Accidental Marriage With Mr Billioniare -
Chapter 262: THEIR MEET UP
Chapter 262: THEIR MEET UP
Astrid stepped into the dimly lit, unfinished building, her eyes adjusting to the faint glow of flickering fluorescent lights.
The air was thick with the smell of concrete dust and decay. She looked elegant, just like always, clutching tightly around a customized beautiful bag, while her other hand was around her small purse.
She almost planned to turn back to see the kind of building Landon had asked for their meet-up.
"I am here already," she texted Landon, already getting annoyed for this kind of place. Julian must know she came here, she had come without telling him.
As she walked deeper into the building, a man emerged from the shadows, his eyes scanning her up and down before nodding in approval.
"Astrid Logan," he called and she nodded her head.
Without another word he led her through the maze of unfinished corridors, then they came across a big door with two bouncers by the edge.
The moment they saw the man they both nodded and opened the door, Astrid eyes widened seeing the inside now having people dancing like crazy, drinking, and some almost having sex in the open.
She swallowed hard, it was evening time already, what did she expect? And the crazy part was it was her first time coming into this kind of place, she worked in the bar but this was worse than what she had experienced then.
They finally arrived at a makeshift VIP section, cordoned off from the rest of the building by a flimsy partition and away from the hall filled with people. Astrid was sure this was the deadly place she was going into but reminded herself she was doing it for her family as she walked inside.
The area was dimly lit, with a single, flickering candle casting eerie shadows on the walls.
A bottle of wine chilled in an ice bucket, and two glasses sat on a rickety table, where Landon sat on one of the chairs, already waiting for her arrival.
Astrid raised an eyebrow as she took in the setup, trying to hide her fear hoping she wouldn’t regret this.
"Wow, I didn’t expect... this," she mumbled walking inside.
Landon smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I am afraid this isn’t exactly a five-star establishment like you are used to. But it serves its purpose." Landon let out as he gestured for her to sit.
The man who had led her there pulled out her chair as she took her to sit, elegantly with a small smile.
He poured Astrid a glass of wine, and Astrid, not bothering to tell him she doesn’t take wine, pretended to take a sip, her eyes never leaving his.
Landon gestures for the man to leave and without hesitation, he bowed and walked off.
Astrid dropped the bag she was holding by her side as she finally asked the reason for her invitation.
"So, why did you want me to come here?"
Landon leaned back in his chair, a sly smile spreading across his face. "You were the one who said we should have a private talk, Astrid. I am only accommodating your request."
Astrid smirked at this, she had only said they should have a private discussion because he threatened her with her family.
"Fine," she mumbled as she pulled out the bag she had brought in, now placing it on the table.
She didn’t miss the curious gaze he had on, Astrid pushed it forward for him.
"A little gift from me," Landon stared at her confused, "Why?"
Astrid took in a deep breath as she leaned closer to him. "What do you think? I am trying to make you change your mind about threatening me, after all, we can work together."
Landon’s eyes widened pulling the bag closer as he brought out a box from Itz
He opened the box, revealing a collection of luxurious gifts. There was a sleek, latest-model watch, a pair of stylish shoes, and a set of high-end clothes. But it was the watch that truly caught his attention, and he couldn’t help but stare at it in awe.
"This is... Awesome, the latest Rolex." Landon breathed, his eyes locked onto the watch.
"Guess I finally caught your taste," Astrid announced and the smile disappeared from his face.
"Common, this isn’t still buying my whole trust but..." he mumbled as she covered the box now placing the bag beside him.
"It might buy you time," he mumbled.
"I heard you abducted Mattie, but still want to be caught by my husband and Miles." He scoffed at this, picking up his wine.
"It hurts that God gave me a useless daughter when he could just make it yours." Astrid eyes narrowed at this, she still doesn’t trust this man.
When Miles told her Mattie was abducted by Landon to warn her not to go close to Landon, he almost killed his daughter. What more could he do to Astrid?
"Are you mad I hurt Mattie or satisfied?" he asked. A smile grazed Astrid’s face
"The gift is like I am returning your favor, Landon. If I wanted to hate on you, it would be bad."
Landon smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. "But you have not fulfilled your promise yet," he reminded her.
Astrid raised an eyebrow. "What promise?" she asked, her voice innocent.
Landon’s smile grew wider. "Clearing my name, of course," he said, his eyes never leaving hers.
Astrid’s expression turned skeptical, she hadn’t agreed to help him clear his name. If he is evil he should be trapped in prison forever, it is crazy how is alive for years but everyone just found out.
"Are you accused, or is it the truth?" she asked.
Landon shrugged, his eyes glinting with indifference. "I don’t care," he said, his voice flat.
Astrid’s smirk grew wider. "I don’t help murderers," she said, her voice firm. "You can ask Mattie to do that for you, it should be easy for her."
Arid affirmed standing up to leave, Landon’s next words stopped her in her tracks. "I could kill you right now, and nobody would ever trace it back to me."
Astrid laughed, out coldly as she turned back to him, "So you are surely a murderer?" they hire one another Astrid thought recalling how Mattie killed her mum.
She took a step closer to Landon, "Kill me?" she repeated his words, "Yeah, did I scare you."
Astrid snickered at this, and for the first time, she didn’t feel fear but irritation.
"I was born with the name Daniel but got to know my original biological name was supposed to be Adam. Then I inherited the name Gilbert, and finally, I got married to my husband with the name Logan."
Her voice dropped to a whisper, her eyes glinting with steel. "Tell me, why should I be scared of you when I have three powerful families surrounding me?"
Landon stood from his chair in furry, but she sat him back down with her next word.
"Julian knows my location, same as Miles..... Oh.." Astrid paused as she tapped her finger on her lips like she recalled something.
"Did I tell you I have guards watching over me right now?" Landon gulped down nervously at this.
"Well, clearing of your name would never come to pass because Julian won’t let you go." She shrugged her shoulders.
"So it’s your choice, kill me now to see if what I just said is the truth," Landon’s jaw clenched at their frustration at his loss of words.
Astrid saw how his resolve had weakened, she was sure he had no words to say to her and wouldn’t dare pull any trick.
"As for clearing your name, I can work on that for you, but you have to promise to disappear from the city forever." With that, Astrid turned to leave, but Landon stopped her.
"When would that be ready?" he asked, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Astrid smiled a hint of triumph in her voice. "Soon," she replied and walked out of the room. The men parted to let her through, creating a path for her to exit.
As soon as she stepped out of the dark room, Astrid let out a deep breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.
"Damn, that was close," she muttered to herself. She was so proud of herself for not letting Landon see her weakness.
Still trying to compose herself, Astrid finds her way through the crowds of people dancing and laughing. She shook her head, overwhelmed by the noise and chaos.
Just then, she witnessed a commotion nearby. A guy accidentally brushed past a girl wearing a mask and cap, causing her to drop a file. "Oh, sorry," the guy apologized, but the girl didn’t seem amused.
"Watch where you’re going!" she snapped, her voice low and irritated. Astrid watches the girl hastily pick up the file and disappear into the crowd.
Only then did the voice play in Astrid’s head again and her eyes widened in shock as she recognized the girl’s voice.
"Mattie," she whispered, "What is she doing here? And what files are those?"
