowan smiled, "I’ll always be here for you if you need any help Astrid even though it might cost me something."

As they pulled up, Rowan turned to Astrid with a serious look, "When are we going on our date?" he asked.

Astrid’s eyes widened in surprise, and she stared at Rowan, her expression blank. "What date?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Rowan glared at her, and Astrid’s eyes sparkled with recollection as she said, recalling it was a reward for the juicy information he had given to her.

"Oh... I remember now." She hesitated for a moment before adding, "But Julian..."

Rowan’s expression turned mischievous, and he said, "I know I’m already in trouble with Julian, so I consider this a payback from you."

Astrid nodded, a sly smile spreading across her face. "Soon," she promised, before alighting from the car and bidding Rowan farewell.

As she drove away in her car, Rowan watched her go, his eyes lingering on her departing figure. But his gaze was interrupted by a tap on his window. He turned to see Julian’s angry face staring back at him.

Rowan’s eyes widened in surprise, he knew Julain would find out about this meeting but not this fast.

He quickly opened the door to alight from the car. But before he could even stand up straight, Julian’s fist connected with his face, sending him stumbling backward.

Rowan touched his cheek, wincing in pain, but before he could recover, Julian punched him again.

"Dude, Relax!" Rowan yelled, holding up his hands in defense.

But Nulain was more than furious to relax. "I thought I warned you to stay away from Astrid!"

"We did nothing wrong, Julian. Astrid is an adult, and she can do what she feels like. You shouldn’t always butt into her life. She allows you to do your thing; you should return the favor." he retorted in his defense.

Julian’s face darkened, and he raised his fist, ready to punch Rowan again. But Rowan dodged the blow and countered with a swift punch to Julian’s jaw. Julian stumbled backward, touching his face, and glared up at Rowan.

Rowan’s eyes gleamed with a warning, and he said, "That punch is to remind you that you fucking have a jewel. If you ever mess up, I won’t think twice before taking her from you."

Julian’s eyes narrowed, and he snarled, "I am holding back because you’re still going on a date with Astrid." Rowan let out.

"You asshole!"

"Julian, you can punch me down for that day, but only Astrid will decide what happens next."

Julian’s face twisted with rage, and he grabbed Rowan’s shirt, his fists clenched. "I don’t want to see you anywhere near Astrid, not even an inch," he growled.

But before he could attack Rowan again, his phone rang, shrill in the silence.

He hesitated, then released Rowan’s shirt as he saw the caller ID, which was none other than his wife. Julian’s expression softened, his anger dissipating.

He took a deep breath, his eyes still glaring at Rowan, and said, "Astrid saved you this time, but don’t forget, I will destroy you if you cross the limit again."

With that, Julian turned and got into his car, driving away and leaving Rowan to nurse his battered face.
