Chapter 229: THE REPORT
Chapter 229: THE REPORT
Maren and Miles drove in silence, the only sound echoing was the hum of the engine and the soft music playing in the background. Suddenly, Miles turned off the main road and onto a smaller route.
"Where are we going?" Maren asked, looking around at the unfamiliar road, she had thought they would be going to Astrid I’m the hospital only for Miles to change the route:
Miles glanced at her, his eyes softening. "We both need some time to ourselves," he answered, his eyes still on the road.
"You have been busy taking care of Astrid, your business, and dealing with all sorts of dramas. You need a break."
Maren frowned, now glaring at him "But Astrid needs me," she said, her voice laced with worry.
Miles placed a reassuring hand on her knee. "Julian is with her," he said. "He will take care of her, while I do the same to you."
Maren looked at Miles, even though his eyes were still on the road she noticed how tense he was.
He had also been dealing with his own set of problems, with his sister’s antics that had caused the world to be on a troll.
She reached out and placed a soothing hand on his thigh and Miles’s eyes flicked to hers, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. He placed his hand over hers, his fingers intertwining with hers.
"Thank you," he whispered, his voice filled with gratitude. "Just being with you makes me feel better, so I might be too greedy to allow you to spend that time with her again."
Maren’s heart swelled at this, she wasn’t expecting the same Miles she knew to care this much about her.
She squeezed his hand gently, trying to convey her feelings without words.
"Fine... do what you feel like if that would ease your burden."
The car ride was silent after that, but it was a comfortable silence. Maren leaned her head against the headrest, watching Miles as he drove. His jaw clenched in concentration.
As they drove, the scenery outside changed from bustling city streets to rolling hills and lush green forests. The air grew cooler and fresher, filled with the scent of blooming flowers.
Maren closed her eyes, letting the soft music and the gentle hum of the engine lull her into a state of relaxation.
Miles glanced at her, a soft smile playing on his lips. He reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, still with her eyes closed she enjoyed the little moment.
"We have gotten to our destination," Miles announced as Maren opened her eyes, looking around.
"Where are we?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Miles smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "My mansion," he said, his voice filled with pride. "It’s been a while since you came."
Maren’s heart skipped a beat as she looked at Miles, really looking at him.
Miles’s face lit up with a warm smile, his eyes shining with happiness. He squeezed her hand gently, his fingers intertwining with hers.
"You hardly come here in a sober state, so I will be bringing you here for the first time when you aren’t drunk."
Miles leaned in, his lips brushing against hers in a soft, gentle kiss. Maren’s heart skipped a beat as she felt his lips on hers.
"I want to spend every moment with you now my love, always remind me that you have a man who always wants you in his arms when you are busy." arem could only smile at this.
Finally, they walked inside, and with just a snap of fingers from Miles the housekeeper rushed toward Miles, greeting him warmly.
The rest of the staff followed, welcoming Maren with smiles and nods. It was clear that this was the first time they had seen their boss with Maren in this way. He was always mad at her.
Miles snapped his fingers, and the staff gathered around. He introduced Maren to his housekeeper, Kayla, a warm-eyed woman in her fifties. Kayla’s face lit up with a smile as she greeted Maren.
"Everyone, this is Maren, my girlfriend," Miles announced, his voice filled with pride.
The staff erupted into applause, leaving Maren and Miles both shocked. Kayla beamed with approval.
"I have been expecting this news for a while," she said, patting Miles on the back. "I knew you two would make a great couple. You never brought another girl home, aside from Maren."
Maren’s face flushed with pleasure as Miles smiled, not denying Kayla’s word.
Kayla clapped her hands together. "Now, you both should freshen up for dinner."
Without Maren Miles headed to his room, the room door pushed open and Maren was shocked to see that it had been redecorated.
The last time she was here his room was bland without much decoration, just normal male room designs.
But now Unaware Beautiful pictures of her were pasted on the wall, his room was now looking more lively with her pictures.
"Wow!" she cooed as she ran over to them with her hands caressing them.
"How did you get these?" she asked, turning to Miles with a smile.
Miles avoided her gaze, his face sheepish. "I just wanted to have you around me all the time, so I took some of your pictures unaware," he admitted.
Maren’s heart swelled with delight as her arms flew to her heart, strolling back to him.
"I am sorry I haven’t been giving you the time you deserve," she said, her whisper of guilt laced in her tongue.
Miles smiled, his eyes softening. "Forgiveness is accepted if you pay more attention to me henceforth." Maren nodded her head giving a promise sign.
"Go freshen up," he announced.
Maren peeled off her shirt, revealing her bra, she still had her trousers on She turned to Miles, a mischievous glint in her eye as he turned his back on her.
"Why are you shy?" she teased, walking toward him and turning his back to look at her"You have slept with me before, and seen every part of my body."
Miles’s eyes widened as he pulled her close, embracing her warmly. "You are my woman," he whispered, his voice vibrating against her ears. "I promised to give the utmost respect to the woman who would be mine."
Maren smirked, her hands tightening around his back. She lifted her head, kissing Adam’s apple, and Miles froze, his eyes widening in surprise.
"Don’t take it to the next level," he warned, his voice strained. "I don’t think I can control myself around you."
Just then, his phone rang, and he pulled it out, still embracing Maren. She decided to place her heart on his chest as his voice vibrated against her ears as he spoke on the phone.
After the call, he asked Maren to freshen up, saying he wanted to cross-check some palate works. Maren nodded. He placed a small kiss on her forehead and he walked out of the room.
As soon as he was gone, Maren turned about to go to the bathroom when her eyes saw a file on his cabinet.
She walked over to the top of his cabinet and picked up a paper. Weirdly, it was a hospital file which was still sealed but it had her name on it, her curiosity was piqued.
She tore the file hoping to explain to Miles that it was because she had said her name, but she was met with the shock of her life.
When she saw it was her medical report, signifying that she was never pregnant, let alone having an abortion. Her eyes widened and it file fell from her hands as she stared at it in shock.
