Chapter 257: WHAT IF I KILL HIM!?

Astrid rushed to the hospital, her heart racing with worry, accompanied by Julain and rest lads. As they arrived, they found Tonia already there, her eyes red and puffy from crying.

Astrid quickly brushed past her, approaching the doctor who had walked into the room, "That is the family doctor," Miles announced and Astrid gripped his hands, her voice shaking with concern.

"What happened to my grandfather?" Astrid asked, her eyes pleading for information, same as Miles.

The doctor, a middle-aged man with a kind face, took a deep breath before explaining.

"He suffered a myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack. He had been experiencing symptoms for a while, but unfortunately, he had been avoiding medical attention despite my warnings. Today, a minor incident triggered a fatal cardiac event."

"Oh my.." Astrid’s voice stuttered, "If you may excuse me, I need to do some more check-ups for him." The doctor leg out walking out as Astrid’s leg went weak.

Just then Tonia glanced at Astrid, rage embedded in them. Tonia stormed towards Astrid, her voice rising.

"You’re the cause of all this! If you hadn’t been playing your schemes, my dad would have noticed something was wrong. You’re a curse, Astrid! You’ve brought nothing but trouble to our family."

Tonia grabbed Astrid’s shirt, her fingers digging deep into the fabric. "You’re a monster! You’ve destroyed everything. You took my sister away from me, you even killed the man who fathered you."

"Mum! Careful! You are going to hurt her!" Miles yelled grabbing Tonia’s hands to calm her down, but she shook him off.

"I get it, I am not my mother, so now you will support everyone, right? Your sister is at home, unable to even come to the hospital because of the mess Astrid has caused her, she almost got killed!" She spat in anger as she pushed Astrid, Julian also walked in at the same time.

He needed to park the car so he couldn’t come in with them, seeing how she pushed Astrid he quickly moved forward, grabbing Tonia’s hand and warning her off.

"Don’t dare touch my wife again, or I will make you regret it,"

Tonia stared at Julian and broke into a leap of laughter, "See, even Julian, who used to respect me, doesn’t anymore. All because of you!" She let out pointing fingers at Astrie but Julain stood in front of Astrid shooting Tonia a warning stare.

"The people who deserve my respect will earn it. You don’t deserve it, Tonia."

Tonia was so mad at Julian that words couldn’t control her anger anymore, and she smacked Julian across the face.

But Julian didn’t flinch, he didn’t react one bit to the slap. Instead, he looked at Tonia with a steady gaze.

"You can slap me, Tonia, but never touch my wife again." he let out like a last warning.

Just then, the doctor walked out again, looking frazzled. "I am sorry to interrupt, but Mr Gilbert is now in the ICU. You should go visit him."

This shit Tonia up and Astrid who stood behind Julian walked up to the doctor, one could see the fear in her.

"Doctor, What are his chances?" she asked, hoping she wouldn’t get bad news.

The doctor’s expression was somber and this wasn’t sitting well with Astrid.

"We’re doing everything we can, but it’s touch and go. I’m afraid it’s going to be a long and difficult time around."

Astrid’s heart sank, and she felt a wave of despair wash over her. She looked over at Julian, and he quickly moved toward her wrapping his arms around her, offering what little comfort he could.

"He is going to be fine," Julian’s voice whispered behind her ears.

"Can we go see him now?" Julian asked and the doctor gave a go-ahead.

"But just Mrs. Adam and Mrs. Logan can go in," Astrid glanced over to Julain and gave her a reassuring tap.

"Alright..." Tonia lets out already talking inside the ICU followed by Astrid.

Astrid’s eyes welled up with tears as she entered eyes gazed at her grandfather’s frail form, his usual agility and strength now replaced by the beeping of machines and the soft hiss of oxygen.

"Father!" Tonia let out in tears, as he kneels beside her dad, her hands grabbing his arms as tears fall freely from her eyes.

"You can’t leave me this way, most when I didn’t even have my child with me, who would take over your company?" Astrid hiss at this.

