Chapter 231: THE FAMILIAR BUILDING

Chapter 231: THE FAMILIAR BUILDING

Astrid stepped out of the car, Julian’s hand supporting her elbow. She looked around, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. "Where are we?" she asked Julian.

Julian smiled, he felt she was looking cute with those curious gazes. "Just come with me" he answered, leading her toward the building.

As they walked closer, Astrid’s eyes widened in surprise. The building looked familiar, but she couldn’t quite place it. "Whose building is this?" she asked Julian again.

"Just a few more minutes you would know..." he answered now as they got to the front door.

Julian clicked on the password lock and opened it, the moment he pushed it open, Astrid’s eyes widened in wonder. The entrance foyer was grand, with a sweeping staircase that curved like a ribbon up to the floors above.

The walls were beautiful moldings, and the floor was made of polished marble that gleamed like glass.

Astrid’s gaze roamed over the space, taking in every detail. She felt a strange sense of nostalgia, as if she had been here before, but couldn’t quite place when.

Julian watched her with an amused smile, "It’s beautiful, isn’t it?" he asked.

Astrid nodded, still looking around. She trailed after Julian as he walked through the foyer and into the hallway beyond.

The walls were lined with paintings and tapestries, and the air was thick with the scent of old books and leather.

As they walked, Astrid’s sense of nostalgia grew stronger. She felt as though she had walked these halls before, but couldn’t quite remember when.

Finally, they came to a door that led into a spacious living room. The room was filled with comfortable-looking couches and chairs, and the walls were lined with architectural books and decorative objects.

"Wow... Julian, I would like to be friends with the owner of this building," she murmured, rushing toward the books as she sniffed at the beautiful smell of books.

Julian walked over to one of the couches and sat down, watching Astrid as she looked around the room. She wandered over to a bookshelf, running her fingers over the spines of the books.

"I feel like I’ve been here before," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Julian’s smile grew wider. "Maybe you have," he replied and Astrid turned to him, her eyes narrowing. "What do you mean?" she asked.

But Julian just shook his head. "Nothing," he said. "Just look around. See if anything sparks your memory... I would like to respond to some messages."

Just then, Astrid’s phone rang, shrill in the silence. She picked it up, her eyes scanning the screen. "Maren?" she said, her voice concerned.

Maren’s voice was panicked on the other end of the line. "Astrid, oh my god, Miles knows about the pregnancy. He knows I didn’t abort it, he knows everything is fake." Maren rushed her words.

Astrid’s socket almost bulged out, "What? How did he find out?"

Maren’s voice was trembling. "I don’t know, he wanted to talk to me about it but had a sudden meeting that had cut out conversation. What do I do, Astrid?"

Astrid hesitated, unsure of what to say. "Maybe you should just plead for forgiveness," she replied since that was the only thing coming to her head. "Maybe he will calm down after a few days."

Julian looked up, his eyes narrowing slightly as he wondered who Astrid was talking to.

Maren sighed on the other end of the line. "You are right, it’s for the best that he knows now."

Astrid nodded, even though Maren couldn’t see her, "Astrid... do you think he would break up with..."

Maren’s words were left hanging as Miles snatched the phone from her:

"Hello, little cous... never knew you would also plot against me too?" Astrid eyes flickered at this as she heard Miles’s voice on the other end of the phone.

"She only did it because she loves you." Astrid let out. Julian’s eyes snapped to Astrid’s face, his expression curious.

Miles’s voice was smooth on the other end of the line. "I won’t hurt her, Astrid, enjoy your little show with your man, while I deal with my issues."

Astrid’s eyes narrowed. "You better not hurt her. Or you will have to answer me."

Miles chuckled, "I am shaking in my boots, Astrid."

"Hey!" but before she could respond, Miles hung up the phone.

Astrid’s eyes widened in alarm as she stared at her phone. She quickly turned to Julian, her voice urgent.

"We need to go to Miles’ place now. He might hurt Maren’s feelings again."

Julian raised an eyebrow, not moving an inch from the couch "Astrid, Maren hurt his feelings first. She trapped him with her cunning ways."

Astrid was left speechless at this, "You also knew?"

Julian shrugged, unbothered."Oh, about the fake pregnancy... Miles already knew about it for a long time now."

"What? How did he know?"

Julian leaned against the chair, his eyes casual. "He told me he figured it out a few months after Maren lied about it. He didn’t say anything because he wanted to see how far she would take it."

Astrid’s face was pale, her eyes wide with surprise. "Why didn’t he say anything? Why did he still...?"

Julian’s expression turned serious, his eyes locked on Astrid’s. "Miles is a complicated person, Astrid. He doesn’t always react the way you expect him to."

Astrid took in deep breath, "He should have just left her alone. She was healing already without him. Did he want to hurt her feelings even more?"

"Miles finally realized how stupid he was when she didn’t care about him anymore. After she lied to him, he still didn’t trust her. Everyone knows how cunning she is, so Miles went to find out the truth after she told him."

Astrid’s eyes narrowed. "So, why is he still bothering her? Does he want revenge?"

Julian’s voice turned cold at this, Miles is his best friend he knew how devastated he found out the one his heart was beginning to learn to lie to him again just to get him.

"He traveled away for a while to clear his mind when you were not around. She also acted distant, and he finally realized he still loved her, lies and all. So I advised him to go for it, so he doesn’t regret it like I do."

Astrid’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Regret? Like what?"

Julian’s expression turned wistful as he admired the lady before him. "My relationship with you. You left for a year and when you came back, you wanted a divorce. I deserved it, I know. I was always wrapped around Mattie..."

Astrid scoffed. "You were always kissing her, too. I remember that night I was trying to make up my mind to give you a chance, and I found you kissing her."

Julian’s eyes dropped at this recalling that dreaded night he lost her. "I never initiated the kiss. It was a mistake. By the time I pushed her away, you were already gone, and you made up your mind. I wanted to stop you, but I felt like I was stupid, too. So, I just watched you from afar, even though I missed you so much."

Astrid’s expression softened, and she moved toward him and sat on Julian’s thigh, playing with his hair.

"When exactly did you start falling for me, without getting your heart mixed up with Mattie’s?"

Julian smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I fell for you the first day I kissed you. You intoxicated me to the point where I always force you to kiss me,"

Astrid rolled her eyes, a smile playing on her lips. "But you still kiss Mattie. Maybe you still have sex with her, too."

Julian’s expression turned serious. "I have never had sex with Mattie since the night we got married. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. You are the only one I want, Astrid."

Astrid’s smile widened, and she leaned in to kiss Julian’s cheek. "As long as you haven’t shared a bed with Mattie since then, I can manage that. But you still need to put in more effort."

Julian smiled, pulling Astrid closer. "I promise I will," he whispered, his lips brushing against hers.

Astrid locked her lips with Julian’s, their kiss deepening as her hands wrapped around his neck.

They were both lost at the moment. Julian’s hands surrounded her waist, pulling her closer as their tongues danced together.

But their intimate moment was shattered by a loud voice, echoing through the hallway. "Boss!" Ryan the guards called out, but he stopped abruptly, seeing them.

Astrid’s eyes widened as she tried to pull away from Julian, but he held her firm, his lips still brushing against hers.

"The show is about to begin," Julian whispered, his breath hot against Astrid’s skin.

Astrid’s gaze followed Julian’s nod, and her eyes landed on a shocking sight.

She watched as Josh was being dragged into the building, unconscious.

His body was limp, his head lolling to one side as the guards threw him to the ground in front of her.

She glanced at Julian stunned "He’s right here with you," Julian said, "You can ask him any questions you wish to know."
