Chapter 255: HER SHAKEN SELF
Chapter 255: HER SHAKEN SELF
Mattie’s fragile form can be seen bound to a chair, her wrists and ankles restrained by coarse ropes.
A tattered blindfold stopped her vision, plunging her into an inky blackness that seemed to suffocate her.
She kicked and squirmed, her muffled cries echoing off the cold, damp walls of the dark room.
"Anyone there! Someone save me!" she screamed, her voice hoarse from shouting. But her pleas fell on deaf ears.
The only response was the oppressive silence, punctuated by the faint sound of scurrying rodents.
"Please, my dad! Will pay whatever money you need! Just don’t hurt me!" she cried out.
Suddenly, a faint rustling noise caught her attention. Mattie’s ears perked up, her heart racing with fear.
The sound grew louder, and she could sense the sound crawling on the ground, it was the sound of an iron.
As the noise drew closer, Mattie’s anxiety spiked. She strained against her restraints, her fingers trembling with fear.
Just then A snicker escaped from someone, sending a chill down her spine.
"Who can hurt me?" she could tell immediately it was the same voice that had brought her here.
"Who!" he yelled this time his face closer to Mattie’s face as his breath fanned her face making her stomach recoil.
"My father... Zach," she stammered, trying to keep her voice steady. "He will get revenge if you hurt me."
A cruel laugh echoed through the room, followed by a stinging slap that sent Mattie’s head reeling. The force of the blow left her stunned, her cheek throbbing with pain.
"You are my daughter," the voice growled, "Tell me, who would dare hurt me because I took back my daughter? I didn’t abduct you, the last time I checked you got into my car!"
Mattie’s mind reeled as she struggled to comprehend the situation. She mumbled in shock, "How... How can I be your daughter?"
The blindfold was immediately ripped off, and Mattie’s gaze met the twisted Landon’s face. Fear, shock, and tears stained her face as she shook her head in denial.
"I am an Adam," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I can’t be the daughter of a... a nobody."
Landon’s face contorted with rage, and he struck her across the face with full force again, sending her crashing to the ground.
"You bitch!" he barked out.
"Astrid was supposed to be my daughter, not you! Only she has the power to get me what I want now."
Mattie’s hands trembled as she raised them in a futile attempt to shield herself from the blows.
Landon’s foot connected with her stomach, sending a wave of pain coursing through her body.
"Maybe... It was a mistake," she gasped in pain. "She must be your daughter, not me."
Landon’s laughter echoed through the room. He held up his phone, displaying a DNA report that seemed to confirm his claims, he had received it anonymously.
"You can see this, can’t you?" he sneered, his eyes glinting with triumph. "It shows we are a 99.99% match, father and daughter."
Mattie’s world crumbled around her. She couldn’t believe this, she coughed up blood, her body wracked with pain, as she looked up at Landon in distress.
"If... if you are my father," she whispered, her voice laced with anguish, "Why are you doing this to me?"
Landon’s expression twisted into a monstrous grin. "Because you never came from Elizabeth," he announced.
"I only wanted the child that came from her, but Elizabeth was cunning. She knew Astrid wasn’t my daughter, and she made everyone believe it so I would protect Astrid. Why do you think Josh didn’t kill her from birth knowing he isn’t her father."
Mattie’s eyes widened in horror, Astrid has always been protected, and despite her mother not gaining much she still finds cunning ways to protect her daughter.
"You are a disaster," he sneered, his eyes filled with contempt. "I don’t want a bitch who came from a prostitute."
Mattie’s hands trembled with rage, her heart heavy with grief. "Pro... prostitute.." she structured in shock.
"Well, you only stole someone else’s position all these while, shouldn’t you be grateful to Astrid." Mattie still couldn’t believe this, recalling Astrid words, so this was what she meant. She took everything from Astrid, not the other way around.
"How... How did I end up with Tonia?" her voice was so low that you could barely catch it.
Landon’s smirk grew wider. "That’s how you know how cunning Elizabeth could be. As a punishment for her sister, she switched you with Tonia’s child."
Mattie’s world shattered into a million pieces. S she can’t even know who her mother is if she wants to find out who her mother is.
"No! No! This can’t be!" Again Mattie’s screams were abruptly silenced by Landon’s vicious slap. Her face stung, and her eyes welled up with tears.
"You have no right to cry," Landon sneered, his eyes blazing with contempt. "You have no heart to scream. You are useless, nothing in this world."
He pulled out his pistol, the cold metal glinting in the dim light. Mattie’s eyes widened in terror as he pointed the gun at her.
"You have caused nothing but scandal," Landon roared, "You had a good name, but you gave everything to that bastard Zach, the one who took the one I loved away from me."
Tears streamed down Mattie’s face as she trembled, her body paralyzed with fear. Landon’s finger tightened on the trigger.
"Please... you said I am your daughter. I can help you get it all back, please don’t kill me."
"Never! I don’t need you," he let out, sweat dripping down from Mattie’s face, she froze in fear as his finger moved closer to the trigger.
Just as Landon was about to pull the trigger, the sound of gunfire echoed from outside. Landon’s head jerked towards the door, his eyes narrowing.
Just then one of his men rushed in, looking frantic. "Boss, there’s a problem!"
Landon’s smirk returned, and he moved closer to Mattie, the pistol still pressed against her neck.
"If you breathe a word about me, remember I am your father," he hissed, his breath cold against her ear.
"Not only will your reputation be ruined forever, but everyone will distance themselves from you, and I will quietly finish you."
With that, Landon and his assistant slipped out of the room, disappearing into the shadows.
The door burst open, and Miles, Julian, and Maren rushed in. Miles and Maren hastened to Mattie’s side, pulling her up and supporting her while Julian’s eyes followed the place where Landon had escaped through.
"Mattie, are you okay?" Miles asked, his voice laced with concern.
But Mattie was too shaken to respond. Her eyes were vacant, her body trembling with fear. She tried to speak, but her voice caught in her throat.
Suddenly, her legs gave way, and she collapsed into Miles’ arms, losing consciousness immediately.