Astrid habdt uttered a word at Tonia. She felt like she also needed to lash out because her father was in the hospital but her statement now said otherwise.

"Aunt... are you already thinking how he is going to die, the doctor hasn’t ever done anything relating to death at all." Tonia stood from the bedside wiping the tears from her eyes now staring at Astrid.

"You know, you don’t have to act like you care if he lives or dies?" Astrid eyes widened upon hearing this.

"Wh... what? I... love.." but Tonia cut her off with a scoff. "You must be so happy? Now that you know Mattie Isn’t my real daughter.. but get this in your head, Mattie has been there before you, so I don’t care if she is my biological daughter or not... she would take over."

"Wow... you make me speechless," Astrid breathes out, still in a state of shock.

"Surprise? You already know all of Mattie’s tricks. So there is no need to act in front of you."

Astrid hands trembled at this, she moved toward her, her teeth gritting in rage.

"You sure you know how to handle an office you hardly go to?"

"What?" Tonia let out, confused.

"You want his company, his wealth, you even act evil to your sister to get the company.

"Ho... how dare you!" She yelled but Astrid smirked, "We are in the ICU unit you wouldn’t want to disturb him," Astrid glanced over to Mr Jerkins who had stood by the door for a while now.

"Mr Jerkin... please Aunt Tonia isn’t in her right senses because of Granddad’s condition if it will be best she is taken out."

"What?" Tonia’s words got stuck in her throat when Mr Jerkin moved forward.

"You!" Tonia yelled pointing at Astrid, but she quickly grabbed her hand as she drew nearer to her.

"The company? It was supposed to be my mother, to begin with... I got some little secret you wouldn’t want for it to spread out."

Astrid gestured to Mr.Jenkins and immediately he moved closer to her, hoping for her to leave.

Tonia glared at her, "I promise I will make you regret it." With that, he stormed out and Astrid felt like she was sloping her limp.

She moved toward her granddad and sat beside him, fear gripping her heart as she recalled the tragic events surrounding her mother’s passing. She was terrified that history might repeat itself.

Just then Julian asked inside the room, along with Miles and Maren she quickly grabbed Julian’s hand, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Julian, please... if there’s a way to keep Tonia away from my grandfather, I am scared she might hurt him. I don’t trust her around him, not one bit. I don’t want to lose him," Astrid pleaded, her eyes brimming with tears.

Julian sighed, his expression sympathetic, but before he could respond, Miles stepped in, a thoughtful look on his face.

"I think I might have an idea," Miles affirmed with a sly grin on his face.

"We can’t exactly ban Tonia from visiting grandfather, but we can limit her access. I can talk to the hospital administration and arrange for a restricted visiting schedule, one that ensures Tonia can only visit during supervised hours."

Astrid’s eyes widened in hope, and she turned to Julian, who nodded in agreement.

"That’s a great idea, Miles," Julian said, his voice firm. "We’ll make sure to keep Tonia’s visits supervised and limited, to ensure Donald’s safety and well-being."

Miles nodded, his expression determined. "We can go take care of that now." Then Miles patted Astrid’s head. "Don’t worry, we’ll keep your grandfather safe."

They both walked out leaving Maren and Astrid in the room, "You do know, this is the time you need to fight for the company right?"

Astrid took in a deep breath, "I don’t know, I am only after the ones in the care of Nadine and her mum.. after Josh died I noticed Julian had been working on getting it back for me, that is the one she worked for so I want it back"

Maren sat beside Astrid, "You want to make it back to the top with it, or the one which is already at the top."

Astrid smiled at this, "My husband is already rich, and I am making..." Maren placed her finger on her lip.

"Tonia doesn’t deserve a bit of happiness Astrid, why is this? I couldn’t predict your actions for these past few days. Why are you beginning to draw back?"

"Your mum was killed because of this silly company, and you are still going to leave it for Tonia."

"Maren.. my granddad isn’t dead yet let’s not talk about it now." Astrid cut her off.

Just then they both hear claps from behind them and look to the direction only to be met with Landon.

"And what if I kill him right here and now?"
